MAY 30, 2011 First time I rode Fancy INTO the creek, she enjoyed the water, splashed it all over her belly!
MARCH 12, 2011 Fancy & I rode into the woods alone. I think she will enjoy trail riding.
JAN 08,2011 Fancy won 1st place in the HC Virtual Horse Show.
DEC 26, 2010 Fancy enjoyed her first ride in the snow!
NOV 2010: I learned Fancy naturally does a running walk when I ride her.
OCT 24, 2010 Fancy is learning leg yields.
AUG 21, 2010: 27 month old Fancy's first ride with Tirnanog & my brother.
JULY 11, 2010: First time riding 26 month old Fancy around the block.
JULY 8, 2010: I rode 26 month old Fancy up & down the street past other horses. She was well behaved!
JUNE 07, 2010: I rode 25 month old Fancy in the back yard. She moves more alert out of the corral.
APRIL 23, 2010: 23 months old. After a little groundwork, I sat in the saddle. Since she is very forward, as I expected she began to walk. When she halted on her own, I dismounted & she gave me a horsey hug with her neck. I hugged her, rubbed her all over her neck & face, & gave her horsey nose kisses. I was thrilled with our small progress.
MARCH 19,2010: I lead 22 month old Fancy while my husband sat in the saddle. This was her first time feeling weight heavier than my son at 9 years old. Once I got her going she was ok.
MARCH 16, 2010: I stood in both stirrups & over her back, didn't sit in saddle yet. 22 month old Fancy was just fine.
NOV 03, 2009: at 18 months old, first time grounddriving using her snaffle bit. Fancy was great!
OCT 26, 2009: 17 month old Fancy stands tied quietly wearing her snaffle bit & is learning to give laterally.
Summer 2009: Yearling Fancy grounddrives with halter.
APRIL 2009: 11 month old Fancy trailers now.
MARCH 2009: I gained a wild little 10 month old Fancy's trust enough to groom, touch her complete body, lift all 4 feet, halter, & lead her.
My Horse's Favorite Treat: Fancy loves apples, pecans and even more she loves watermelon! During our marshmallow roast I learned Fancy likes marshmallows too.
My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Fancy loves to eat grass, be groomed and take long walks with me to the park and walking to the creek in the woods. Fancy likes to use her food buckets and water buckets to play jug music, mostly at night. The running walk has to be Fancy's favorite gait because she does it naturally when I ride her.
Pet Peeves: Fancy doesn't care for trains, peppermints, people she doesn't know coming up to her fast & she will stomp big or small dogs that run around her. That includes foxes! Oh no, Fancy's a bunny stomper & kitty chaser too!

How We Met

After having 3 horses that didn't work out for me due to disposition or lameness, I decided to research breeds to choose what I thought to be the best horse for me. Winter of 2008/2009, with research in hand, I began the search for MY horse. March 9, 2009, I found an online classified add with no photo for a 10 month old buckskin Tennessee Walking horse filly on Horsetopia. I called the phone number at 9am to arrange a visit. That day my husband came in from work and drove us to Floyd, VA to see this wild, untouched, spirited, wooly 10 month old filly named Fancy. When I saw that little filly my heart loved her. My husband purchased Fancy for my early 2009 birthday present.
Summer of 2012: After a lot of prayer and a lot of hard work Fancy & I are enjoying fun shows & long trail rides together.

Hello and hope you are not overdoing it! Good to hear your husband is helping some with Fancy. My husband only rode his once-a-year ride, which is more like once every 5 years ride, but he did help me to learn how to hook up the trailer on my own and practice driving it the other weekend. Last year my daughter did all the towing, but now it's up to me since she got rid of her truck and we got another truck to share among the family. I was hoping to practice more this weekend, but it's rain & more rain out. good luck at the show
GOOD MORNING ALL, we left votes on this sunny Saturday morning.
Clean up got under way, basically this property had been left about 15 years ago, the barn closed up the fences left to fall down, the house had been rented over the years and as you can see from the pics, the barn was used as a garbage dump. We had to literally hack the overgrowth away with machetes in order to get inside, we carted away at least half a dozen trailer loads of "junk". It took a good couple of months to get it ready to be a safe comfortable home for Sterl May, but thru all the work I stayed focused on my goal. Once she was settled and happy I would look for a horse to ride. The only issue was Sterl had never been alone and I worried about her stressing by herself, that is where "Jackie" entered the picture (today's profile shot) Our coach, Val had a few boarders, one owed back board, they had a horse and little Jackie, they came in the middle of the night and took the horse but left Jackie, Val gave him to Sterl May for company. Jackie was about 7 when we got him, part mini, part Shetland pony, about 9hh, but don't worry, he didn't know he was little. He became Sterl's "little side kick". Life was good. Here's a vote from Buddy! I've been missing Buddy alot lately, haven't been feeling like myself lately, been kinda "down in the dumps" I guess you could say. Can't wait to go and see my Buddy. Not looking forward to working this weekend. They started training me on customer service, without even asking me first. I guess I'll continue my search for another job and just stick this one out in the mean time. Weathers been good here, although it started raining last night and hasn't stopped yet. It's also quite windy tonight as well. Supposed to rain all weekend, so hopefully everyone has better weather than me!

Sorry I have not been very active. My family promised to clean Fancy's corral while I was under doc care. Well, Fancy's corral was only cleaned once during the first week I was down. It took a few hours, but I was able to clean up for my Fancy Thursday. The remainder of that day and night was very painful and I did not feel up to computing.
Today we had to get ready for our horseshow tomorrow! Guess What??? I had help! My husband helped me clean Fancy and he put the shavings in her stall. I was shocked!!! I hope Fancy stays clean til the morning. She is sparkling. I told my husband she should stay in the house with us tonight, because she was sooo clean. He did not share my thoughts on that one. LOL.

Hi, left a vote. Had so much fun with Amber today! Set up a few things in the arena, turned her loose, to see what she would do. She ran around, rolled twice, would stop once in awhile to look over the wall/gate/fence, would walk up to me once in awhile, and then she finally started to relax. Once she relaxed she then went and sniffed each item. I took pics and posted them. Before she relaxed she saw each item, would walk in between them but that was it. So happy she went to check each thing out on her own. It was very cold here today, with gusty winds and lots of rain, so that had her going too! Will do this again with her tomorrow. i rode buttercup and played "horse show". this means i imagine an announcer saying, "walk your horses", then we walk once around, trot once around, then canter once around. we reverse and do the same the opposite way, then line up center arena. she does horribly at this usually! she doesn't like to walk, charges forward and is difficult to control. she did fairly well this time. she broke into a trot 3 times so we would never get ribbons but it's a big improvement from a few years ago. her canter was quite relaxed after she bucked a few times. i repeated the exercise several times. rode almost an hour again. that's good in this heat Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

Hi Fancy, here's a vote for ya. what a horrible weather wise day out there today. High winds, like steady at 20 mph and gusts every 5 minutes or less to 30 mph! Rain like it was never ending! Everyone got a really good grooming and since the temps dropped almost 20 degrees in three hours, now about 41 degrees and going below that tonight, the show horses are in winter blankets, and happy to have them on! I am hoping to resume riding tomorrow, it's still supposed to rain, but I think the wind will be slowing up! At least I hope so! Feels more like XMAS weekend than Memorial Day weekend, so cold! Two days ago almost 90 with humidity the same and the A/C blasting, now the heats on in the house! Love ya, Marion and the blondies. Come visit me, Nuttin But Good. Feels like winter is back in Ontario. We left chilly, windy votes for all.
The next stage of Sterl May story could go on and on, I'm just going to give you the highlights. Even tho we live in the country, we had no place to keep her, so I gathered my thoughts and started to look for somewhere she could call home. I did have some criteria, like it needed to be safe, preferably with some kind of companion, Sterl has never been alone, it needed to be close enough that I could get there daily to feed etc. my work day starts early and I did not want to be driving all over the country side before work every day. I put the word out every where, I asked neighbors, I literally started knocking on doors. It was not looking good, until finally someone told me about an old abandoned barn not far from where we lived. There was an old shack of a house on the property that was rented to a young man that farmed with his family, he kept the house as a place to get away from work and be alone. But the barn and pasture had been let go for about 15 years. I took a look at it and at first rejected the whole idea, way too much work involved. But after David and one of my brothers hacked their way through the overgrowth around the barn door, they said "this could work". I used my imagination, the barn had water and electric, it had a pasture. about 5 acres, it needed fencing, but I saw in my mind a safe peaceful home for my girl. I located the owners, I told them my story. It was like it was meant to be. These people owned this property and had planned that one day when they retire, they would build on this land, they where huge animal lovers and where touched by my dedication to Sterl May. They said "if you think that place will work for you, you are welcome to it" the only restriction was, if something goes wrong we don't want to hear about it, I was responsible for the clean up and fencing, and I had to get along with Robert, the tenant in the little house. Your thurs night vote- The baby fox was found in the yard of my vets friend. It was very thin and had parasites. The vets got her back in shape and eating well. Not sure why the then 6 wk old baby got separated from her litter and momma. It may have been attacked and momma saved the rest of the litter. The momma had been in this area and has a den the people have watched them. This is on the out skirts of the country club golf course. I would have returned the baby to the same area. Some times mother nature in instincts tell mommas to let one go to save the rest, and some times I am able to rehab the critters and release them. It is always sad to loose one for any reason, and especially if they are cute babies. Well I have only 2 shots left and I am surviving. you are having fun with fancy training so that is cool I'm glad Come visit me, Zuni Silver Pueblo- thanks Darling & Anka vote 800.

Hi, left a vote. Well Amber didn't come home yesterday, change of plans. She came home this afternoon! It was very cold and very wet here today. I let her run around the arena for a bit, then took her to her stall with the turnout. As soon as the halter came off, out she went. She must have stayed out in the rain for half an hour. She did finally come in and ate. I took some pics of her home coming today and posted them. She settled in pretty quick! Come visit me, Toby & Amber.

GOOD MORNING, We left you all a vote. Now that I had an answer although, not the answer I wanted, I have to admit that I did fall apart, there were lots of tears. Reaction varied at the barn, most were understanding and sympathetic but remember the lady that said I needed to "hit her harder", well she said "I don't know what you're crying about, you just sell her and get something else, it's not like you raised from a baby" I have never believed that animals were disposable, and I promised Sterl a home until the day she died. But, reality set in David said that I could not continue to pay board to go 4x a week to simply pat her, there was the wear and tear on the vehicle and the gas for all the travelling back and forth, for what, I can't ride her. I needed to THINK. bringing her home was not an option, we had no land or barn. I didn't know what to do, YET, but I knew I WAS NOT GETTING RID OF HER. Hi Fancy, here's a vote for ya. Thank you, yes Jeff and Abby and her horse were safe, but about 200 horses were not out there! So sad! Got a ride in on Paige today. She was very good, and considering that about 30 minutes into our ride and training session, it started to thunder really bad. I stayed with riding till after the third really big blast of rolling thunder, then decided I didn't need to test the footing and see if the landing area was soft or not. Paige never did offer to spook, but I wasn't about to take that chance. I got off and cooled her down doing showmanship work, cause it was pouring outside and I didn't want to get soak-n-wet and get my saddle wet either. It lasted about half an hour. Here's a vote from Buddy! Working again today, hopefully it's nothing like last night, and thankfully I'm not closing tonight. I also got my music festival ticket I worked hard for. I had to promote the festival and sell 10 tickets to get mine for free. Still trying to find a better job that pays good. Maybe even a stable that would allow me to work off board for Buddy, still have to get caught up on bills first tho :( Wishing you a good week!

This has been a pretty busy week so far. Raining on and off most of the week. I am really happy to say that I am for sure moving my horse on Sunday...can't wait!!! Thanks for the concern about Sally. She is doing much better today. She went in to have a tooth removed and reacted to the anesthesia. Her face and throat swelled causinng severe breathing problems. She is on steriods and the swelling is now gone. She is sitting here watching me type:)

Here is an early morning vote for you, STERL MAY and I appreciate all the wonderful support, thank you.
Dr. Cook went to the University Hospital to go over Sterl's case with her Drs, he then came to us to explain the diagnosis in detail. This type of condition is sometimes seem in very high end dressage horses, because they are held in such tight collection for long periods, enormous stress is placed on the spine, it is sometimes caused from something like a fall eg. a horse flips over in cross ties, or an accident in a trailer, that type of thing, also studies have shown that pacing Standardbreds are more susceptible because of the diagonal motion of the legs during pacing, BINGO, STERL IS PACER BRED. Regardless of how it happened the outcome is the same. Sometimes with rest and time the bones will actually fuse, therefore no more rubbing of bone on bone and so no pain.
The bottom line was Sterl's riding days were over. Galloping by with some votes! So, spring shots/teeth work didn't happen on Fri. Our vet got backlogged with surgeries so we had to move it to this Fri (unless he gets backlogged again). After having several weeks of sunny weather sometimes getting in the 80s, the rain has returned with a vengeance. Today, we got about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain and man was it windy and cold! Suppose to get more of the same tomorrow. Come visit me, Katie.
