"You're more precious than a flower in the snow. You're more precious than 3 rainbows in a row. You're more precious that a diamond set in gold. You're my Mocha and I love you so, my lips mouthed. If only I hadn't needed the tracheotomy, I could have sung it to her. I couldn't make a sound. Her heart stopped. My caregiver lifted my arms from her body. I thought "God only gives you a love like Mocha's once".
Nevertheless the next day I searched for another Mocha online. She wasn't there.
At the same time, Leo was waiting. He and his brother were stray puppies, and Friends of Homeless Animals (Merrifield, VA) took them in. Leo loved the volunteers, but their time was limited. He was being walked when I pulled into the parking lot. Next thing I knew, Leo's leash was hooked to my chair, and he was walking as if he had done it his entire life. I think he has been here almost 2 years said one volunteer. "He's been waiting for you" my care giver said. Leo looked over his sholder at me every few steps, and hung his head when the walk was over. I visited some other dogs, but none compared to Leo. I went past a cacophony of barking dogs, but when I reached Leo's run, he sat down in silence and wagged at me. He didn't need a perfect owner. He just needed me.
