Haaave a vote from my Fancy filly, this Monday night.
Well, the hay frame is holding up. There is little hay on the ground. I still have to give it a few days before I say Fancy won't demolish it. Fancy is still chasing kittens, but when she catches up with them she is not trying to stomp them anymore. I can't believe the kittens don't run from her anymore. She sniffs them and snorts at them.
I have not seen King this past weekend. My brother does spend time with him and he seems to be enjoying himself with his new King.
I can not believe it will be autumn this month! I only plan to ride more. Do you plan any different horsey related activities due to the change in seasons?

i rode sing and just walked around. too tired to do more. she needed a good grooming and some attention. i've been spraying them with the hose to cool them on the 100+ days, then they roll in the arena sand....come up looking like "ghost" horses! hehe. Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

Had a nice evening with the girls. I let them out of the corral for some excercise. Sadie ran and kicked and even played a game of keep away with me. She's such a funny character. I put a picture of the road runner on the bottom of Sadie's page from yesterday morning. He was in the corral eating with the the girls. They had alfalfa, and I guess he had bugs. There was another one in the backyard at the same time. And no, he's not a threat to the dogs. They would be to him, tho'. I'm glad they're hanging out here. They're keeping the back yard clear of creepy critters. There was one in the front yard, too. He was zooming around a row of quail. Hugs and a vote. After Austin and I got back Monday from picking up a bale of hay, I opened the gate so I could drive around back. I saw the road runner running from the back of the corral out into the desert behind our property. He must like horses, too. He likes to stay by the hay as if watching them. He's about a foot tall and has a spikey hairdo. He always has access to water. I keep the dogs' pool filled. Pidgeons and other birds enjoy the pool, too. Why he had to try the water trough is beyond me. Road runners eat snakes, lizards, scorpions, rodents and other birds as well. During the winter months, they live on whatever vegetation they can find. And they are fast. Coyotes use to come up the water tank, about 2 acres from my house, when it leaked for a drink of water. I guess road runners get their name from all the running they do. I've seen them run across the highway. The dogs are in their dog house with the ac on when it's enjoying the back yard. Don't know what he'll do when the weather cools down enough not to run the dog's ac. They'll be out of the doghouse then. But since they don't like to stay in the yard, he should be free to stay. Austin said the road runner was hanging out at the dog pool Sunday morning. I guess we're his new family, even tho' he runs like crazy when he sees us. Austin was trying to figure out how it got in the water trough. Since Sadie's tossed things in it before, he was thinking she may have done it. I don't think so. I think he somehow got up on the edge like he does the dog pool and tried to get a drink from a half empty trough and lost his balance. Only Sadie and the road runner know and neither are talking. today i'm featuring a race horse that i know, money in my wranglers, on my page. also, please go by and vote for the many friends who need lifting up right now!
i have a video up this week of my pony peekaboo. since i have 8 horses, i don't get to spend much time with each one. every now and then, i take one and pretend she is my only horse and groom real good, spend time, like a person would if it were their only horse. i did that sunday with peekaboo. braided, wrapped her legs and longed her. it was 105 outside! whew! we've had 4 days in a row of temps over 15 which has never happened before in the houston area.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

leaving a saturday vote. it's another hot one (106 expected) and i'm trying to move my water hose every 30 minutes so i cover most of my pasture area over the week end. we'll see how i do! it's exhausting just walking out in this heat. the horses are fine under the arena roof. i rode buttercup this morning. just walk/trot. taught my lesson off her. she still has the jigging problem and doesn't like to walk. she's doing better with standing at halt.
my son, michael, is in NC and getting pounded by wind and rain. talked to him this morning and all is well.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

Today is suppose to be the hottest this week. Suppose to cool down to 112* by Saturday. From October thru May, the weather here is nice. The girls are doing okay. They have plenty of water. I let them out of the corral Wednesday evening, and Sadie ran and kicked up her heels. She stuck her wet nose to my ear being socialable. Star has such limited sight. Wearing a flymask at night makes it even harder for her to see. Poor girl. She followed my voice to the water trough she was having trouble finding. She gets around good. She may have been a little thrown off, because Sadie was close by and makes her nervous, because Sadie's bossy....Please pray for Lara and Mac's grandfather who's in the hospital. Hugs and a vote. i had a stressful day. saw a dead horse on the shoulder of the road when i drove into houston. then, got a weird phone call from a funeral home in MN looking for next of kin for someone. all they knew was that this woman had family at a big horse ranch in the houston area. it made me sad. i didn't recognize the name and couldn't help.
on the plus, i rode smooch and fitted godiva in the harness again, this time with instructions from pippin. everything works and we're good to go! can't wait to have some cooler weather to enjoy a drive.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

Much cooler Thursday, because it was so windy. Sadie's almost rubbed all of the hair off of her tail. Probably because of the sun and the heat. She's bleaching from black to brown, too. trotting by with a vote! i posted info about the race horse barbaro today. another wonderful thoroughbred lost.
i rode buttercup last night. we've had over 32 days of 100+ temps and i keep waiting for it to rain and cool off....not happenin' so i decided i better get back to riding even if it's hot! she was a toot! charging and bucking when i asked for the canter. i need someone to help me ride her. she's almost unrideable for most people. smooch's lesson rider didn't come cause she had to work late so he got off work duty. lol. so i need to ride him, too.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.
