So, how did the ride on Bunny go? Is it still cold there? My sister and a friend and I went hiking in the mountains last Sunday. We took all of our dogs except one and Pippin pulled his little cart. It's the first time he's been on such steep terrain and he did really well. We loaded some food and a drink onto the cart and two of the dogs, including Tiny (my little 15 year old rat terrier) who currently has a broken foot. She had a broken foot last December and the vet suspected that someone had stepped on it. Well, it looks just like it did then so I think someone stepped on her again but I don't know who. I'm giving her metacam and that has helped a lot with the swelling and she's hardly limping anymore. And then the other day I discovered that she had the worst ear mite infection I've ever seen. Lots of thick black goo. I spent and hour and a half cleaning her ears and then gave her ear mite medication. The next day I noticed she was completely deaf which was very worrying but today she seems to have a little of her hearing back. Thank goodness. Anyway, back to Pippin, he was amazing. It was hard work going uphill with the weight but downhill with the cart pushing him he handled it like a professional. He collected himself properly and powered himself from the rear to keep his footing and not be sent sliding down. I guess it must just come naturally to some horses. I'm so proud of him. We stopped for a picnic and I unharnessed him so he could catch his breath and dry off a little. Of course, he bugged us and tried to steal our cookies and soda, and my hat, and the dog leash, etc. And he loves sitting in peoples laps but I already had Tiny in mine so there wasn't room. I've never heard of other horses trying to sit in one's lap. It's a little strange and he probably weighs about 180 pounds. Well, anyway we had a good time and once we got back to the base of the mountain where it wasn't so steep he cantered all the way. That was a lot of fun. The other two were on bikes, in case you were wondering how that worked. They rode their bikes to the base and then we hiked from there. Well, I think I've written a book.
