HI AGAIN
Hi and thank u for responding. Chicco must have been your best frien. My first mare, Flash, is buried under some cherry trees on my cousin's farm where she lived. My cousin & I used to go on overnight trail and field rides on the farm and we always camped out under the cherry trees which we hitched the horses to and climbed up as our look out post! That was the good life! I am not doing much with Petite Fleur now as my lab retriever was just diagnosed with lymphoma. He has been my best buddy for 13 and a half years. After that, it is my husband! He calls himself number 4 after the animals. Up until early November I was working with her just to give me my space and not try to get in front all the time, plus just normal exercise. She trailers perfectly, is a good gitl for the farrier and vet. She just had her teeth floated and she was really good about it. It is just me who needs to get back i training with HER. Cupid and I also take walks on the trails where I'm on the ground. We go past some of the things that she typically spooks at and it gives her time to process what they are and that they aren't going to attack her. I've heard from some folks that that doesn't do any good, but I don't believe them. I think the more she and I are together outside of her comfort zone, whether I'm riding her or not, is a good idea. And some days I don't feel her head is in the right place for me to be safely on her back and a walk is much better. It works for me and my horse. I learned how to appreciate walking from my two miniatures. I can take them anywhere and they do just fine, but it took a long time for them to get to that point. Here's a daily vote! chicco passed away last year in september. he had 2 courses of meds, to no avail.i suspected COPD or the like, but nothing we did helped.i retired him from riding about a year b4 he passed away. he's buried on our farm, where he lived his whole life, on one of his fav spots (he liked to stop at this one place and look out at the whole farm on our rides).he taught me most of what i know. Chicco was so handsome! I love the story about your close relationship with him. Would love to hear your advice on bareback riding as I used to bareback it with my mare FLASH, may she RIP. She was wonderful! Petite Fleur needs more ground work with me and I need more training since being out of the saddle regulary and bareback for 20 years! God I feel OLD! Chicco was so young to die! What happened? If you don't want to talk about it I understand. Trail
What a sweet face he had. I really appreciate all your advice with being out on the trail. Everything made perfect sense and I will keep all of it in mind. I spent months doing ground work and playing with Cupid before I ever got on her back. When she does spoke I always revert back to what she learned when I was on the ground and she really responds to my voice. It's an ongoing process. If you go on her webpage I added a new picture of her. I call it "The grass is greener on the other side." I took it today. She got caught eating the neighbors grass. Needless to say the fence is now fixed! Chicco got our vote.Come visit me, Apple Sauce, Ellie May & Cupid.
