congratulations on your colt!
i've had a difficult and busy few days. the heat is 100 and i was outside doing horse camp and barn chores so you can imagine how hard that is! then, i haven't had time to blog everyone but some of you know via email that smooch came up with a swollen area on his right chest. i believe it to be pigeon fever and it's probably what hershey had on his belly area, we'll know for sure next week when the culture results come back. i thought it was going away but yesterday it was hard and he was walking with short stiff steps so i took him to the vet for it to be aspirated. now it's draining and he's really mad because he has to be separated from the herd until the wound closes. i have to squirt saline inside the incision until it closes, spray bleach water around the arena and i'm keeping a fly sheet on him to , hopefully, keep the flies from biting and spreading the blood from the wound. he's racing around and bucking when the horses go out so he's feeling much better now that it's open. it was about the size of a walnut. i posted a pic of hershey's area, smooch's chest and a pic of smooch as a foal just for fun! :)
