Fancy is leaving a vote for you this Friday morning.

King Kong was very bad yesterday. King did not want to listen to my brother and my brother's friend wanted to help, so he got on King. While my brother's friend was riding King the horse reared and they fell back. He is ok, only suffered whiplash and soreness. We don't know what got into King. When he reared, there was no bit pressure at all. So he could have moved in any direction and he chose up :(

Fancy was very good. My son has ridden her. He has gotten bored riding in the corral, so we walk around the block and through the car wash. My son loves to ride her. He would like me to turn him lose. But I don't think Fancy or my son are ready for that. Because she is still very young and I know my son does not have experience in case something did frighten her. But so far she has been so wonderful on his rides out. I don't take that for granted and I pray that she remains steady.
What are you up to on the last Friday in September?

Fancy & I love all of our HorseChannel friends and we hope you guys will stop by her page to vote each day in October so Fancy can be your November HOTM.

Fancy's sliding by in the mud to leave you this Tuesday vote. We hope your holiday weekend was most delightful. Did you enjoy any horsey time? We did nothing here this weekend. Now it is raining off and on☁

Lots of friends asked how I began to teach Fancy to lay down. Here is my comment on that.
1. First you teach the horse to let you handle his front feet. You teach them to let you hold that foot up for long as you want to with out taking it back.
2. Rope breaking helps. I mean throwing the rope all around their body, head, and legs till they are in no way fearful or uncomfy with that feel and touch.
3. You need 2 SOFT ropes. Don't tie, but loop one around the horse's front near pastern (ankle area), you will use this to hold the hoof up only, Make sure this rope never gets tight because it may slow or stop blood flow.
4. Second SOFT rope attaches to the halter as usual, except you run it between the front legs to the off side of your horse and across the back to lay on the same side of his body as the leg you are going to lift.
5. Lift the foot using the rope that is around that foot. Hold still until he is o.k. with that. Hold the foot up at the point that it touches the belly. No tighter than necessary and don't tighten as you go.
6. Teach the bow. Grab the rope that is attached to the halter it should lay just behind the withers and pull slowly and softly until he gives with his nose. His head will tip slightly then he is ready for a bow. He should go back and downward until his knee touches the ground. You have to know your horse. Let him up before he gets upset. Just in case he lays all the way down at this point, keep in mind, which ever way his nose tips is the direction his feet will lay. Stay clear of his feet so you don't get kicked.
7. If he lay down from the bow, you want to rub all over him before he gets up and tell him how great he is!
8. If he didn't lay down from the bow on his own, redo the bow and hold in the bow position and he should lay down. You may need to slightly increase the pressure with the rope that is across his withers. But remember to be very gentle. He should lay down. Depending on the horse, it may take a few times to get all the way down.

Look up Ken McNabb on the internet, his method is very gentle.
I also learned that you do not want to ride a horse up from the ground until it is over 5 years old because it's bones are still growing and you can damage it's developing bone structure, which could lead to future problems.
If I confused you, let me know or look it up on the internet. I hope this has helped.

Also if you know something that will help me with this, please leave me a blog about it!

I tried the bareback mounting again yesterday. Didn't work out. So I used the tractor tire again. Once mounted, Fancy listened very well. We walked around in the corral and even did some leg yields. It was so much fun!

Good Morning vote from Fancy and Frances♥
How are you today, did you have a nice weekend?

I would like to keep my Fancy shoe free, so I am considering purchasing hoof boots for Fancy. If anyone has any experience with these, please let me know about that. I would like to know about the ease of putting them on, if they come off easily in mud, how long they last, if they rub sores on the horses coronet or other area, did they have any effect on the hoof itself, do you think they are a good investment, and just any info you can share.
If you have anything to share or not I would like to personally thank you for giving me your attention and let you know I appreciate every friendly member I have met here. You are top notch horse lovers, the greatest!

Are you riding this weekend? I hope you are having fun what ever you are doing:)

Ok, I hope EVERYONE is enjoying a great weekend!
I have had an aweful week with my son being sick and personal issues. But as always my Fancy time has made all the bad things seem so small. God knows I love that little horse. I really need my horse. She is my blessing.
Today was the first time we rode out with Tirnanog! I was going to keep MISS Pants behind Tirnanog. Hoping she would settle down and walk slow. Tirnanog walks very slow and relaxed. Nothing seemed to phase him today. Well MISS Pants wasn't going for any slow walking mess. So I let her go and every now and then we would circle back and around Tirnanog, So we don't get too far ahead. I convinced her to walk through a few muddy water puddles in some driveways. We walked through the car wash, didn't get a wash though, LOL. Had fun stepping up a bank with a cement wall. Fancy has done this with out me on her. Today we did it together. Only problem, when we step down into the street, the last few times Fancy would jump instead of walk. Tirnanog was soo cool he just stepped up and down very easy like. The only thing that bothered Fancy today was a loud dirt bike. The guy saw her reaction and I was very thankful he turned and went the other way. My brother said he isn't to ride those on the streets any way. We stopped and let them graze for at least an hour and we stopped and talked to children and other people too. Fancy was attracted to the children. I was very impressed with her good behavior with them. Don't know how our future rides will be, but this one was a well needed breath of fresh air. I told my brother to get things ready so we can visit some state parks this fall. I think that will be even more fun!!!

Hi, here's a vote. Jumping flat is basically what it sounds like; when the horse is going over the jump his back is flat and his head is high, as opposed to the correct position where the horse's back is rounded and the head and neck are lower and reaching forward. Don't know why, but Arabians naturally jump flat, and when a horse jumps flat they are thrown off balance. Just picture the spine...if the spine is flat it causes the head to go up, imagine how difficult it would be to jump perfectly balanced. If the spine is rounded, it causes the head and neck to reach forward and the horse will have a much smoother, more balanced landing.

Yes it is good to have goals. My last show went well. On Saturday I showed my cattle and did fairly well with some really tough competition. Then on Sunday I showed Gazelle. There was only western pleasure type classes and Gazelle is not a western pleasure horse, so I did not expect to place and I didn't. Gazelle behaved extremely well and nothing fazed her and most people coudn't believe she was 3 yr old. We did place first in trail as well. Heres todays vote for your handsome boy.

It finally rained! I hope it's not finished, yet. With the heat being so miserable, It's impossible to do anything with Lightning. He and Star stay in the corral. Monday was my day off. I decided to let them out. Of course they went for the hay. Since it was feeding time, I let them munch on it. Not a good habit, I know. Anyway, Rick comes out of the house and starts yelling for them to get out of it. Lightning took off running around the corral to the other side. He was mad! He was kicking and bucking. I feel that way about Rick sometimes, too. Star was so spooked. I told him to be careful with her, because she can't see. He tried to calm her, but she ran into one of the corral panels and fell down. Scared me. She was okay . Rick spent a long time with her talking to her and rubbing her. She finally calmed and rested her head on his shoulder. She loves him so much. He loves her, too. Lightning finally forgave him. He spent about an hour with them and cleaned their hooves. too. Hugs and a vote from Joyce and Lightning.

Sounds like fun! I don't actually show in working cow horse yet, it is more of a goal in the future as my horses and I need to work on a lot of things before we are good enough to compete. He was reaching for the camera. ...I've been keeping a close eye on Lightning's face. The hole is still there, and there's a a small bump that's developed next to his eye. Will post a picture. Oh, I hope it's not another tumor. I can't afford to have the Vet back out until next March or April. I was going back home to Ga. the first of next June to visit family I haven't seen in years, including my son and his family. Here's a vote-thanks for yours, keep em' coming. The highest Goldie has jumped that I know of is 4 feet, but she sailed so easily over that height so she could probably jump about 5 feet. She jumps incredibly well for her size and breed, she is truly an amazing horse. Arabians are good jumpers, but you know how they usually jump flat? Not Goldie! When I jump her, her back feels like it's arching into a half-circle or something, it's hard to explain. Currently I am jumping about 3 feet with her. I don't want to go much higher until her lungs are stronger.

Fancy is munching on some grass while stomping your horseshoe for a vote:)

Tuesday was fun but interesting. Fancy finally had a moment of jealousy. I try to spend time with her last so she remembers that when we go in for the night. Tuesday evening, I put Fancy in a little pen where we let the grass grow for her. Then I got Queenie out. I thought I had a white dog with spots, not, under all that white she is black, go figure! We played fetch and I sat down and watched her play. The whole time Fancy was watching us more than she was eating grass. Fancy kept running in circles and sticking her head over the fence and kicking and bucking. My goodness!
Meanwhile, I taught Queenie to climb on a barrel bottom and jump into the truck for a treat and also to enter her kennel when I ask her. She is the greatest little dog ever. I gave Queenie an hour of my time, then I tied her where she could watch us. Then I went for my Fancy. She was neighing and running and jumping. Well, when I got there she was soaking wet. She has never behaved like this before. I took her out and she had a little attitude. Strangly it wasn't at me. She watched my little Queenie from the corner of her eye while she snatched some grass like she was angry at it. I told her Queenie is our friend, we belong together. Meanwhile, Queenie is in a cocky little stance looking back at Fancy. I am thinking 'all right now, you two must learn to get along'. I took Fancy out for a walk and when we passed our house from the street, Fancy looked at Queenie the way she looks at the horses up the street when she passes them. Like 'look at me, you can't do this.' And Fancy began to act very happy again. Just like always. When we went home she was still happy and didn't mind Queenie at all. I was afraid she would be jealous one day. But she has done very well since Friday when I got Queenie. I guess Fancy thought, this has went on long enough. But she has to learn Queenie is ours and one day we will be a trio♥

It is amazing how Fancy and I can understand each other's thoughts and feelings. It is like we read one another. I want Queenie to fit into this puzzle with us, ONE DAY:)
