I know how you feel!
Last year I bought a Appaloosa gelding and was alot more than I bargened for. You have to be more pactient with Apaloosa's they are a different kind of horse. But I bet you have the love of horses in you. And once you gain a Appys trust they will be your friend for ever and do anything they can for you, Good Luck!

It sounds like your precious Blossom needs some ground work along with less grain and alfalfa. Do you have a round pen you could do some work in? I really have had great success with John Lyon's methods. He has a great series of 3 books out called Communicating with Cues I, II and III
We all can learn so much from each other and I do understand because I have a frisky one too. Keep working at it and you will succeed.

God Bless You Both!

i think attention would help a ton!
She needs love
I had a QH that was abused and that's what it took
I saw another comment that u may have 2 go agressive
U may
It hurts u but somtimes u just have 2!
Let her u know you're the boss.
IF it gets worse you'll have to get a little meaner....but not much!

Come visit me, Eva.

thank you everyone for that if you have any more please let me know! by the way, she was abused alittle with a harsh bit so she uses a... i think hackmore bridle. i have had ankle surgery so i have to get back my comfidence in horses. im used to a slow little pudge horse not a tall, skinnyins, spirited one!

I have a little advice on what to do with a crazy horse because one of my horses was a handful and all was I spent more time with her and I scratched her ears and but I didn't give her too much or she will think she is getting a reward on being crazy. So spend more time with her and work with her on the halter a bit to show her that you know horses.

PS: You may not want to, but you might have to get mean! I love horses sooooooo much but I still get aggresive with them.

Come visit me, Bambi, Seeco & SinSee.

The Wonders of Appys!
You sound like you have your hands full.

Appys are fairly level headed when they feel secure and confident in their surroundings.

They are very curious.

First, No alfalfa unless is is mixed with a lot of grass. It is best to stick with a hay that is not so high in food value. They like to pick. I spread Shanaskas hay around in the winter. I break up to feed him many times in small amounts through the day. Keeps him from eating too much too fast and keeps him from getting bored. In the summer I have pastures so he is happiest with plenty of room to walk and pick.

Stick with Trotter, Blue Seal for grain. It is a pelleted grain. Stay away from sweet feeds. The pellets have everything without the added sugars.

Weigh your feed, if her weight is good then only give her enough to handle what she burns.

So many varibles, do you ride or train daily? Do you have pasture or is she in a paddock? If she works little and has little room get her toys. A big ball, the apple lickers you can hang to play with.

Appys are very intuned to emotions, if you are very excited she will be too. So as you work with her, do some deep breathing and calm yourself before you go to the gate. Have a plan in your mind and follow through. She will pick up on you focus and it will make her more confident in you. As you learn about each other it gets easier.

Let me know if you have any more questions

i have found one! her name is blossom, she is 9 years old, she is quite frisky! and somone fed her 1/2 A BALE OF alfalfa. so she is FRISKY!!!!!!!!!!!!! but she has gotten over that, but she is a registered appaloosa. she is pretty, but if you have any suggestions on calming her down i would appriciate it! we have lowered her percent of grain and hay and come summer we wont have her on much pasture, now that we have found out how she acts! but to calm her down besides that i would appriciate it! we are going to go to riding lessons, hopefully together for awhile!

~please reply
