it sounds like with the uneven footing you're limited in what you can do. please don't ride out with the loose horses! they can get to playing and cause your horse to buck or run. you can get hurt much easier if you're in the middle of loose horses.
riding english does require better balance since you have a more shallow seat in the saddle. you hold the same basic position though just a shorter stirrup. i had to ride out on the road when i first got sing due to bad footing in the pasture. not a good idea either, though i was on country roads. is there anyway you can get fill dirt in to cover the holes? that 's what you need, if only in a spot big enough for a round pen.
