hi buddy
my peekster drove like a cadillac today. did a little western pleasure type trot when we were longlining outside turns, kinda a figure eight pattern around me. much more smooth in her transitions from walk/trot. i found a great exercise that will help me lengthen smooch, too. of all places in last months horse illustrated! i set up 4 cones in a diamond shape to work around at a 20M circle. i tried to get an even stride in each quadrant of the circle, then extend him and make each quad less strides. it's real easy to tell then (i can't see myself and ride alone) if i'm getting him lengthened. it's kind of addictive though because each time around i'm like "no! that one was 11 and this one was to get them even". had some good moments with it. buttercup shocked me because she was able to do a canter circle nicely! she's really stiff and flat and i have to hold her together on the circle. i almost felt like i was on a different horse with her. i only cantered her twice around each way since she did so well with it. so i was one hour in the saddle today. keep trying to meet these fitness goals so i can keep up if i do the horse show! i managed 4 rides on smooch this week, which is my goal until the show. oh, i should say we've had 2 days of rain and 2 more expected so my outside arena is too wet to jump. i'm in my 80 x 100 ft covered so i have to come up with exercises within that confinement. that's why i liked the circle one. :)
