Yum, yum and a tasty virtual carrot it was.
Hi - Oh what an exciting time you are in for !!! Way to go Angel. Shybang's mom is a sorrel/white overo and her dad is a black/white tobiano who sires a high percentage of black based colors and 100% tobiano since he is homozygous for tobiano. Shybang is bay/white with black points - her bay is sort of a mahogany bay probably due to her mom's red color. Really pretty though. Your mare looks like a light bay to me. Especially with the black sections of her mane and her black tail. Does she have any black spots or marks on her legs below the knee? I really think she is bay. If she is, she should have a big chance of having a black based foal. (black, or bay or even grulla but more of a chance to produce black or bay.) Go to and take a look at Dominant Jeans. That is Shybang's dad and check out his son (Shybang's half brother) Check My Jeans. He is an awesome grulla stallion. I wish he wasn't Shybang's brother or she would be having a baby whether I can afford it or not. I think he is awesome!! Anyway, I was so excited when Jazz was pregnant with Shybang. I used to go out to the field at night and put my hands on her stomach so I could see if I could feel Shybang move. I would jostle her tummy to try to make the foal move and the first time it happened I was in awe. I had Jazz stitched to prevent possibility of infection but then the closer it got to foaling time the more I worried about it. I even had nightmares about her starting to go into labor with the stitches so I had them removed about a week before the foaling date. Jazz was due at 11 months exactly on March 2,2002 which was a Saturday so I took that week off work. I worried that she would go an extra 2 weeks because alot of first time mothers do go longer but don't you know that Jazz had Shybang at about 6 am on that Saturday March 2nd. I had the whole week to play with her. I missed the birth by about 30 minutes. I woke up at six and wanted to go out but I had checked Jazz before I went to bed and the baby had not turned yet so I said forget it. Then, I couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and took the binoculars to check the small pasture and lo and behold there was a flash of white moving next to Jazz. I don't even remember putting on clothes I got out there so fast. It was one of the most exciting times I can ever remember. You are in for a treat. If you have any questions that I can answer just ask away. I got a book called Blessed Are the Broodmares and it told all the horrible things to look for. If you read it, you can't let it scare you because chances are, none of it will happen but it is good to know in case you need to do something before the vet arrives if you do have a problem. I read the birthing part about 5 times before Shybang's birthday to be sure to know - then look at what happened...Jazz did it all on her own. But it is a very informative book. Yikes !! Sorry this is too long. Good luck & let me know all about it. ttyl Shyb
