be careful with the feed changes! horse's can colic and die from sudden changes and overfeeding concentrates like sweet feed or pellets. are his teeth in good condition? they need to be floated at least once a year. he may have trouble chewing if not. all horse's move better one way than the other. he may be stiffer to the one side. you should be sure you work both ways and warm up by walking and suppling first. i'd talk to your vet about the feeding problem. there's certain calcium ratios that have to be right with alfalfa. don't start throwing feed at him to try to put his weight back on fast! could make him sick.
