How We Met

I was looking for a new horse, because my other horse fractured her pastern. I found Henna in an ad in the newspaper. I went to look at her and three other horses. She was the one I liked the most, because she acted a lot like my other horse and I knew Henna needed a good home where she could be loved and taking care of properly. I love Henna and I will forever.

August 2,2011- 4-H fair in one week can't wait. Henna and I have been practicing all summer. She did excellent this morning!!

August 15, 2011: Fair week is finally over. Henna did amazing. I'm so proud of you girl.
Henna is the 2011 Power County unit 2 Hi-Point working Ranch Horse, Reserve Hi-Point Horsemanship Horse. Congratulations Henna for taking home 1st in ranch roping, 1st in Inter. Halter Showmanship, 1st in Western Equitation, 2nd in Cow Cutting, and 2nd in Bareback Equitation. Way to Go!!!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Thank A Veteran : "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” (Elmer Davis)

I hope you gals and guys are saddling up Saturday and/or Sunday in support of our Veterans. People who give or gave their lives for others each day they served, when they really did not have to do so. Wow, what amazing people they are.

My granddad was in WWII and my oldest son has served in the Afghanistan wars, working on communications devices. I have one cousin serving in the navy, that was injured during the attack against the United States Navy destroyer USS Cole on October 12, 2000.

We all are affected by the military in some way.
No need to be shy! Know a veteran, share and show love & support! Share interesting military facts, quotes, and experiences on Fancy's Veteran's Day page! Don't forget to leave a blog letting me know if you have a photo to add! Ask your HorseChannel friends to participate in Sunday's HorseChannel trail ride.)

Here's a vote from Fancy & Trigger :^)

When I logged in tonight I saw some comments that touched my heart. I am thankful for my HorseChannel friends. You never know how much you mean. You guys are the best!!!

No ride today, it was very chilly and windy :(

Does anyone remember reading last month, about a nationwide Ride to Remember Veterans during Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 10-11, 2012? How would you guys like to have our own HorseChannel ride in honor of Veteran's Day? We can chose one day that we all will ride on, even if it is only for a few minutes or just to sit on the horse during the Veteran's holiday. Then we could share our pics from that day and share our story of the day. If you agree would Sunday November the 11 be ok for our ride date?

November is a time of thanks. Thanks should be part of our every day lives all year long. Let us be thankful for our friends and loved ones. Let us be kind one to another. Cruelty has no place among true friends.

Hi! Did you have a busy, fun weekend? What have you been up to?

I have been on the move, but I enjoyed it! Saturday morning, Fancy participated in her first parade! It was a really big homecoming parade, with lots of tight crowds and loud bands! Fancy was excited for the first 15 to 20 minutes, but after that she was very relaxed and was not bothered by bouncing children on the sidelines. In past years, I have ridden my previous horses in this parade, but I never got to participate in the tradition of riding around the football field before the game. I could not get my past horses onto the football field because they were afraid. Well yesterday, I did for the first time, ride around the football field, with my Fancy! Fancy even took the lead and she did that running walk at least half way around! It was so much fun! I will never forget the first time I got to ride around the football field!!!!! Oh, and to boot, the home team won their game!!!!!! I would like to believe Fancy gave them good luck when she went around the field. LOL!
Half way through the day all I could think of was how this has to be my best day ever with Fancy. And then I think to myself, I have had so many days that I thought were my best day ever with Fancy! Saturday morning, I lost my keys on the way out of town. The keys fell off the side of the trailer or the truck. But I found them completely mangled on the side of a busy street after 6 hours of being run over in heavy traffic. Even though I had the lost key problem, I still had that feeling of this being the best day ever!

Saturday night, our family attended our horseshow end of year banquet. This was our first time attending and I had no idea what to expect. So, I did not take my camera and I was very surprised to see Little Cowboy & Trigger won a good bit of awards. Little Cowboy was so excited to share the awards with Trigger, they used their new snaffle bit and new grooming kit tonight. He is going to save his new blanket for next years show season. Little Cowboy rode until dark, and I did get a few pictures tonight before it got too dark.

Have a beautiful Autumn day ✞

It was a lovely day until the rains came in. There was a long storm that recently ended. It feels really nice outside these days.
Trigger was blind in one eye before we got him. Monday his blind eye was very cloudy. Today the vet told me Trigger is fine long as he is in no pain. He is such a great kids horse. I hate that something happened to his eye and I pray that I can take good care of him from now on.

Please visit Sassy Sapphire #193884 and leave an encouraging word. From what I can tell, her blog to me says Sassy Sapphire's owner lost her father this past Sunday morning.

One of my friends was out last Saturday at one of the state parks riding and there was an accident. Her friend dismounted to help and her friend's palomino TWH walked off. They were on the news tonight asking for help to find the missing horse. Please pray that they find Jasmine in good health very soon.

Very Important Message from Logan #237047: Could you please spread the word that my wrist is in really bad condition and I can't vote for people today! It is swelled up pretty bad and moving it hurts! Please spread the word!

Have a blessed and peaceful night

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, in honor of Angel Pixie Dust's (profile 101958) May HOTM campaign for our Angel Joanna, ANGELS HAVE NO PHILOSOPHY BUT LOVE:
"If we were all like angels, the world would be a heavenly place." (Author Unknown)

I dedicate this special occasion of our first show together to Joanna and Pixie Dust.

Fancy spent Friday night in a blanket with hopes she would be more clean than dirty come morning. The back clip had come undone, but that blanket did serve the purpose. Fancy only had one area on the side of her neck that was dirty. Once at the farm, I cleaned her dirty spot and her feet before introducing Fancy to the sandy arena. At first she was a little excited to be in a new place, but soon settled down. We only entered two classes this time. Fancy was fine, except she did not like horses standing behind her. When horses were lined up behind us, Fancy kept trying to spin around to see exactly what they had in mind back there.
We entered class 2 Adult Halter with 6 entries and Fancy placed 3rd!!!! This was the first time I ever won a ribbon with any horse!!! I was so excited. We didn't do so well in Class 3 as we placed 5th out of 5. However, We did leave with 2 ribbons from our first show!!!

Love From our herd to yours♥

"The guardian angels of life fly so high as to be beyond our sight, but they are always looking down upon us." (Jean Paul Richter)

PLEASE READ, CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS BLOG: I made an error in dates listed in my blog. I also somehow accidentally lost Joanna's first name in some of my blogs.

The CORRECT INFORMATION is Joanna Helen Wicke January 1, 1977-September 23, 2011.

I guess I am not very reliable at 3:30 in the morning. I appreciate Marion and Indy calling this to my attention and I apologize for the error.

There are a few active HorseChannel members that remember Joanna. If you remember Joanna, PLEASE share a blog on Fancy's page. I would love to read what you have shared with Joanna during her short stay here.

Hi! I hope you are doing well today looking forward to a horsey weekend and celebrating this Easter weekend. We are in a 3 day stretch of cold rain & I am freezing :) We are not expecting warmer temps, but we do expect the rain to clear up this afternoon. Then we can have some fun.

Enjoy a Blessed Easter season

MESSAGE FROM JOANNA'S SISTER APRIL 4, 2012: I just found the webpage on HorseChannel and it is so sweet. My parents and I are really appreciate of everyone's kind gestures, which mean so much to us. Thank you!!

Your responses to my blogs have encouraged me during the blogs that I have written. Sometimes it is hard when you miss someone that has touched you in a special way. I thank you so much.

I really hope you have enjoyed reading and learned some things about our Angel Joanna. Thanks for reading these blogs and taking into consideration how Joanna touched many lives during her short stay on earth. We never knew just how giving she was until it was too late.

Be kind, be sweet, be loving to one another, because we don't know what a person is struggling with from day to day and we all have struggles.

"We're all kissed by angels but some of us never think to pucker." (Terri Guillemets)

Joanna loved animals, but she had other loves in her life as well. Joanna was loved by not only her personal family and HorseChannel friends. I learned that Jane Seymour, star of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, was a very personal close friend that paid several visits to Joanna. You see, people of all walks of life could benefit from knowing such a loving & kind spirit.

Joanna often mentioned Dancing With The Stars in her blogs. When Jane was on Dancing With The Stars I don't think Joanna would have missed a single show. Joanna has managed a fan website for Jane's Dancing With The Stars partner, Tony Dovolani and Karina Smirnoff. Joanna spent her last evening watching Dancing with the stars. ONLY NOW, I know how important the very thought of dancing must have been to Joanna. I bet the first thing she did when she arrived in Heaven was to dance. Something that so many of us take for granted. I hope that sometime today you will stand on your feet when you hear your favorite song or hum a tune to yourself and dance a few steps in honor of our Angel Joanna.

I hope through these blogs you can understand how unique Joanna was and the way she inspired me to try my best to be a better person. We all experience turbulence in our lives. But this young lady was able to look past the turbulence in her life with an amazing desire to share life and love with others. In spite of her many health issues, Joanna was a blessing to those that knew her.

It is not because angels are holier than men or devils that makes them angels, but because they do not expect holiness from one another, but from God alone. ~William Blake

Sometime in 1991, Joanna came across 2 Shetland ponies for sale in a want ad. Both ponies were purchased by her family and given to Bloomfield Hills School Farm. Joanna named the ponies Tinkerbell & Pixie Dust. Joanna helped her mom create and teach 'LOVE-A-PONY', an afterschool and summer class for children. For seven years Joanna was with her ponies almost every day. It has been over 19 years since creating LOVE-A-PONY, and I have read that this pony class is still being taught this very day.

Joanna's was confined to her bed the last 9 years of her life, during which Pixie Dust was allowed to visit Joanna at her bedside. Joanna also made friends all across the world with the use of her computer, thanks to her dad for building a stand that allowed her to safely use the computer while lying down.

Pixie Dust at 21 years old, has joined Joanna in Heaven. I have read that this date was sometime around or on the 27 of February, 2012. I can only imagine the joy felt during that reunion.

Joanna was extraordinary. Always thinking of how she could help others, even through the use of her ponies. She loved unconditional and she reached out to others, even when she needed to be reached out to.

Joanna, a true inspiration ♥

A group of members have formed a group, known as the Angel Crew. The Angel Crew would like to win Angel Pixie Dust the honor of being HorseChannel's May Horse of the Month in honor of Joanna. If you would like to help, please visit Pixie Dust's HorseChannel page #101958 and leave a vote each day during the month of April 2012.

Pixie Dust, belonged to our Facebook pal and HorseChannel member, Joanna Wicke. Joanna was loved by all who knew her. She was always positive and uplifting to others. Joanna welcomed Fancy and I to HorseChannel with unbelievable love and daily support. After a disturbing disappearance of Joanna, Sadie's owner, Joyce informed us that Joanna had passed away in her sleep at the tender age of 34 on September 23, 2011. It was only then that her many health conditions were revealed. Even though being confined to her bed for the past 9 years, Joanna never once revealed a single pain to us. What a remarkable YOUNG person to have as a friend.
It was in 1991 that Joanna & her mom purchased Pixie Dust to share with the Bloomfield Hills School Farm. For 7 years Joanna helped her mom create & teach Love-A-Pony, an afterschool & summer class for children.

HI Henna, here's a vote for ya. That's great that you two hit if off now. It takes a while sometimes to really get one going right and get to be one with them. I've had Indy 4 years now, he's always been really quiet, but was green. Now he's really coming into himself in the show ring. I still miss H.t. so much, but he was a spookie one at times. Indy just don't really care about much at all. I need that now that I'm in the older riding catagory. LOL. Well, it's all over, no more work! Burned my punch in badge all ready. LOL! hello all!! so excited! Pat and Linda Parelli are on a Horse and Soul Tour of the USA and they will be in our area (actually only an hour away) tomorrow!! mom said i can go but i'm waiting for my friend to call back to say if she can take me or not. please pray that i could go :~) i R-E-A-L-L-Y want to, but deep down inside i doubt it will happen! if it was a month, or even a week from now i'd be more hopeful, but it's TOMORROW! i can get digital tickets online thankfully, so i'm praying that i can go. but i know that no matter what happens: if something comes up that we can't go, God is doing it for MY good. that's so comforting to know that i can always trust it to be good. God always will work everything out for the best.

took Sweet Pea over to Sharon last evening to practice for the local rodeo (May 5th). we did the barrels and the poles. we didn't have very much time tho because it was dark.

went over tonight before supper this time and stayed an hour and a half. ponied Flicka. i just tied her there to get her used to being tied away from Sweet Pea while other horses are walking and trotting around. she didn't like it but she stayed put :~) there was a 1 year old colt loose (on purpose-they let him out in the yard :~) and he came up to Flicka's tail and wanted to sniff Flicka. Flicka turned around and kicked :~) it was sooo funny! GO GIRLS!

did you here of the movie "Courageous"? my parents watched it and i read half of the book at somebody else's house and i could;t borrow it!! i think i'll go crazy till i find out what happens!!

decided to sell my KindleFire and buy a digital camera cause i L-O-V-E taking pics!!

so sorry i wasn't on and voting since Friday! Saturday i usually don't on, and Sunday's i never do. But i missed Monday and Tuesday :~( i missed you all!

Mom dropped me off at my friend Sherena's house Sunday afternoon. we were together till my other friend Danika came around 8:30. we were going to sleep overnight there and go out to eat for breakfast then danika was going to go to her school and i would have visited Sherena's school with her. FUN. but one thing-i got SICK. so right when Danika came, they had to take me home :~( boohoo. i was sick till Tuesday morning. I didn't feel like doing my school so i couldn't go on HC. but mom gave me extra time today!! YAY!

didn't work with my horses at all....just found out that the local RODEO is going to be MAY 5TH!! i am sooooooo excited!!! last year Sweet Pea won a BLUE in pole bending and a RED in barrel racing. My friend Sharon said that if it's not muddy, i can come over and practice in her meadow because she has everything set up. Maybe i'll do that tomorrow.

so that's what going on!! how was your weekend? hope it was better than mine! but even though i got sick, i was able to write ALOT in my book that I'm writing. well...sorta. i won't get it published or anything, but i might type it up for my friends and family :~) just a fun thing to do when i get bored.

“Old minds are like horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.” (John Adams)

We have enjoyed a lovely day without a storm in sight! I did ride Fancy around the block this evening. She was a bit hyper to get home. I discover, it seems as if she only wanted to make sure Trigger was not touching any thing in HER corral. She is so possessive! Since she was so worried about bossing Trigger around, we trotted around her corral for quite a while. Fancy thinks Trigger can not eat, drink, or stand anywhere without her telling him exactly where, when, and how. I did notice that she is not pinning her ears at him as much. But she herds Trigger like a top notch shepherd. And poor little Trigger is so tolerant.

Do you have any horse in your herd that is as possessive or bossy as my Fancy?

Have a grand and peaceful night ♥

Please continue to pray for Princeton.

We have enjoyed a fun horsey filled weekend. Cowboy was feeling better and ready to get going. Saturday evening we spent at the horse auction. Cowboy was very shocked to see a run-a-way Halflinger run past us in a panic. His owner had beat him with a pipe and the poor animal was doing his best to run away. This happened twice before we left. Same horse, same man, same pipe. I could not understand how no one reported the man.
We have afternoon storms lately, so our herd of 2 was very dirty. It only sprinkled a little today, which allowed us to groom them. Cowboy could not believe how much shedding hair and dirt was on his little Trigger. I thought Fancy was close to finished shedding until I curried her today! What a load of fluff!
Cowboy was very proud of his little obstacle coarse made with cones he set in the back yard. We took turns walking Trigger and Fancy through them. It sure did turn cold as the sun set. We put our herd of 2 in the corral and we headed in for the night. Surprise for me! This was the first time we put Fancy and Trigg in the corral for the night that Fancy did not chase Trigg and be mean to him. Yay Fancy! My good girl :)

Good night all♥

I got to go see sandy on saturday morning and i got to spend some time with him! he's still lovely as always with little bits of attitude thrown in between :) i have new photos up on every page! i also made a new page for my other lesson horse that im riding along with ziggy. her name is juanita :) i got to ride her on saturday afternoon for my lesson. and ziggy is FINALLY HOME! it's such a relief to have him back in the barn and acting like his old goofy self again! hahah! unfortunately he is stuck in his stall for six weeks :( i know he hates it so much! he constantly stares over his stall door watching and whinnying to his friends out in the pasture. he also kicks his door every now and then and he walks in circles. i feel so bad for him but i know it'll make him better! we just have to make sure that we hand walk him around the property every day so he doesn't get toooo restless! lol but he's walking around fine and acting normal! almost all the swelling has gone down but there's still alittle left, other than that he looks normal now! i put up photos of him in his stall. and now for the best part of my lesson on saturday............ I CANTERED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! it was so much fun! there's so photos of it on juanita's page! gosh it was so exciting! hahaha i'll put up videos later :) anyways im leavin a vote and i hope you have a wonderful week! i loooove this spring weather! hahah!

“Lord, You make me as honest as the horse I ride.” (unknown)

The day I met Fancy:
March 9, 2009,8am: found classified add for 10 month TWH. That evening, we traveled to a VA farm. The owner pointed Fancy out, my heart immediately fell in love with this untouched filly. I saw a beautiful future in this long legged, woolly, running like crazy, with her big round bulging belly, filly. The drive from NC to VA was not in vain. The owner and his sons drove all horses into the barn and then ran them out, except one, Fancy. They got the halter on her and the fight was on. After finally reaching the trailer, it took forever to get her in the trailer. The guys had to lift her up and push her in. Ok that done, the sun had parted with us and we were on our way home.
We stopped at the convenience store and I looked in to check on what I planned to be my new best pal. She was not happy, but doing fine.
In the dark of the night, Fancy would not back out of the trailer. She actually decided she would rather lay down in the floor of the trailer rather than do anything we wanted her to do. We had already moved the partition to the side of the trailer to give her space, but we had to work around the center bar in between the back doors. Fancy would not get up for nothing in the world. I wanted to leave her there for the night, but feared she would hurt herself on the partition or something when she did get up. We carefully pulled her out without hurting her. I put her in a stall for the night so I would not fear her getting hurt because she did not know her surroundings. I did not sleep all that night!
Each day there after, I would sit in her presence for a while and when she showed signs of relaxing, I went in to catch her. She was tricky, but so was I. LOL. She slowly learned and gave me her trust.
Each day with Fancy is as exciting as the very first.

Hi Henna, here's a vote for ya. Yes, H.T. was a great show horse, We started showing in halter when he was a yearling and he did excellant. I retired him at the age of 15 from showing. I miss him so much. He was a big part of my life for so many years. I'm glad that you did so well at the County Fair this past summer. I started out in open shows and grew to the registered ones. You will too, don't worry it will happne. Now I have Indy to work with, I've had him almost 4 years now, he'll be 8 in May. Well after yesterday and a high of 73 degrees, it was a mere 33 this morining. And just about made 40 today. Stupid weather, at least no snow though! Todays lessons for Indy were more flying lead changes and Karen said he did very well. He loves having a job to do.

hello henna and owner!!! wow you are simply gorgous and your achievements are quite stunning!!!

I BELIEVE...reading the Bible is a priority, not an option.

well, i feel as if i got a lot done today!! i worked with both my horses, one i was happy with and the other i was N-O-T pleased. by the end of this blog you should figure out who i was happy with and who i was not :~).

i ground-drove Flicka first. we went over three poles on the ground that were pretty far apart. she would weave from side to side in front of the pole because she didn't want to go over it, but she went pretty good once she knew what she was supposed to do. i went around the property then and she stopped almost just by my voice command!!

then i got sweet pea out, after brushing her, the filthy pig :~). i warmed her up and her canter was incredibly soft and slow, and we were even going on a downward slant, and she usually speeds up at that part of the arena, but i didn't even have to pull her slower!
then i started jumping. thats where she gets stiff and resistant AS SOON as i shorten the reins. it so annoying! i just am at the end of my rope! on the trails she's fine, she's soft and kind but when she head toward a jump she gets all excited and tries to run like it's a steeplechase. any advice? i know i have a lot of work to do with her but is she trying to tell me that she doesn't like jumping?? maybe her saddle doesn't fit. it is a horse saddle, and she's just 14 hands. maybe i just have to start at the beginning again. yea i think thats what i'll do. just go back to A-B-C :~)

flicka's shedding quite nicely, SPRING is just around the CORNER :~)
mom and the girls are busily working on the girls' board for our Geography Fair, i;m just about done just need to do a little more. its SOOO much fun- i can't wait!!!

have a wonderful day, FRIEND!!!! ~Andrea and the horses

Ziggy update: Vet called to give update on Ziggy...his PCV (packed cell volume) dropped so he does have some sort of bleeding going on, but not a major hemorrhage. They are considering the possibility now that he may have a major muscle tear....fracture is still possible though. They are weaning him off the pain medication to see how he does without it. They are waiting another 24hrs before considering another ultrasound or xrays. He is still bright-eyed and bearing weight on his bad leg

* hopefully if all goes well then he should be able to come home on friday or saturday so im keeping my fingers crossed! the barn is so empty without him home. :( i miss him bunches! but please keep praying for him! im leavin a vote and thank you for all the support and prayers!

“God so loved the world...He gave us horses!” (unknown)

We have enjoyed a very chilly, windy, beautiful, horsey day! Cowboy C had his best pal from school over for the day. They took turns riding Trigg while Fancy watched from her stall. When they tired of riding, I got Fancy out for some grass and grooming, then I turned her loose again. I always get Trigg out first and Fancy second. That way she remembers that she got all the attention before I went in for the night. Fancy is so funny. When she comes out, she looks at Trigg with this attitude, as if to tell him that she is princess of this yard. Trigg is so sweet and tolerant of other horses. . When I return Fancy to the coral she will chase him for a second to let him know she is back. Then she leaves him alone. I notice that each day Fancy picks on Trigg less.

Have a Blessed Night

Q: Why didn't the honeybee go out in the rain?
A: She couldn't find her little yellow jacket.

Good joke for these rainy days. LOL.

Fancy and Trigg are doing fine. Fancy chases; Trigg runs.
We are expecting at least 2 more rainy days, so nothing is planned for the weekend.

Are you enjoying this weekend? Is it sunny at your house. I pray everyone is safe from the storms and that the storms stay away.

“Horsing Around!” (anonymous)

Cowboy C and I have been very busy lately. We give Trigg his med baths and take him for a daily walk to help him dry. Then we let Trigg and Fancy eat grass in the back yard.
Fancy is a little jealous off Trigg. She tries to stay in between Trigg and us. I tell her no and make her back up when she does this. Today Fancy was a good girl when my son walked over to tell Trigg goodnight.
Thursday my little Cowboy rode Trigg in the back yard. Trigg has not been ridden since the last time 'C' rode him in November at the farm. He is not perfect, but he was pretty good.

Well, I need to finish my blogging and voting so I can get some rest. You have a good night ♥

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
“To live anywhere in the world today and be against equality because of race or color is like living in Alaska and being against snow.” (William Faulkner)

Fancy Queen of Heart Month is blowing a heart vote in your direction this beautiful Monday morning.

We thank Joey, Ginger, and Angel Betsy for suggesting us doing the Black History blogs this past few weeks. I enjoyed this project, it was fun to share some of my most favorite horsey characters with you guys. I appreciate the comments and responses we received.

'C' & I trailered Trigger home Saturday morning. 'C' led Trigger to the trailer, however once Trigg saw that he was leaving he pitched a fit for King Kong. King Kong was so busy eating grass, he had no cares for Trigger's plight. Once loaded Trigger was just fine. He didn't like the idea of a bath, but it was fun cleaning him up. After his baths we take him walking and let him graze while he dries.
Sunday evening, Trigger and Fancy were turned out together for the first time. To my surprise, Fancy is not even mean to Trigger, not at all. She lets him walk anywhere he wants to, lets him eat her hay and she even eats with him. However, she does stay in between Trigger and I. I was patting Fancy on the side of her neck and Trigger wanted a pat to. He walked towards me and Fancy ran him off. He looked so pitiful. I think after a while she will allow him to come to me too, because Trigger is the very first animal in our yard that Fancy is not very mean to. I wonder if she is nice to him because she remembers him from last summer when we visited the farm, he visited us, and we went riding together.
I was very tired Sunday night. I did get my profile photos changed, then I was off to bed.

Hope you enjoyed a beautiful weekend. Did you do anything fun?
Now, YOU enjoy this Marvelous Monday!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
Located in Hartford, CT, United States, The Ebony Horsewomen, Inc founded in 1984, by Patricia E. Lawson-Kelly, is a non-profit community-service organization, developed and operated by African-American female equestrians whose mission is to encourage and empower inner city youth toward positive and successful lives through the use of horses. This female group of skilled equestrians have delighted crowds wherever they go. They have appeared in parades, rodeos and horse shows all across America. They have the proud honor of being the first female African-American female Equestrian organization to have been invited to the Tournament Of Roses Parade, in Pasadena, California, 1990, and 1991. Ebony Horsewomen members have appeared in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo circuit, just to name a few appearances. Additionally, the State of Connecticut Legislature proclaimed EHI "Goodwill Ambassadors and declared Connecticut to be the official home of the Ebony Horsewomen. Twenty-three years ago, EHI was founded upon the knowledge and belief in the healing power that horses give to youth. Based on this belief they have developed a unique array of programs that encourage and develop youth participants into productive and positive citizens and future leaders. Their full service Equestrian Center offers innovative and therapeutic programs to youth and it also adds a new dimension and vibrancy to their community.
