Fajita and her bridle
Fajita and I have been having issues getting her bridle on. I have no trouble with my lesson horse, who puts his head down and opens his mouth. I do know that I have been spoiled. It just isn't me; experienced riders have helped out and agree that she needs work on that issue. It is getting better, at least I thought so until Thursday. Everyonen standing around said just to be patient and to not let go. So I did, and Fajita decided to swing her head to the side and knocked me against the wall and onto my butt. My trainer then did it. Good news is that the riding has been getting better each day! The first time I rode her I felt like I was gong to fly off. With a very good saddle now, and time on her, I am feeling very comfortable. I had my first fall 2 weeks ago, but it was no big deal. She had been throwing her head down, and I lost my concentration for a moment. I just held on to her mane until she was really low and rolled off her neck. It was like rolling off a couch- onto sawdust. We have worked on correcting her of that bad habit, and she got the message pretty quickly.
What is funny is riding her, 14 H and then 2 days later riding Carnie, who is 16.1 H. There is a very different sense of perspective. My grandkids have had a couple of lessons from our trainer of her, so they are learning how to adjust to her feel. My trainer says it is good to ride other horse, for the experience.
I am really glad the stable has 2 indoor arenas. The rain has begun here. I had to buy a new dressage saddle pad and was wild and crazy and bought a dark blue velvet one, as well as a blue plaid one. My grand-daughter wanted pink or purp;e, but I was pretty sure that her brother wouldn't want to ride in a show with those colours. I can hardly wait to get them. She will look great!
We are going to meet Fajita's rider/owner this afternoon and get her way of handling the bridle. Everyone enjoy the fall riding! My stable no longer has trails, as the city has closed in. They do have road trips, so we have that to look forward to.
