(part 2)
Regal is wonderful. I am pleased with the horse he is becoming. He’s more confident and sure of himself and more willing to do what I ask. The barn owner (usually referred to as Aaron) bought a new bridle a few weeks back and said he used it for them to take all 3 horses out with the kids. He told me this at church, so I was curious to go out and see what kind of bit it was. It turned out to be a Tom Thumb with copper rollers. I knew the kids had been riding him in it, so I wasn’t happy about it. I just told him the bit was much too severe for the kids to be pulling him around in; the snaffle is fine for them if he wants to use it. After getting around the fact that Regal didn’t want it in his mouth after his earlier experience, he really did great in it. He now stops by shifting my seat pressure back which is nice! He will even stop dead at a lope. Now Regal isn’t a fan of stopping so that is impressive to me! He’s carrying himself better at a lope and starting to getting much more collected throughout when I ride him. He’s starting to flex at the poll which is something I thought he’d never be able to do, but with a little bit of work he can do it easily and that makes momma happy. I feel so in control of him; don’t have the slightest tinge of fear when I ride him. Yesterday we decided to face his gate fears. (i.e. I was too lazy to get off and open it myself, can you blame me?) He eventually got close enough for me to open it. Spooked when I got it open and swung it around but walked through calmly. We couldn’t get it closed after our hour-long trail ride, so I got off of him and opened and closed it so many times he just sat and stared instead of thinking some freaky animal was after him. So we are working on all sorts of stuff, progress is slow, but it’s steady. There are a few newer photos you can look at if you’d like. I’ll put more up when I get more in the next week I hope.

SO Tell me all about your horsey happenings! And if it’s frosted or snowed yet! ;) It hasn’t here, but it’s just a matter of days!
