Story # 6 The Horse With Wings Chapter 1
My father owned a Sale Barn. Many horses ran throught the sales on every Saturday night. It wasn't until' I was six though, that the Saughter Horse Buyer came to town. Luckily for the first few years he was there, every horse that came through the sale was bought. Until, a horse named Misty came through. She had a beautiful white coat. But to the horse people they knew it as gray. So, anyway. I thought Misty was beautiful. She reminded me of the horse that wa the mascout of Tri-Star Films. The white horse would gallop up to the screen then, it would sprout wings and fly. I wanted her so bad. But, she had to run through the sale. No one was biding as the price lowered and lowered I saw two men who were sitting in the bleachers glance at each other. Then one of the men raised a number. 145. My heart suddenly fell. Slaughter. I ran to my dad and begged him to save Misty. He looked at her and looked at me. And said "We got to make money some how, kid." And then he turned away. "No!" I heard a familar voice behind me. "What's up, Sarah?" I recognized it as Kevin's voice. He worked at the sale barn my dad owned. "It's Misty, the Slaugther House is about to buy her!" I said. "Well, maybe she'll sprout wings and fly." He said. No one cared. I was angry and sad all at the same time. I hated my father, and I hated Kevin for making fun of my want to save Misty. The two men from the Slaughter House told my dad that they would pick Misty up in one week. I had to do something. That night I slept. I dreamt of Misty. I was on her back and she was galloping. Up ahead the green plains dropped off to a deep trench. When the edge was near Misty suddenly had two wings. We began to soar through the sky. How could the dream get better? Then, lightning flashed and thunder boomed. Misty vanished into thin air! I began to fall into the dark trench as the sky blackned. I fell for a few seconds then I landed in the sale barn. I looked around. Misty was in the arena. Her ears were back and the two men ordered three guys including my dad and Kevin to tye a rope around Misty. Then I woke up. I was sweaty. A tear rolled down my cheek. Then a wave hit me. I realized it wasn't too late so save Misty. I slipped on my boots and tipetoed out to the barn. I heard a few horses nicker. I walked to Misty's stall and lead her out. My plan stopped there. Then I thought about Mr. Barnag's old barns. He had like three of them! And he didn't use them anymore. I could sneak Misty in and take care of her. One of Mr. Barnag's barns was very close to the edge of our house too. I smiled at my cleverness. This would work out perfectly. I lead Misty to the far corner of our land, the closest barn was about fifty feet away. No one would know about it! Mr. Barnag never went to the barns, and would not be able to see Misty from there, and it was plenty far away from our house too. And every morning and night I could sneak Misty food. This would work out perfectly. I brought Misty food the first night.
