Looks like it's gonna be a fine day here. I fixed another safe place to tie her out, but the ground is too soggy. A few days ago I tied her out and she dug a little wading pool before she settled down,LOL, Fancy and Frances are leaving you an "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" vote.

Hoss looks like a good horse. Where do you ride him? We have had two lovely days in NC and we enjoyed it. Fancy and I practiced a little ground driving for about 10 minutes, then she grazed a little, and we just hung out. Here is a Good Monday morning vote for you.

Horse Show Tail
Horses tails grow all of their lives. My horse Hoss is four and his tail is still short. I am braiding it and doing exactly what I said in my blog so that he will eventually grow a tail. I am going to show him in June tho and I don't think he will grow one by that time so I am forced to buy a fake tail. Did you go to my Web Site?

Come visit me, Hoss.

Do You Want A Show Tail?
Well, you can always buy one! Yes, they are expensive, so why not just let your horse grow one? With your help it can and will happen.

First of all, stop brushing the tail. I only brush my horse's tail every few weeks. Yes I said weeks. Begin by washing the tail. Use a mild shampoo. I like Pert Plus. Always dilute even the mildest shampoo with water in a bucket. Rinse well. Next, condition the tail with a lot of conditioner. It detangles better after you condition. Again, rinse well and towel dry. Now use lots of Show Sheen while detangling only with your fingers. Once the tail is detangled comb it out and trim the bleached or damaged ends off. Not a lot, maybe an inch.

Then, beginning with the hair at the top of the tail bone, braid it tightly. Tightly is the key here. Braid it until at least 4 inches of the tail is hanging at the bottom, unbraided. If you braid it all the way down you will turn the horse's fly swatter into a whip, and you don't want that. Leave at least 4 inches unbraided at the bottom. This may only give you a few inches of braids but that is how you begin to grow a tail. Now fasten your braid at the bottom with two or three rubber bands. Preferably use a band that is coated with fabric. Make the bands as tight as you can. Then put duck tape over the bands to secure the band even better. Now leave the tail alone for a few weeks, or even longer.

Leave it alone as long as the braid doesn't become matted at the top of the tail. I have gone as long as 6 weeks without taking the braids out and re-doing it. And remember, use lots of fly spray and keep the tail cleaner than clean. A tail swishing flies causes more breakage and the braids won't last as long. If you follow this procedure in a few months your horse's tail will begin to grow longer and look fabulous in no time at all.
