Hello! Welcome!
I like your story. We had a Standardbred boarded with us for over a year. For all he had been thru being raced and legs injured etc. he had the best personality ever! Any time we had to help him like when he slipped on ice and couldn't get back up, he let us push and pull him, shove ashes and straw under him for traction he never fought us or kicked at us when we were handling his legs. Finally after 4 hours of working with him thru blizzard conditions and having the vet come out and help us, he struggled to his feet and walked off stiffly to be with his buddies. We also doubled blanketed him and got a warm mash into him. He impressed me with his trust in letting us help him and with his patience. I learned a new respect for Standardbreds. I hope your new horse has the same awesome personality!
