How We Met

I was going to college in 2009 and for the course I was taking I needed a young untrained horse. I thought I didn't have one the right age so I bought Celtic. I picked her because I liked her conformation and bloodlines. I ended up not taking her to college though because she wasn't ready.

..·:*¨¨*:·. *VOTE PIPPIN HOTM*.·:*¨¨*:·. .
Hi, my name is Pippin and I am running for horse of the month in January. I am a cute but feisty miniature stallion and at 31" tall and 200lbs, I can literally pull my own weight! I love going out with my humans and my favourite activities (after eating, of course!) are driving and jumping. But… really I'm game for anything asked of me. Nothing much scares me and I LOVE new and exciting adventures.

Do I have any faults? If you ask me, of course not! I'm perfect! If you ask mama? Well, she doesn't like me nipping her (oh, but it's so tempting!) and she wishes I were better with water. I'm not too keen on baths or puddles.

Next month I will have been on the Horse Channel for 4 years and I'm the oldest active member. I would greatly appreciate your daily votes and support for me all next month. I plan to educate all my fans on the wonders of minis and I hope to highlight one of my movies each day.

Thank you in advance and I hope to see you all next month so that I can reach my vote goal of 10,000 votes! Wishing you all the best for the new year and leaving a vote!

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

Hi to all. Had the vet out this morning. Lightning's got a huge hole next to the fast growing tumor. Lot's of infection. That's what was draining out of his nose. Part of the bone in his face is gone. The vet said there's nothing he can do. As long as he's eating good, he can be ridden. When Lightning gets to where he's not eating, it'll be time to put him down. ... No ride. Got Danya's rain. Love, a big hug and a vote.

~*~*~*~ •MILTON• ~*~*~*~
Everest Milton was a horse ridden by the famous rider John Whitaker. The great grey won many International events in show jumping, and was well known for his famous leap into the air that brought everyone to their feet at the prize giving ceremonies. Born in 1977, Milton was bought by Caroline Bradley from the breeder John Harding-Rolls as a weanling. Son of the International show jumping stallion the Dutch bred Marius out of an English mare Aston Answer (by Any Questions), who had competed at Grade A national level and who herself was out of a show jumping mare Pennywort (1970 Foxhunter Champion) by Top Walk, Milton was bred to jump. When Milton was young Miss Caroline Bradley told her parents he would be her Olympic mount. She trained him until her death in 1983, after which many offers were made to her parents to buy the talented animal. Stephen Hadley rode Milton for a short time, before he became a mount of the world-renowned international rider John Whitaker. It was with John Whitaker, between the years 1985 to 1994, that Milton was most successful. The grey had many international victories, and became the first horse outside the racing world to win more than £1 million in prize money. Throughout his career, Milton rarely touched a rail or refused a fence. The gelding was a favorite with the crowd, many times ending a successful round with a great leap into the air. It was clear that he loved being a show jumper. Even after his retirement at the 1994 Olympia Horse Show, he was adored by all. John once said about Milton, "Simply The Best." Milton died July 4, 1999. He was buried on the Whitaker's farm in Yorkshire.

Have a peaceful night, God bless you too!

Wow, I can't believe I actually have some time to blog on HC! Yay! Such sadness on here lately though. Losing two of our HC horses one after the other. We will never forget Tirnanog and Petite Fleur.

Things have been so busy around here. And mid November I badly sprained my wrist and could hardly type. We had a power outage and I was messing with the generator. It's pretty heavy and in the process of tipping it over my hand gave way. It was an old injury waiting to happen so I guess I'm not too surprised. At least I have my typing fingers back.

I have to tell of this magical horsey experience on Sunday. 4 friends and I went biking. It was very foggy and cold and the fog was sticking to use and making us look eerily ghost-like. We were speeding along at a good clip down the road when suddenly I heard the sound of stampeding hooves.

I turned my head and suddenly out the twilit fog came a herd of white and grey horses intermingled with a few chestnuts and bays. They were snorting and breathing the fog like a dragon breathes fire. They galloped alongside us for a minute or so and the whole time we were just looking at them with awe. It was so beautiful and utterly magical. My friends aren't horsey but they felt the magic of that moment too.

I wanted to take some photos but decided against it because it was twilight and my pocket camera doesn't do well in dim lighting. But forever I will have etched in my mind that image of them first bursting out of the whiteness of the fog. Breathtaking!

They are the same horses that star in Pippin's Love. His YouTube hit movie. Talking of Pippin, he's doing a bit better though he's still in steroids for his swelling. It's been 3 months now since that started. And I saw Jewel on Thursday and I was quite taken aback at how well she has healed. All that remains of that awful wound is a 4 inch narrow line. I suspect that there will be no sign of injury when it's all healed.

How are you all doing? Getting ready and excited for Christmas? It's a wonderful time of year. Leaving a vote for you.

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

~*~*~ *BROOMSTICK* ~*~*~
Broomstick (1901–1931) was a Thoroughbred race horse born and bred at the famous McGrathiana Stud in Kentucky, but more importantly, he was one of the great sires of American racing. Out of another great sire, the Hall of Famer Ben Brush, Broomstick went on after his racing career to produce champion after champion for many years. The important horseman, James R. Keene (who owned Domino, Kingston, Colin and Sysonby among so many other memorable horses), also owned Elf, Broomstick's dam. Believing she was barren, he sold her to Milton Young. One year later she foaled Broomstick. As a yearling Broomstick then went to a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania coal millionaire named Captain Samuel S. Brown who was a member of The Jockey Club and the owner of two racetracks. Broomstick was small, but he won his first three stakes at two. Because of this, he was weighted down rather heavily for such a young horse and consequently won fewer races at that age. He placed in the Saratoga Special, the Walden Stakes, the Flatbush Stakes, the Great Trial Stakes and the Spring Stakes. At three, and under another trainer, he won the Travers Stakes. In the Brighton Handicap he beat older horses and set a record that stood for nine years. In that race he was up against the truly game Irish Lad who broke down nearing the wire, but finished on three legs, only barely beaten. Still heavily weighted, he placed in the Merchants and Citizens Handicap, the Hindoo Handicap, and his second Saratoga Special. At four his only important effort was a place in the Century Handicap.

Have a great day, and thank you for reading my blogs :D Love ya!

~*~*~* HANOVERIAN *~*~*~
A Hanoverian is a warmblood horse originating in Germany, which is often seen in the Olympic Games and other competitive English riding styles, and have won gold medals in all three equestrian Olympic competitions. It is one of the oldest, most numerous, and most successful of the warmbloods. Originally a carriage horse, infusions of Thoroughbred blood lightened it to make it more agile and useful for competition. The Hanoverian is known for a good temperament, athleticism, beauty, and grace. In 1735, George II, the King of England and Elector of Hanover, founded the State Stud at Celle. He purchased stallions suitable for all-purpose work in agriculture and in harness, as well as for breeding cavalry mounts. The local mares were refined with Holsteiner, Thoroughbred and Cleveland Bay, Neapolitan, Andalusian, Prussian, and Mecklenburg stock. By the end of the 18th century, the Hanoverian had become a high-class coach horse. In 1844, a law was passed that only allowed stallions that were passed by a commission to be used for breeding purposes. In 1867, breeders started a society aimed at producing a coach and military horse, with the first stud book being published in 1888. The Hanoverian became one of the most popular breeds in Europe for coach and army work. When the demand for Hanoverians declined following World War I, the aim for breeding became a horse that could be used for farm work, but still had the blood and gaits to be used as a riding and carriage horse. After World War II, there was a growing demand for sport horses, as well as general riding horses, and the breeding yet again was adapted. Thoroughbreds were used to refine the breed; occasionally an Anglo-Arabian or Trakehner stallion was used. The key to the success of the Hanoverian has been the rigorous selection of breeding stock, a large breed population, and the breeders' willingness to adapt to changes in demand.

Have an amazing day, thanks for your support, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

So sorry that this copy and paste is going to be on all of your pages. Will try to make this as short as possible. Thursday was beautiful but a little windy. I'd woke up not feeling my best. I was out of my anti- depressant medication and sore from shoveling and carrying gravel. Still not done. I'd said I was going to ride Lightning. First, I watered the trees and plants in the front yard. While watering the last tree, something had crawled up the inside of my jeans and bit my right thigh. Pain and agony. Broad daylight and I'm out in the front yard with my hand down the front of my pants trying to find whatever it was. Probably a spider. Still have a hard knot and a large swollen bump from it. Something paid me back....I went inside and got the bridle. It was so twisted up. Took a while to straightened out. I tried to put the bit in Lightning's mouth, but the Big Red Machine clinched his jaws and after several tries and getting aggravated, I stopped. I went inside, grabbed a couple of dog leashes to use as reins and attached them to Lightning's halter. I'd taken his fly mask off and bandaged the tumor. It didn't want to stay on and finally fell off. I put his fly mask back on. Austin, with the camera in hand, kept leading Lightning around to position him next to the corral so I could get on him bareback. No way was he going to allow that. I'm no Danya, and he's definetly not Koot. Cowboy Doug and his sister were watching. Wendy yelled over to me asking if I was going to ride the horse. I yelled back that I was trying. It was an ugly experience. After awhile of this pitiful display of horsemanship, I walked to the trampoline mumbling I'm no cowgirl. I did mention I was out of medication? Austin brought Lightning over to me. I sat on the trampoline kissing his nose. Then Rick came home! Now I'll be able to get on and ride! HA! No such luck. When Rick got him positioned next to the corral for my big behind to get on, Lightning backed up as I swung my leg over. I was on his neck. I quickly got off, but not gracefully. I missed my footing on the side of the corral and slid down it. Okay, that hurt. One more try. Big Red would not cooperate. I told Rick that was enough. I went in the house crying like a failure. Took the medication that Rick had brought home, called David, and he's coming over to help me get my riding back on track. I then went back down to the corral, draped my arm across Lightning's back and laid my face on him. He paid no mind as he munched his hay. That's why I said it was ugly enough for Cowboy Doug to hang his hat up forever. He witnessed it all. I was so aggravated with myself. Then, a couple of hours later, Nausea hit. I got so sick. Figured it was from the bite. I hope whatever bit me got sick, too. Later, I'm in the shower and my cat knocks my bath towels in the shower with me. The next morning, my heel got caught under Austin's door as I was closing it. Another ouch. Closing with a Hug and a vote.
