Now that I have a horse that I am not afraid of, Terri has me working on unlearning all the bad habits I developed while riding Smarty. It's amazing how horrible my balance is because my muscles are so stiff. I went from having a good seat to sitting off-center and balancing on the reins. I sit wayyy behind the horses' motion, as I sat way back while riding Smarty to anticipate whatever stunt he decided to pull that day. The thing that drives me nuts is I cannot canter anymore! I want to but my balance (and confidence) is shot. It's a terrbile feeling because I used to love to canter. In my mind I still do, but my body goes right into self-preservation mode and I can't balance at all. Terri has me practicing all these crazy stretches to improve my balance at a walk and trot, and she says she will let me know when I am ready to canter. I am grateful to have a trainer who understands my feelings (after all, she has had to come back from an even worse accident when her horse fell on her and she shattered her femur), but it the thought of how much work it is going to take me to get back to where I was is killing me. Any advice??
