Happy Anniversary, Eddie! Today we have had Eddie for one whole year! Wow! He and Pippin are such good buddies.
I'm sorry about last night. Like many people, antibiotics can make me feel lousy and I'm on them for 3 weeks. Really bad timing for Eddie's run for hotm! Plus, yet another stomach bug has been going around. It didn't get me as badly as my friend. She was throwing up all last night! Ugh!
Anyway, on a happier note, Eddie's knees are already showing improvement. He's getting bute for 5 days and he really hates it. But he's pretty good about taking the bad with the good and he's not too much trouble to dose.
On an even happier note, Pippin's eyes look fine now! I'm pretty sure he had bacterial conjuctivitis (pink eye) which is very contagious. Why do I think that? Well, 2 of our goats got it yesterday and they are also responding to the same medicine. Phew!
Many descriptions of Percherons state that they are easy keepers. I'm not entirely sure what they mean. Generally the term refers to horses that require very little food for their size.
Eddie eats a lot! He's twice the size of an average horse and he eats half a bale of hay a day. When I think about it though, that's really not a lot for his size.
Percherons also have very few health problems though I would have to say that Eddie has more than had his share of colic throughout his life! Fortunately, since we've had him he's only had a few minor issues with it. And since we've changed his diet from grain hay to pure grass hay, no problems at all!
Since today's Eddie's 1st anniversary living with us, I'm going to highlight our very first video of him. His arrival and first meeting with Pippin.
As always, I can't thank you enough for your support and for your get well wishes. Leaving you a vote!
PS You asked how Eddie got the injuries? He fell down while trotting with the cart.
