The Gypsy Vanner, Gypsy Horse, Gypsy Cob, Irish Cob, Tinker Travelers Horse and various other names are all used to describe this amazing horse. However, the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society established the first registry to give the horses a name and an organization to track the closely guarded, original bloodlines, of the Romany Gypsy breeders. The name of the Registry was carefully selected not only to identify the people that created this magical breed, but to acknowledge the horse’s history as well. The Gypsy Vanner Horse must possess a certain look and meet a clear conformation standard, ensuring that we may reproduce the same quality horse that the first Romany Gypsy breeders dreamed of.
For hundreds of years the nomadic people known as gypsies have traveled the roads of Europe and the United Kingdom in beautiful decorated living wagons. To maintain this wandering way of life, they created an extraordinary breed of horse. It had to have enough endurance and strength to pull the heavy family wagon, the ability to subsist on whatever grazing could be found along the side of the road and an extremely calm, willing temperament. The result , after hundreds of years of selective breeding , is a beautiful, powerful and supremely gentle Gypsy Vanner Horse.

We had snow yesterday! It snowed almost all morning but melted as soon as it hit the ground.Sierra got a pretty bad cut on her hind leg and it swelled up quite a bit. I didnt do very much with the horses yesterday because it was a very cold and blustery day. Poor Dakota is without a shed( he has been without one ever since his old one got wrecked by the toronado).Thankfully my dad ordered him a new shed and it should be delivered by next week sometime. Dakota is a tough little guy but I know he will enjoy having a shed again.

Question of the day: Have you ever had to go to the hospital or get stitches for a horse related injury?

This is the second time I have had to get stitches for an injury caused by a horse. The first time was when Dakota bucked me off on the driveway and a really sharp rock made a deep gash on my nose.

Have a horsy day and once again thank you all so much for all the votes and support!
