Cowboy & I have been horsen around the past 2 days.
Yesterday we rinsed Fancy & Trigger, hand grazed them while they dried then saddled up. We went into the woods. Fancy was hard wired to run. I had a time keeping her from running full speed. She would not listen to the snaffle bit. I thought if I came back a different trail she would slow down. Nope, she went up hill bucking all the way. I could tell by her half-hearted bucks, she was not trying to get rid of me, but she wanted me to let her run. I still said no. I took her home, traded that bit for her curb and went in the corral for a lesson. I stayed on her and I let her run her sillies out, right & left, back and forth. When she wanted to stop, I said not yet. While Cowboy & Trigger rode up and down the street and where ever they chose, Fancy had about 20 -30 minutes of class. After she got her sillies out, we worked on backing, forward, left & right movements. When we came out she was a willing and well behaved creature, which I appreciated very much.
Today we rinsed Fancy & Trigger early, waited on them to dry and saddled up. We rode across town to my mom’s house and back. One lady asked us to come into her yard so her 6 grandchildren could see the horses from the front porch. They were ages 2 to maybe 7 years old. There was a pile of decomposing grass in front of one house and we walked between it and the curb. Fancy stopped and pooped on top of it. I felt really embarrassed. I think she thought it was a manure pile. It did look like a manure pile and it smelled funny too. Some folks thought Trigger was a baby and Fancy was old because of their size differences. Both days, we got many comments on how calm Fancy and Trigger were in traffic. One man invited them to a yard of lush greenery. One family took pictures with them.
Fancy and I have learned a new talent. We can now, open the corral gate while I am in the saddle!
This lady said she had been riding for years. Cowboy asked her if she wanted to ride. She was hesitant at first. She put the wrong foot in the stirrups to mount and she did not appear to know how to ride, so Cowboy lead Trigger while she sat on him.
Trigger is living up to his motto! Cowboy had a time getting Trigger to back up, just like when we first got Trigger. I told Cowboy to dismount and try it from the ground and then try backing in the saddle. After we untacked & rinsed them we worked on backing Trigger from the ground.
After our 2 days of sunshiny, horsey, goodness, my wrist & shoulders are aching. Guess I will wait on cart training.
Guess what? Today while we got cleaned up, there was a teeny rain shower. LOL “)
FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, All I Need to Know in Life I Learned From My Horse: A swift kick in the butt will get anyone's attention.
LITTLE COWBOY CLASS/Phrase of the day: SUITS ANYONE: except us, we hate him!
Have a beautiful night ✞
Love from Fancy & Frances ♥
