Chapter 2 of The Horse With Wings Story # 6
THE NEXT MORNING I HEARD Dad talking on the phone with the Slaughter House. From what I heard they were not mad at all. They said that people didn't buy horse meat from them much anyway. And that the chickens and cows were getting plenty of money. 12 dollars a pound! Next I heard my dad call MIsty's previous owners. They were a little sad since Misty was a good horse, but happy that she was not wasted to slaughter. Both people he called said they would not sue only just ask for the money they paid back. This made me very happy, so if I got caught I wouldn't be in too much trouble. The day slipped away until' it was night time and I was getting up to give Misty her food. I went into the kitchen and grabbed and apple from the basket on the contertop, two sugar cubes from Dad's 'making coffee area', and three carrots. I put them into a Ziploc bag and headed to our barn. There I grabbed three flakes of hay and four cups of feed, so it would last her a whole day and the rest of that night. When I woke up the next day. I saw my father, mother, Kevin, and two other men inspecting Misty's old pen. "How did she get out?" My Mom asked. Kevin leaned over to me. "She grew wings and few away." I smiled.
