Yesterday I went out to ride. Lucys legs were covered in snow and i didn't think much of it. I tossed a saddle on her and rode around she did great, though she was a little lazy transitioning into the jog trot. Then i asked for the canter and it just didn't feel right. Immediately i jumped of and now that the snow had melted off I could see that three of her legs were incredibly swollen. Her front right and hind left were both warm. I called her owner who came over within five minuets. I was alone at the barn before that. Together we decided that Lucy must have strained something in the legs that were warm and the best thing for the swelling was standing in the snow so we out her back out. I can do light work with her until she feels better so we will be doing lots of halter work and bareback until she feels better. Im so glad she is ok and wasn't seriously injured.
