Hi Bub, voted all ready today. Thank you for the compliment on my mare. As for keeping the head level when riding. A lot of leg to drive them into the bit and keep some easy and steady pressure on the bit and drive them, if you get a couple of steps the way you want their headset, try lighting up on the reins and give them a little slack, if the head comes up, put the pressure on the reins again, you don't want to pull back, you want to lift up, believe it or not, so that they learn when you lift your hand and reins the head comes down. Also when I use the work whoa, it means a complete stop, not to just drop down a transition. Hope this helps. It takes months of training to get them to be level and on the verticle.
