Good luck with those flying lead changes. How's it going? I know that one method for teaching them is to do a figure eight and place a ground pole at the intersection. At the pole transition to a trot for a couple of a paces and then pick up the canter again on the other lead. Eventually he'll learn to change leads at the pole and you'll be able to do fewer paces trotting until you just make a flying change. I hope that this helps.

I rode Prince again yesterday morning and we, with my sister on Eddie, went on a nice ride through the fields. It was nice to just ride and relax and not think about any training. In fact, Eddie was so relaxed that he fell asleep at the trot. His eyes were shut and his head was drooping so low!

Last week on Friday, (yep, I got 2 rides last week), I was going to jump Prince again. I pulled out that tempting alfalfa plant and fed it to him and Eddie after their rides. Then I was all set and cantered a little. Melian was loose for the first time and I wanted to see how she would react to the horses. I've brought her with me each time but always had her tied in the field and just watching us. Well, she was very good. She listened to everything that I told her while I was mounted and even came when I called. Then I had her follow while I cantered.

She did bark at Prince once while he was cantering and he bucked. That caused the stitching in the girth to come undone so I was basically riding with a loose saddle and no girth. I didn't realize, I just thought it felt a little loose but then my sister told me. I was just about to jump too. So, it's a good thing that I didn't otherwise the saddle would have slid off. I did canter a bit but I guess I must have been balanced enough for it to stay in position. Ah, the excitement for the day.

Now I need to fix the girth so that I can jump again. How are things? I hope you had a great weekend. Ours was long here for labour day. Did you get a chance to see Pippin in action yet? Here's another vote for you.
