Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you! I have been really busy.
I had a bucking episode with Paragon yesterday. I was trying out a new saddle and when I asked him to trot, and in response, he started bucking! I got his head up and dismounted and called my grandpa who is basically my trainer. He said to put his old saddle on and try again to see if he does the same thing. I walked him over to the hitching post and switched saddles. Then I mounted and gave him the cue to walk. He immediatly started bucking, even worse that the first time! So it definetly wasn't the saddle hurting him. I called my grandpa back and he said he would come over and ride him that evening. When he got here, he saddled him up and rode him around. He rode holding the reins about half way up his neck with some contact, not pulling, but just contact. He explained that in order to buck, a horse has to get his head down. If you don't let him get his head down, he can't buck! Paragon tried to buck a few times, unsucessfully. Grandpa got him to go around his "scary" corner, but not without Paragon throwing a big tempertantrum and trying to buck. Then I got on and copied Grandpa. It went well. Grandpa said that Paragon is the kind of horse that needs a firm and knowledgeable hand that won't let him get away with things.
Indy is growing fast and getting big. He is such a sweet boy! He really has the temperament of his mother, Ima Darling. Hope you have a good week! Voted:)
