Hello!!! WOW sounds like you are doing GREAT with Dixie!!!!! Im sure its good to be able to have her at your house so you can work with her more!!! Good for you. And I bet Dixie likes it to!! She gets to see you more!!! Yeah iv had some of the same experiences!!! Sapphire has done the same biting thing that Dixie did!! Especially to the people that are flat out scared of horses. usually the people that I know are scared of horses. I wont even take them into her pen. Id just rather not have that problem. And besides. I want to give them a good impression of horses! COS ok do you really want to know my thoughts on your waving the branch game? I mean really it sounds good. And its ALWAYS good to de-sensitize you horse to EVERYTHING you can think of. But heres what I just thought. Ok you DON’T want your horse to be scared of big weird sounding. Bushy branches right??? Well you said the when Dixie ran away (calmly) you would stop and praise her. Well I think when she runs away (even calmly) your teaching her to run away from her fears. Cauz when she ran away you stopped right? So that’s what the horse is gonna think. When you do something like that, when the horse runs away you stop. So I think what would be better. (please don’t take this wrong, not that I know ANY more and ANYTHING, but just a little bit from past experiences with other horses. So don’t take this wrong at all please) but do like what Clinton Anderson did with the bull whip and the handy stick. Start a little farther away and just wave the branch, don’t start froshisly just kinda shake it. If Dixie starts to move away keep shaking it. Then when Dixie will stop and stand there quietly while you shake the branch THEN stop and praise her TONS. I don’t know if Clinton Anderson said this at the clinic you went to, but he said “when you are willing to bet a million dollars that Dixie wont move then you can stop. Either your betting your last million Dollars, or keep waving whatever you’ve got until Dixie stands still for around 10 seconds. (WITHOUT moving) or until she shows signs of relaxing. (cocking, the back feet, a deep breath/sigh, lowering her head, closing her eyes. Those are all signs of relaxing. And do the same thing waving the handy stick. or whacking the ground with the handy stick, do it until she stops. Then maybe get a little
