Hey everyone! Going to try to make this short today. It is sunny outside so i think that i will be able to ride! I hope so! Maybel and Lavender are SO dirty! They just love rolling in the mud! I am not looking forward to grooming them. And they're both shedding like crazy! Maybel is 39 votes away from her goal! Yay! She is so close! Going to c/p due to length.
Tully is doing very well; we have been doing a little riding and he has made some good pals (who he actually knew from before, when he was at the barn previously). They were having a good time in the nice weather this evening but now the wind is up and cold is supposed to move in. We'll see.
When I got to the barn this afternoon, the steers were out. So I waited until the others got there; they had been out rounding up cattle and had their horses saddled but we thought it would probably be just as easy on foot-they were right between the barn and the pens, and it should have been easy enough to put them straight back where they belong. But three of them went around and then several others followed; getting them in on foot became unlikely as they ran off toward the river.
So I got Bradford while they took their horses. I saddled him up quick and took off; I think Bradford was surprised when I jumped on and asked him to go before I got my other foot in the stirrup (I usually have to make him cool his jets while I do that). We were about to catch up to them when they yelled to go around, they were headed our way, so we made a wide circle and pushed through a small forest of dead weeds (which were than my head, sitting on Bradford) and up the hill. Bradford went over the downed electric fence wire there (though he was cautious about it-we got tangled up in about the same place one day about a year ago and he must have remembered) and we headed them off and sent them back toward the barn. Then the issue became turning them 180 degrees into the open gate, so Bradford and I went full speed up towards the barn and got there in plenty of time. At one point my foot slipped out of the stirrup and I bounced about a foot in the air (I think maybe we hit a hole-not sure what happened); I stayed on with the help of my saddle horn and getting a grip with one leg!
We had a good time doing that and then went for a more relaxing ride into town; went to the football field and then back through the alfalfa. Let Bradford munch on some grass and alfalfa before I unsaddled and gave him his grain (he usually gets that when he comes in the barn, and wasn't really thrilled that we'd skipped that part earlier since we had to hurry).
