Four years later, tailor and his rider would distinguish themselves and the USA, by winning the first american gold medal in eventing in 25 years and putting up the best score ever in olympic history in dressage! this in spite of the fact that his rider nearly went off course in the stadium. tailor was named USEA's horse of the year in 2000, at age 15, for this performance at the olympic games.
the horse, tailor, is better known as champion "custom made" and his rider is david o'connor, who now serves as our olympic equestrian coach.
if you'd like to watch a video clip of the highlights of the top 5 riders, including when david o'connor has a "senior moment" and loses his way on course, here is a video link to youtube:

it also shows american rider, mark todd, in his final olympic ride because he retires after. he's one of my faves! you see his frustratiion in getting a time penalty because he appears to have thought he was within the time and didn't try to push on faster! this was a great olympics for horses. i remember coming out of my chair at home when o'connor almost went off course. the crowd was shouting, "right" to help him. custom made went on 2 years later, at age 17, to win the fairhill international. o'connor had announced it would be his final competition. fans cheered their beloved equine hero at every jump! well done, to a great pair of seniors!! :)
