How are you doing? And how is Grace's leg? Did you have a nice Mothers' Day? It was quite nice here. Sunny and warm though we're still being threatened with freezing nights. We're keeping our fingers crossed and so far it's worked. I want to plant the garden!

Pippin is still shedding like crazy and I want to clip him soon. I don't know if you remember but he's afraid of needles. Every time I have to give him his shots he goes so ballistic that the needle often breaks and last time he even broke the syringe.

So, this time I thought I'd try a bit of desensitizing every night for a week or so. So, the first night I took out the needle while he was munching his pellets. He barely glanced up. So, I pretended to get his neck ready. No reaction. So, I shoved the needle in front of his nose and he sniffed it with mild interest and back went his head into the bucket. munch munch...

?? "What is this?" I thought. Well, it's worth a try so I went and got the first shot, rubbed his neck, and poke, it was done. He looked a bit miffed. Okay, so I figured I'd give the 2nd one a try. Rub the other side of neck, poke and that one was done too! I couldn't believe it! Barely a reaction! I hadn't even started the desensitizing.

I can't figure it out. For 6 years he's been deathly afraid of exactly this! The last shot I gave him was banamine for his colic episode a couple of months ago. My sister and I are wondering if he felt so much better after that shot that it cured his fear! Who knows?

He did give me grief the next day when I was deshedding him though. I think he thought I was going to shoot him again. I guess twice was the limit. At least for this year.

I do have a funny story to share. hehe Sorry, I can't help but chuckle. A few days ago a friend and I were driving Pippin and a part of the harness broke. We were cantering and suddenly the cart came loose and up into the air went the shafts and our feet! hehe haha We were both lying on our backs in the cart with our feet waving in the air. We weren't hurt and I was still holding the reins so that Pippin wouldn't panic and bolt. (Actually, Pippin was standing nervously right on top of me but as soon as I told him, "Calm!" he did!)

In the other hand I had a camera since I was taking photos at the time but I sure wish I had been filming. I almost did but changed my mind. Can you imagine how great that footage would have been? What a sight that must have been! I hope no one was looking!

I hope you're all doing fine and enjoying some nice spring weather. Here's a vote for you.

P.S. Thanks for Pippin's birthday wishes!
