Hey guys! 90s and it hit 100 and 101 for the first time this summer. So hot! :P
Tuesday evening I did some groundwork (clinton Anderson exercises) with Sweet Pea. Did pretty well. Then I saddled her up and did some work in the meadow with the snaffle. She's fine with the snaffle, at the walk and trot and just in the meadow. But I am hoping that Clinton Anderson exercises helps her with that, too. I trotted for 20 mins straight, (snaffle/western) with lots of turns. She did okay. Then, tried a canter. Disaster. Just raced around with her nose in the air.
I gave up and used the curb, and worked outside the meadow. This time I tried something different. When she went too fast, instead of just pulling straight back and trying too get her head tucked, I simply did a One-Rein Stop (to see what I'm talking about, Google it or search it on YouTube). Then SHE had to assume responsibility for keeping the correct speed. That worked. After about 10 mins of that, I went on a short trail ride.
My sister rode Sweet Pea, and I rode Flicka. We trotted one stretch. Good cooldown for my awesome horse!

☆ Wednesday, I did groundwork with Sweet Pea again. She was a bit better this time. I really got after her and demanded instant and exact obedience.
Then, I swallowed my apprehension and saddled her up with the western and snaffle. We trotted and walked for about 15 mins, then I felt that she was ready to canter. This time she was perfect!! What a wonderful feeling!! Really makes me feel happy. :D
Then we went back the field lane a bit. I actually cantered her, and she didn't run away with me! I can only remember one or two other times when I was able to do that. What a good ride we had!!

♥ Today, Lilly came. We used the English saddle. She cantered a bit, trotted w/o stirrups, and jumped!! First couple times was just two poles a distance apart, so Sweet Pea had to just step bigger, not really a jump, but then the second time was a real x!! Her position was just about perfect! She pushed her hands front pretty nice. She doesn't rely on her hands to keep her balance, which makes my job so much easier!

Hope you have a great weekend!! I'll have to work until 5 o'clock, Fri and Sat. Then Friday evening me and a friend are going on a ride for a couple hours until dusk. Can't wait!!
