How We Met

My mom raised Cheyenne, so I have always know of her, but she was nothing special until she was about 5. I another young horse that was going to be the first one to train but she went lame so I wanted another horse to train. So my mom said I could train Cheyenne. Cheyenne ended up being the perfect horse she loves to please and learns everything do quick. She ended up being one of my favorite horses except that she wasn't mine. I told I would trade another horse for Cheyenne but mom would never go for it as Cheyenne is a combination of my moms two foundation broodmares. I didn't think Cheyenne would ever be mine but Christmas 2007 mom agreed to the trade as my Christams present. It was my best Christmas Present ever.

Hi everybody! Merry Christmas!! Annie, Tickett, & Moose all got bundled up last night and we made them homemade bran mashes with oats, candy canes, and peppermint treats mixed with hot water in a bucket. They loved it! Even the horses got spoiled with gifts this year, they got Paddock cakes, likit bars, likits, jolly balls, and much much more!

But, as we all know, the gifts arent the highlight of Christmas. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season! “For God so loved the World that he gave his ONLY begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life, For God sent NOT his Son into the world to condemn the world: but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)

We didnt get a white Christmas like last year, which was upsetting, but its usual for us not to get snow in the wintertime, crazy Texas weather! Annies training is going great and Ticketts hoof is much better! He is off his painkillers and is now on stall rest. We're just happy everything is better and the stress of the season is over(:

Question of the week: What is everyones favorite part of winter at the barn?

If you send me a post with your answer I will vote for all your horses!

Merry Christmas to everyone and their horses! (:

Hi to all. Had the vet out this morning. Lightning's got a huge hole next to the fast growing tumor. Lot's of infection. That's what was draining out of his nose. Part of the bone in his face is gone. The vet said there's nothing he can do. As long as he's eating good, he can be ridden. When Lightning gets to where he's not eating, it'll be time to put him down. ... No ride. Got Danya's rain. Love, a big hug and a vote.

Hi, thank you for your vote:) I hope you are having a nice day, and MERRY CHRISTMAS. Sorry so short in a hurry all day. Love ya!

~*~*~ *Love is the meaning of all horses hearts* ~*~*~

I will start to give you guys facts about horse breeds!
~*~*~* The THOROUGHBRED Breed *~*~*~
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word thoroughbred is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered a "hot-blooded" horse, known for their agility, speed and spirit. The Thoroughbred as it is known today was first developed in 17th and 18th century England, when native mares were crossbred with imported Arabian stallions. All modern Thoroughbreds can trace their pedigrees to three stallions originally imported into England in the 17th century and 18th century, and to 74 foundation mares of English and Oriental (Arabian, Turkoman or Barb) blood. During the 18th century and 19th century, the Thoroughbred breed spread throughout the world; they were imported into North America starting in 1730 and into Australia, Europe, Japan and South America during the 19th century. Millions of Thoroughbreds exist worldwide today, with over 118,000 foals registered each year worldwide. Thoroughbreds are used mainly for racing, but are also bred for other riding disciplines, such as show jumping, combined training, dressage, polo, and fox hunting. They are also commonly cross-bred with other breeds to create new breeds or to improve existing ones, and have been influential in the creation of many important breeds, such as the Quarter Horse, the Standardbred, the Anglo-Arabian, and various warmblood breeds. Thoroughbred racehorses perform with maximum exertion, which has resulted in high rates of accidents and other health problems. Racing has been proven to have a higher fatality rate than all other legal human and animal sports. Also, Thoroughbreds are prone to other health complications, including bleeding from the lungs, low fertility, abnormally small hearts and a small hoof to body mass ratio. There are several theories for the reasons behind the prevalence of accidents and health problems in the Thoroughbred breed, and research continues in the field.

Have a great night! Thanks again for ALL your special support. It means soooooooooooooooooooooooooo very much to me!!

We are having some very cold weather (well at least for here) (it was no higher than 35 degrees yesterday and no higher than 29 today) and so I haven't ridden since Sunday. Daisy is doing great and is snug and warm in her shed. I am getting her blanket for her today and the blanket I borrowed from Sharon will go back then. Check out the pictures of Daisy with her leather halter and her hot pink halter on her page as her main photo ;) Also check out the pics of her before she came here and after she was here at the bottom of her page!Talk soon Ruth Ann, Daisy and Navajo

Yesterday my dad and I went to check the cows and to give them hay, and there was a baby calf. He was so cute. I had to help carry it back to its mommy. The mom went away and left it. Man the calf was really heavy. It's black with a little white spot on it's head. My dad wanted me to tell you. ( he loves his cows) Leaving a vote

Hope you’re Saturday went well! It has been snowing for a while now, there will be a little break, then even more. I am not liking it! It is pretty, though! I do like watching the cattle show at the county fair, it's a hoot! During one of the last classes I saw there was a HUGE white beefy cow (I would say the breed if I knew haha) about 25% larger than the other ones making a huge ruckus. It got first place, of course! It was truly beautiful!:D

I sort of left out parts of my horse adventures yesterday (sorry it was so long!) I did get back on Regal and trot and lope the crap out of him. Some people say you should lunge the horse and if you get back on they’ll just buck you off again. Some say cowboy up. I see where both come from, but I was pretty sure I didn’t break anything so I made the decision to get back on. He was pretty good after that. It did not feel too great riding after I landed on my tail bone though! LOL I’ve never had a morning like this either. I could barely get out of bed. I feel like I got hit by a train! But I took some aspirin and I feel a bit better!
Rio is also running through the bit like crazy so we worked on stopping a lot yesterday. I also took the rope with us and had it hang off the saddle horn. She’s always been scared of it so I took it off after a while and rubbed it all over her. She did great! And Regal is still tripping. He almost nose dived once. I have come to the conclusion that he must just have trouble with bearing weight. Sounds weird, but I don’t know what else it could be! I do not ride him consistently and I see him in the pasture running 20 miles an hour and bucking up a storm. I know he can trot and run around fine without me on. I haven’t ever seen him trip in the pasture. When I was bringing Rio back to the barn I was about to turn the corner and I hear Regal’s hooves pounding. I look behind me and he’s loping to the gate from the East Pasture, then he does a sliding stop, turns and goes through the gate, and runs as fast as he can adding a little buck here and there our way. I thought he was coming straight for us so we moved a little. He ended up a few feet away from us. He did another sliding stop! Crazy boy. He really enjoys having 3 big pastures to run around in, I never saw him run around at Don’s. Now he gets to be a horse. We’ve just got to get the crazy horse behavior slowed down when I’M on him.

Regal is on pg. 6 in the Horses and Their Humans category of the VHS! Please vote! (:

Praying for all of you guys as I send a vote and post a blog! ♥

Nothing much going on here. I rode Daisy bareback at a trot for the first time on Thursday night. I didn't ride last night then because of some personal issues that needed resolved. Then today I saw Daisy's halter had rubbed (I so wish I had noticed this before but I figure that the reason it hadn't before was because she filled out quite a bit...not just in her stomache area either) so I got her a new halter (a leather one) till I get a nylon one! She looks so nice in it. I can't wait to take some photos of her in it. Hope you all have a wonderful and blessed weekend. Remember to pray for those who lost their horses!! Please pray for Tirnanog’s owner, Frances’ brother as well as Frances and the people involved in his life. Please pray also for Paula, Petite Fleur’s mom. Both of these horses’ passings have shocked me, tears are shed for you guys. The day I lost Yuma was one of the worst day of my life, but if you keep their memory alive and stay strong in remembrance, that is how you get through it, as well as having friends to be there for you and lift you up in prayer. I am praying for you both!!!!

On a much lighter note....
haha I don't ride as much in winter either, we don't have snow quite yet so when we do I won't go out but once a week to ride. I don't mind the cold weather. The horses don't either, I just don't like not having the proper gear for the weather, lol. Yes I'm in 4-H but since I don't live on a farm, I don't show anything. I don't have a truck or trailer either. So I'm bummed about it,but I'm saving up. I really wanted to show beef, rabbit and horse next year, but we'll have to see.
I did finally measure Regal’s height the other day. He’s at exactly 15hh, which means he grew 2 inches since I got him! I wonder if he’ll grow anymore or not, I hope so!
Also, a few of you have mentioned (as well as myself) trouble with your horses walking around when you try to mount. I just read a good tip about that from Larry Trocha. If your foot is in the stirrup but you’re not swinging up yet and they start walking off, try taking the reins and stop and back the horse up 2-3 steps. If you’re on their back and they walk off before you’ve cued them to go, stop them and back them up a few more steps. I’ve started doing this with Regal, I think he’s caught on to it pretty well. It’s easy and I’m sure for some horses it takes some time and repetition, but I believe they’ll catch on eventually. I know most of you probably knew how to do this already, but I didn't and just thought heck why not post it anyway! haha :) Left a vote for you all!

Come visit me, Regal.
