Lily was adopted from the BLM. I fell in love with her on her adoption page but did not feel like I could deal with a Mustang straight from the wild. A generous online friend adopted her and is putting 90 days on her for me. She will be coming home in May and I'm excited!

Hey!!! Sorry I haven't been on in while!!! I have been working so hard on my video of the hC horses. My computer has been acting up and when it's not it's hard to even get near it because the other people in my family want to use it. Check out some videos that I posted on youtube and alos my new background complements of Sydney Barnes(Nightime Tea's rider)
Big Grey was so cute yesterday, I rode him for like 5 minutes because we went out on a ride and one of the campers fell off her horse. The trail guide tryed radio-ing the barn over and over again and nobody was responding so she told me to ride back to the barn and tell them that someone fell off. Grey was so cute, at first he looked back and was like are you sure we should be doin g this... I just gave him more leg. Then he started whinning and was so excited to go by himself. We trotted super fast all the way back to the barn. I told them and they jumped into this little truck called a Kubota. The barn manger told me to dismount and put Grey away. When we walked Through the asile he stoped at every stall and you can tell that he was talking to the other horses. He was neighing and whinning. He was so proud of himself. we we finally got to his stall, which is the last one at the end. He went straight to his window and Neighed and whinnied for like 10 minutes straight. He got all the other horses in on it too. We had a very noisy herd for a few minutes. Since I only got to ride for a few minutes and I was at the barn all week and didn't get to ride, I got to go to the back ring and ride Hershey english for a few minutes. Thanks for the vote. Here's one for you!!!

Hello Everyone! After 2 weeks away from home I am finally back. First of all I want to thank all my friends that voted for Navajo and left a blog while I was gone. I really appreciated that. We achieved our goal of 1500 votes while I was gone. Thanks for that also. And a special thanks to stormy for updating you guys while I was gone.

Ok now for a long update: We left on Thursday the 16th and stopped in Youngstown Ohio for the night. We left Youngstown and headed for IN on Friday. In Indiana we stopped at Elkhart for the weekend and stayed there Friday Sat and Sunday night. Monday Morning we left IN and headed for WI. We arrived in Wi and went right to the hotel. We went to the show grounds (Alliant Energy Center grounds) and set up our trailer. We sold some things on Wednesday but Thursday and Friday were the biggest days. I helped out at TM tractor on Thurs. and Frid and Sat till lunch. It was interesting and fun. On Saturday afternoon we packed everything up and headed to the hotel. We stayed at the hotel till tuesday morning. But in between there we did some things. On Monday we went to the Wisconsin Dells and did a scenic boat ride of the upper dells. It was interesting. For pics go to my blog
www.musingsofacowgirl. blogspot.com . Will have pics up as soon as posible. Anyway on Tuesday we first went to the Henry Villa Zoo in Madison and then we headed home. All of the days on the way home we hit some rain:( Today around 4 we got home. It was so nice to see Navajo and the kittens. Navajo was glad to see me. My mom said that when I went to get water he ran around in a circle in his pasture. I was so glad to see him and glad to know that he missed me. Well I must run and will try to get back to you all later on. I have a lot of work to do to catch up so most likely sunday will be the day to get back to you all:) ttyl and have an awesome weekend Ruth Ann N Navajo

Yesterday was very diffcult for me... When I went to the barn I was informed that Lacey had passed away the night before. I just had a feeling that night at about 11:00 I woke up and couldn't go back to bed. She went very peacfully. One of the workers stayed with her until 10:30 and gave her a pain killer. She just layed down and gave up after the worker left. We did absolutly everything possible. We all miss her terribly and the barn feels empty without her. Somehow though I feel that she is still there in a way. We kept a lock of her tail and her name plate and we are going to hang it in the office so we can remember her.I would still like to make a youtube video of the Horse Channel horses. I think that it would help get my mind off of things. If you would let me use pictures and/or video of your horse please send it to me at BigGreyandShay@gmail.com . Please include your horse's name, breed, age, and profile #. My youtube channel name is BigGreyandShay. Deadline is July 23rd. I really want to make this video right away. If you have a chance, please tell your horse channel friends about it too. Here's a vote for you.
See ya later...

Hey. I really tired today. I was at the barn. It looks like hopefully Lacey can start making a slow recovery. Nothing is set in stone. This morning she had diearhea, then like an hour later she just fell over in her stall. They got her up and took her outside to try to graze her and in case she died right there the campers won't see it. Then the vet rushed over and gave her more liquids through the IV. Then he stuck a long tube through her nostril and stomach fluids and toxins came out. I had to hold her durning all of this. The vet said that she is may start to recover in the next few days. Thanks for the vote. Grey and I appericate it!!! :) Today I walked out and opened up the gates so then the horses can run out. I got some cute pictures and a cool video. Then I went out to the pastures and took some pictures and bleached the throughs. Grey came right up to me and followed me around until I left. Meanwhile there is hay all over that he could be eating. I hope to post the new photos soon. Here's a vote for you...

hey
sorry again this is a c/p but all i have time for till we get back.

I ACHIEVED A GOAL. This goal acutally wasn't on my list but anyway here it is. Last summer as some of you know Navajo spooked at some donkeys along the back road I ride on. Here is the story: I was going to my aunt that lives 1/2 mile away from me and I decided to ride over there with Navajo(this is last summer) to get some books. Anyway, on the way over there he spooked at some donkeys and ran away from them along the wrong side of the road into traffic. As I said this is a backroad and there is hardly any traffic. This was soon after I had gotten him maybe about 2 months. So I got him turned around and I had his halter on under his bridle because I knew I was going to tie him over at my aunt's house so I had my lead rope along too. Then I got off and led him past the donkeys. He did not like this one bit. After we were at my aunts house (which is like 2 houses over across the road) he calmed down a bit. On the way back he was fine because the donkeys were on the opposite side of the road.

So back to this summer. They didn't have the donkeys there anymore but still had their Miniture pony Snowflake in there. Snowflake did not see us till after we were almost past and she came galloping toward us and Navajo just speeded up to trotting and went to the middle of the road but I was still in control. He was a little worked up but I got him in the grass and he was fine then. I got to my aunt's house and all he wanted to do was look around. He loves going to new places.

The thing that was different between this summer and last was: (1) Last summer I was not as experienced. (2) We didn't know each other as good as we do now. (3) This summer I have worked with him on trusting me and training him. So this summer we are closer and he trusts me. But we conquered the one very very scary thing for him. I am so proud of him and I now know that we can do some trail riding back that way:) SO over all we had a great ride and I am very proud of my boy. He got a gingersnap as a reward (he loved it). ttyl ruth ann n navajo

p.s. don't know if/when i will get on tomorrow:)

hey
Sorry for the second update in a day but I don't know how much time I will have tomorrow or even if i will get on at all so I figured I would update now instead of later. I will hopefully get back to personal blogs on Sunday unless of course I am doing stuff with navajo:) LOL:) anyway here it is:

Tonight again was awesome:) It wasn't raining when I went out to set up the boundries using poles. I did this so i would be able to make a nice circle:) About six or so months ago, I would not have guessed that today I would be able to lunge Navajo without the help of anyone. I told Rachel to stand back and if I needed here I would ask. Well needless to say, I didn't need any help. He figured out what I wanted him to do right away:) We went left first for a while at a trot because that is what he did right away and wouldn't listen when I told him to walk (I think it was because he was inside all day) so I let him burn some of his energy. Once some of his energy was burnt he decided listening to me was the best option:) LOL.

So once he settled down and started listening to me I did a trot again and he needs to learn not to pull on the line. I am not sure why he does that but if anyone has a clue let me know so I can fix it:) Anyway I got him to go right at a walk. I figured out that this is probably the best way to teach him to do voice commands also. I told him "Navajo walk" and he walked then I said "Navajo trot" and he trotted. So that tells me that the voice commands I worked on are paying off. It gives me quite a feeling of success when he does what I ask and when he does it willingly. It also shows that once I put my mind to something and work at it, I will most likely succeed. Thanks again to all my friends who have encouraged me and help me succeed:)

(no spaces) just figured i would let you know. hope you have a great weekend and if you can enjoy a ride:) ttyl ruth ann n navajo

hey
thanks for the comment on my blog and i am following yours also. i enjoyed reading it yesterday:) here is an update:

EVERYONE PLEASE VOTE FOR DOC #138653 ON TODAY SO THAT HE CAN GET HOTD ON SATURDAY JUNE 6TH WHICH IS TOMORROW. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN! ALSO VOTE FOR TIMONE#47745 FOR JULY'S HOTM AND ANNA #120988 FOR JULY'S HOTM:) CHEYENNE #82112 FOR 712 VOTES BY JULY 7TH. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

here is my groundwork update from last night: First of all I set up a star shape to improve his co-ordination. At first he was scared of the poles but then when he saw I wasn't afraid of them, he decided he wasn't either. We walked both ways across it. I got the idea out of the book Groundwork Training for your horse by Lesley Baily (featured on my horse book blog).

After I did the star I extended the L shape to make him back through two corners. He did well on the first corner the first time but it took him three times to get the second corner but I was so proud of him. He seems to pick this stuff up after a couple of tries and lots of patience from me! So far the evening was going well.

My next thing I got the idea from Marion from Sussex ,NJ who is off of horsechannel (sorry don't know her last name). She gave me the idea to put poles on the ground 2 feet apart and walk him through that. I put about 7 in a row and walked him through it. I did that like 5 times and then I spaced them 3 feet apart and trotted him through. He didn't like that to much at first but then he did it for me willingly:) We did that 2 times because he was still wasn't exactly comfortable to trot through them.

The last thing we did was the hardest I would say for us to both pick up. I have been trying to teach him and me how to lunge. Tonight I read about it in the book I talked previously about (Groundwork training for your horse) and it talked about lungeing. So I read on it and decided to see if I could try it. At first he had no clue what I wanted him to do so I got my little sister Rachel to walk along the outside of him holdin on the rope to urge him on. We walked in about 10 circles till I told her to let go of the rope and just walk beside him. He had finally picked it up and so he did great. Then I told Rachel not to walk beside him at all and HE STILL WALKED ON:) To say the least, I was so proud of him. I then let him rest to see if he would do it again after the break. AND HE DID:) I then switched directions and he needs to work on that. I will work on that tomorrow but so far I have gotten nothing but good results from him. And I am so proud. Then to end the session I got him to move away from my pressure with him facing the fence. But all together he did well and I hope tomorrow's session goes just as well.

hope you guys enjoy and i want to work on lungeing again tonight but it is raining right now but hopefully it clears off till then:) if you can help out with DOC's hotd it would be great. This is quite a long update and hope you enjoy reading:) H

hey
we will check out your blog:) sorry we don't drop by very often. Update from Last Nigh: This week i am working with navajo on groundwork so Last night I did some more groundwork again. First I walked him through the L shape and then i backed him through it and he seems to understand better each time:) After we did that I did an exercise that i read in the Horse & Rider Magazine which was to get the horse to back out of your space and he did good with that to. It is part of the Learning your manners for horses. the second exercise of learning your manners was to move his hindquarters away from me and he did good on that too. Then the last thing that i did was take him into the pen to see how well he would follow me. So first i started going in a cirlce with my hand on his halter to urge him on whenever he stopped. We walked around and around in two directions for a while and then i let go of his halter to see how he did just to follow me without me doing anything and he did good on that to. it took him a while to figure that out but when he did i praised really praised him and gave him the reward of a break. please vote Timone #47745 for July's HOTM Thanks! ttyl ruth ann n navajo for timone
