How are you doing? I was gone all of last week at the coast. It was so much fun to get away for a bit and enjoy the pleasures of eating, sleeping, eating, hiking, eating, and... eating! It rained the entire time but we were not to be put off. We went down and walking in the pouring rain and gale winds and came back cold and soaked each time. The dogs weren't too thrilled but as soon as their paws hit the sand they forgot about the foul weather and ran around exuding a joy that only a dog can show.

It did clear up a bit one day and we went on a 4 hour (12 miles or so) hike along the coast. It was beautiful! Melian and Kermit (saluki and yorkie) came with us. Kermit was beat by the time we got home. Melian didn't realize that she was tired and on the last hour stretch which happened to be down on the beach she ran circles around us and back and forth at top speed without a break. Made me tired just watching her!

All in all it was so much fun. When we left home we had spring weather. Now that we're back it's winter and snowy again. Pippin doesn't seem to care. But I think he missed me! I know that I missed him and wish I could have brought him but I don't have a trailer. When I got home the first thing I did was go out and call him. He whinnied and came running over. And then he tried to bite me but it was because he loves me and hasn't been able to bite me all week!

Or perhaps it was because he knew I had spent some time with other horses. We went on an hour and a half trail ride to the beach. The rain had stopped and it was warmish and sunnyish. My first reaction on mounting was that the horse felt so tiny and his head was way too close to me. They were arabians and after riding Eddie and Prince for the last 4 years they seemed too small and fragile. I guess I've forgotten how small the average horse is!

Anyway, we had a great ride and even got to canter in the surf! My dream come true. I've always wanted to do that! The last 20 minutes of the ride we were assaulted by a huge hailstorm. The horses kept trying to turn their butts to it and we were very cold and wet. But, it was worth it and nothing that a hot shower couldn't take care of. Nevertheless it's great to be back. How is it there? Leaving a vote for you.
