Hi all, have been working lots and trying to get ready for winter.I hauled hay Wed. out to the barn where Daisy, Penny, Rosie and Splash are. I'm so pleased with Splash's progress. We rescued him Oct. 09. He was skin and bone. His backbone stuck up 4" over his ribcage, you could put 2 fingers down between his ribs and he had worms and lice. The "owner" said he was a 2yo. Soon as I saw him I knew he was at least a 5yo. (13.2hh) pony STALLION. (vet and farrier say prob. 8yo) The guy said we could have him if we could get a halter on him. I had a halter on him in about 10 sec. He said "I had 5 grown men try to hold that @#^%$ and halter him and couldn't do it". I said "You just have to be smarter than the pony" hahaha.(actually a starving pony will put his head in anything to get a bite of grain) We walked him to the trailer and lured him in with a little more grain, took about 5 min. Must have been MAGIC grain. We had him gelded in Mar. The vet gave me a discount cause I rescure him. At first he didn't want anyone but me around him, but now he is taking up with Sus. He is still skiddish around men but is doing better all the time. He takes wormer and shots great, we've even used clippers on him. He's never offered to kick or bite anyone. He would get a little excited at feeding time and paw out. I guess when you've been starved though food IS something to get excited about. He is getting better with the farrier too. My farrier hadn't seen him for 2.5 mo. after trimming him 2 times and Splash had shed out and my farrier didn't recognize him. He's really pretty now. I have hopes that we'll be able to ride him and he would make a great cart pony. Sorry this is so long, I get excited about my little recue pony. lotsa hugs D&J
