I'm sharing this with everyone I can...the only thing you can be certain of, is uncertainty itself.

SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Horses have been found to be expensive and addictive, and have further been shown to impair the use of common sense in humans!

I found this to be true one week ago today. I was washing my gelding about 9pm when biting insects attacked us. The horse over-reacted by pulling back and realizing he's tied to a post, he freaked out big time! He snapped a wooden post, set 2 ft down in concrete, off at ground level, hitting me in my leg, knocking me down, and continually pulling the fence over-top of me! He wanted to run but I yelled "whoa, whoa, whoa!" He stopped, I detached the "safety" strap that was supposed to release, and put him in the stall.
Next day I went to the doctor because of the severe swelling and the fact I couldn't bend my knee but about 10%. Nothing broken (yay) but MRI revealed a torn MCL (medial collateral ligament) and damage to the patella! I haven't yet seen my Ortho doc (appt. on Tuesday).
The horse knew he hurt me because he wouldn't look at me for two days. I'd love on him but he kept to himself. My husband asked the horse if he was sorry he hurt momma and he shook his head yes. I talked to him and again, he looked away. Saddened my heart.
Be careful everyone! Freak accidents DO happen!!
