Hey! Sorry it took so long for me to get back with you! I have been so busy with school, soccer and horses I haven't even been on horsechannel! Our show on Saturday went great! I almost was going to sign up for the walk trot class instead of walk, trot canter just because once we start cantering she never wants to stop! I decided that we would just for practice. I also read in a 4-H book that in shows unless I'm doing trail or something western they will never ask you to go from a canter to a walk. I thought, okay well we can handle it. We signed up for showmanship, pleasure and equitation. I thought we might have a chance of getting into the ribbons in showmanship but I was pretty sure we wouldn't do well in the other classes. We did very well in showmanship but did not place. There were over thirty horses in that class! Next was pleasure. No matter how hard she tries, Crystal is just not a good pleasure horse. We didn't place but still I was proud of her. After pleasure was equitation. All 25 of us in the class (I was the youngest) were cantering around the ring. Then I heard the announcer say, "stop your horses!" I thought "o crap" Crystal will never stop! She was the last one but she did so much better than I thought she would! For some reason while we were showing she kept taking the wrong lead! I would bring her back down to a trot and then ask for the canter again. This time she just did a flying lead change without me asking her to! I didn't even know she knew how to do that! I was so proud of her! And she did it right when the judge was looking at us! We placed sixth! When they called me I seriously thought they read it wrong! I was shocked! It was also fun because Crystals owners couldn't come so it was kinda like I owned Crystal for the day.

I have also been working with Exel. Yesterday I was lunging him with a saddle for the first time and he had just had his feet trimmed. Aparently he didn't stand well for the farrier and the farrier cut them too short. He was trying to tell me that they were hurting him so he went into this crazy bucking frenzy in the middle of lunging. I didn't want to force him to keep going but I didn't want to teach him that when he starts bucking he gets to be done. I made him go the other way and after he sucessfully went around a few more times I let him stop. We tried to see if he would take the bit for the first time in two years. He took it right away. Getting it in was not a problem because he loves to chew on things. I just walked him and backed him and did some showmanship stuff with a bit in. He wasn't to sure about it. He would stop and open his mouth and stick his tongue out trying to figure this new thing out. He was also very nippy but he is slowly getting better. He's really funny. Well I hope I haven't bored you with my long blog!
