No ride today, it was very chilly and windy :(

Does anyone remember reading last month, about a nationwide Ride to Remember Veterans during Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 10-11, 2012? How would you guys like to have our own HorseChannel ride in honor of Veteran's Day? We can chose one day that we all will ride on, even if it is only for a few minutes or just to sit on the horse during the Veteran's holiday. Then we could share our pics from that day and share our story of the day. If you agree would Sunday November the 11 be ok for our ride date?

November is a time of thanks. Thanks should be part of our every day lives all year long. Let us be thankful for our friends and loved ones. Let us be kind one to another. Cruelty has no place among true friends.

Fancy and Frances are stopping by with a last vote for November 2010! It has a been a wonderful month for my girl Fancy. I know from trying to train Fancy myself that today's Fancy's Perception is so true and in itself, a real mouth full. We all seem to share a special love for our horses. Now we look forward to seeing who will be our December HOTM!

Good Morning HC friends! Fancy and I are leaving a thankful vote for being part of something so wonderful")
Lady Jane(#189648) told me she says a little prayer for Petite Fleur'S(#107376) medical condition, when she votes for her. Lady Jane suggested that if we all join her with a little prayer when we leave a vote, it would make all the difference.
I do believe in the power of prayer! And it being Thanksgiving holiday, What better time to ask for a special prayer for each other. Let's make this a special occasion for prayer. Let us join in together and say a prayer for each friend and member we vote for or just a prayer for the whole HC club and all of it's members. No need to be stingy with a good prayer!!!
We have friends that are traveling, friends with loved family members facing surgery, some of our horses are facing health problems(and you know all these things worry us greatly!) We have a need for the Thanksgiving prayer:) I hope this isn't asking too much of you, only takes a few seconds, unless you choose otherwise:)

Well. What a day. My Fancy Pants had her fancy pants on today. She was crazy hyper to go! Her little fast walk is comfy though. LOL. We visited our horsey neighbors on the next street. They asked me about her gaits. I told them I don't know anything about gaits. So we went up and down the street for them and they said she was gaiting. I have to learn about this gait thing. I don't have a clue.
Hey, Fancy did her leg yields very good today when we were visiting!!!!!!!!! I was shocked!!!

Fancy, and Frances are leaving an Autumn vote! Hey it's chilly this morning!!!!!!!

I hope your weekend was very nice. NC weather was lovely this weekend! I rode Fancy Sunday too. I learned to ask her for leg yields in an open space (like an empty parking lot or vacant lot) to give her time to get it right. This way when she goes the wrong way, I don't have to worry about getting into something we shouldn't be in. And I can offer her the patience that she is accustomed to. I think her being so hyper to go out and the stimulus of outside events makes it hard for her to concentrate the way she does in the corral. She was a lot better on Sunday than she was Saturday and we had a nice relaxed ride. Which was wonderful!!!

Fancy is leaving an 'end of the weekend vote' Hope it's been a nice one for you. We have had a bit of excitement. Saturday evening, I rode Fancy around the yard for a while. Queenie was tied out and my son's Jack Russell Terrier went over to Queenie. Next thing I heard some pitiful screaming! Queenie had half of that little dog's head in her mouth! I got off of Fancy and rushed over. The only thing I had in my hand was my crop whip. The little dog was using the bathroom all over the place, I guess the poor thing thought she was about to meet her maker, and I thought the same. I popped Queenie with the crop whip and she didn't let go. I really whacked her quite a few times before she stopped shacking that poor little dog. The little dog was quit upset, but she was in one piece. During all of this poor little dog screaming bloody murder and me screaming No Queenie, stop!, while I was holding Fancy's reins in one hand and whacking with the other hand, Fancy was eating grass. When I was going over the events in my mind, I realized how quiet Fancy had been and I couldn't believe it. I Thank God Fancy was still at the right moment. Well, this wasn't the first time Queenie attacked the little dog, but it was the worst! Needless to say Queenie no longer lives with us. I don't know why she has the worst dog aggression problems I have ever seen!!! I thought she was going to work out with us, but I can't handle that kind of aggression.

Oh, my little girl is growing up! Fancy lost one of her front bottom teeth last night. Saturday she was flipping it back and forth with her tongue like a little kid. My 9 year old son lost a tooth last week. I guess they are growing up together. LOL. Fancy is doing very well with the leg yields. She understands now, we just have to practice more.

Here is a vote from Fancy!

Monday evening I went out to spend some quality time with Fancy") I really needed that. We practiced some leg yields and backing with me in the saddle. Fancy was pretty good with the backing. It took a few attempts before she understood the leg yields. It takes a few tries but each time she does them better than the last time. After a few minutes I let her graze and just enjoy some quiet time together.
My saddle is very comfy with the new adjustments. It is easy to keep my heels down and I am not reaching for the stirrup! That felt good! I can't wait to use them for a longer ride and see how my knees feel.

Here is a patiently learning and kindly trying to teach vote from Fancy and Frances this beautiful Sunday night♥
What a busy weekend. I am kind of glad for the week. That sounds aweful!
I did ride Fancy Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. I guess it was time for Fancy to say "hey I think I want to be the boss now." And I had to say,"No, Little Lady" Each day our ground work was very good. Fancy almost has leg yields very well. Friday was the first day she did a leg yield with me in the saddle. She is not very confident with that yet. Friday Fancy was very hyper while going out, but she was good. So we were ok.
Saturday, our family got up around 6am to see the Winston Homecoming Parade which lasted for hours! The best part was the horses at the end. This is usually one of the parades we ride in. I got to talk to some old friends")
Back home after the parade in Winston, traffic was so heavy here, we walked to the Lexington Barbecue Festival. There was folks here from WV, Va, TX, TN, PA, etc, and someone even flew in from Germany. We met my brother and Tirnanog at a gas station near by. Tirnanog was a such a doll. He gave rides to some kids when their parents stopped so they could met him. They offered to pay my brother, but he told them rides are free") My brother wanted Fancy and I to ride out with him. I was soo tired I told my brother I would ride Sunday after church. I was to tired but I knew Fancy needed some time. So I made myself saddle her up, practice our leg yields and ride. When Fancy realized we weren't leaving the yard she was not a nice little horsey.
Sunday after church I felt like Fancy needed some one on one time with me, so we didn't ride out with Tirnanog. She was good with the groundwork. Even tried really hard to understand and do the leg yields with me in the saddle. When we headed out of the yard my little horse lost her brain. This was the worse she has ever acted! She tried to rush out with me and give me attitude. I had to address some respect issues. It took us at least 30 minutes and 5 attempts to leave the yard in a controlled manner. When we left the yard Fancy went very nicely. And she listened very well. She even stood for me to check the mailbox, I thought that was nice of her.

I also added two other baby photos below. Before the end of that first week I could touch her, lead her(just a little) and groom her(which she loved). Fancy had never been groomed until after that photo was taken. She looks so pityful when all the other entries in Baby Face are so well groomed. Gotta Saturday Night vote for you! I hope you have had as much fun as we have today! Today was bath day for Fancy. After her bath my son (on his bike) and I hand walked Fancy around the block. We let her graze before going home. I saddled Fancy and I rode her around the neighborhood and through the car wash:), while my son rode his bike. She surprised me by walking sooo slow the whole time. I couldn't believe it. I didn't even have to fight with her to go into our yard. She was just layed back and easy going! I was just surprised! I took tons of photos with my clean girl. Now she smells fresh too! I hated to put her into her corral. I hope she doesn't roll tonight:( I will see about that in the morning, LOL.

I am soo tired, but I'm trying to return votes for today. Fancy and I rode out with Tirnanog and my brother Saturday and Sunday after Church we rode out with my neighbor up the street. He rode Commanche his 10 year old paint. Today was Fancy and Commanche's first time crossing the railroad track. Fancy crossed it first and he followed right behind. My neighbor couldn't believe she went first. At first she was unsure, but I kept talking to Fancy and she went right on and I patted her and told her how proud I was. Then he did the same with Commanche. At the next track Commanche went across first. It was a fun ride. Fancy and I led most of the ride. Commanche hasn't visited his page lately, but you can see how pretty he is at his HC page #155223.

Ok, I hope EVERYONE is enjoying a great weekend!
I have had an aweful week with my son being sick and personal issues. But as always my Fancy time has made all the bad things seem so small. God knows I love that little horse. I really need my horse. She is my blessing.
Today was the first time we rode out with Tirnanog! I was going to keep MISS Pants behind Tirnanog. Hoping she would settle down and walk slow. Tirnanog walks very slow and relaxed. Nothing seemed to phase him today. Well MISS Pants wasn't going for any slow walking mess. So I let her go and every now and then we would circle back and around Tirnanog, So we don't get too far ahead. I convinced her to walk through a few muddy water puddles in some driveways. We walked through the car wash, didn't get a wash though, LOL. Had fun stepping up a bank with a cement wall. Fancy has done this with out me on her. Today we did it together. Only problem, when we step down into the street, the last few times Fancy would jump instead of walk. Tirnanog was soo cool he just stepped up and down very easy like. The only thing that bothered Fancy today was a loud dirt bike. The guy saw her reaction and I was very thankful he turned and went the other way. My brother said he isn't to ride those on the streets any way. We stopped and let them graze for at least an hour and we stopped and talked to children and other people too. Fancy was attracted to the children. I was very impressed with her good behavior with them. Don't know how our future rides will be, but this one was a well needed breath of fresh air. I told my brother to get things ready so we can visit some state parks this fall. I think that will be even more fun!!!

How's everything going for you this weekend? I finally got a bit of time to blog. Yay! I'm sorry that you're going to have to sell Joker. It's probably best though from what you describe. Good luck with your search for that perfect one!

This week my sister and I had quiet rides on Eddie and Prince. It's back in the 100s again and even though we ride at dusk it was still pretty hot and both of them were less than energetic.

It was nice though because I rode bareback again. I haven't done that for over a year and the last time I did was when Prince went insane and I ended up with concussion and a number of bruises. He's come a long way since then.

He still thinks its weird without a saddle though and he kept looking at my right foot like it wasn't supposed to be there. And then he'd shake his withers and flanks as though there were flies on him. Maybe he just thinks I'm a big ticklish fly. But he didn't spook or buck. In fact, he hasn't bucked since I've switched from his huge heavy Western saddle. I never liked that saddle and perhaps he never did either.

The week before last I only rode Jewel and my sister didn't ride at all. You should have seen Prince's expression of disbelief! "What, you're riding HER?! And not ME?" I didn't have a lot of time though and Jewel hadn't been taken out all week.

I rode her hard for about an hour. First ever long ride on her. All of the previous ones (10 or so) have only been for about 15 minutes. And we worked on cantering. She has a strange canter. On a straight line her body is diagonal. Almost 45 degrees from the direction we're going. I worked on straightening her out and she did improve. But one thing that really pleased me is that she has absolutely no problem picking up the correct lead. Every time I asked for a specific lead she took it, no question. I am impressed with her.

She would make a great dressage horse with the right rider. She has excellent collection and a nice spring and hangtime to her gaits. Too bad she's not mine and I don't have more time. I love working with her.

Pippin is doing great and at least he's right here so I can get my horsey fix several times a day. If you saw his video you'll see what a quirky personality he has. He likes to nibble on people and I thought I'd see if he'd actually bite properly if I let him have my hand. Well, he got his teeth on my thumb and let me assure you, yes, he can bite properly. Nasty little ...

I've been driving him quite a bit and he's always good. And the heat really doesn't seem to bother him. He barely breaks a sweat. I think I might clip him again though as he's already started on his winter coat.

Fancy is munching on some grass while stomping your horseshoe for a vote:)

Tuesday was fun but interesting. Fancy finally had a moment of jealousy. I try to spend time with her last so she remembers that when we go in for the night. Tuesday evening, I put Fancy in a little pen where we let the grass grow for her. Then I got Queenie out. I thought I had a white dog with spots, not, under all that white she is black, go figure! We played fetch and I sat down and watched her play. The whole time Fancy was watching us more than she was eating grass. Fancy kept running in circles and sticking her head over the fence and kicking and bucking. My goodness!
Meanwhile, I taught Queenie to climb on a barrel bottom and jump into the truck for a treat and also to enter her kennel when I ask her. She is the greatest little dog ever. I gave Queenie an hour of my time, then I tied her where she could watch us. Then I went for my Fancy. She was neighing and running and jumping. Well, when I got there she was soaking wet. She has never behaved like this before. I took her out and she had a little attitude. Strangly it wasn't at me. She watched my little Queenie from the corner of her eye while she snatched some grass like she was angry at it. I told her Queenie is our friend, we belong together. Meanwhile, Queenie is in a cocky little stance looking back at Fancy. I am thinking 'all right now, you two must learn to get along'. I took Fancy out for a walk and when we passed our house from the street, Fancy looked at Queenie the way she looks at the horses up the street when she passes them. Like 'look at me, you can't do this.' And Fancy began to act very happy again. Just like always. When we went home she was still happy and didn't mind Queenie at all. I was afraid she would be jealous one day. But she has done very well since Friday when I got Queenie. I guess Fancy thought, this has went on long enough. But she has to learn Queenie is ours and one day we will be a trio♥

It is amazing how Fancy and I can understand each other's thoughts and feelings. It is like we read one another. I want Queenie to fit into this puzzle with us, ONE DAY:)

A Good Thursday Morning vote to you! I thought Wednesday would be boring, not. I have trained Fancy to step on boards and approach things since she was 10 months old. I decided she is ready to do this under saddle. I laid a good sized board in her corral. We done some groundwork and desensitizing. I let her walk over it without me on her. She kept pawing it and making the noise. She likes the noise SHE makes. When she was walking over it fine, I mounted and rode her over it. She walked slowly the first two or three times in one direction. Changed directions and I had to encourage her to walk on. She did. She stopped as soon as she was off of the board and turned her head to look at me and sniff my leg on the left and right. It was like she was asking me if we were ok. After a few repeats we were walking right over that board just fine. So I unsaddled her and hand walked her around the neighborhood for some grazing. Folks were asking me why I wasn't riding. I told them I allready did that:) Nobody understands. It is not just about the riding:) On the way home, that fox crossed the road in front of us! He stopped and slowly turned to look at us. I shook my lead rope at it and when I did, Fancy stomped at it with her front leg. When she did, that fox ran into the bushes. I patted her on the neck and we finished our walk and went home. I think if I am riding her and she sees that fox, I think she will try to stomp it.

A vote from stormy North Carolina. I just got in from a horse show. It was bad driving home in the storm. I didn't get to take Fancy because we took the hitch off the truck and didn't get the other one on yet. I was glad I didn't have Fancy out in this storm:)

Fancy is stopping by with a late Monday night vote. Sunday proved to be a nice day for us. Sunday evening I rode Fancy in the back yard AND for the first time ever, I rode her all the way around the first block up the street. We only did it once, but it was FUN!

We did nothing today and probably won't do anything tomorrow, it is cloudy and rainy here. We do need the rain:)

Stopping by with a late evening vote:) Whew, I am tired. It has been a crazy strange day. But my Fancy time made it all well at the end of this day.
I have ridden Fancy three days straight now. Each day has gotten better. I pray this trend continues:) When I went out this afternoon Fancy was running around like something WILD! Bucking, jumping, rearing, and running! I looked at her and thouhgt maybe I shouldn't get on her today. Well I decided to work it out. In the corral we did some ground work and I mounted her. Rode about 5 minutes, she was listening very well:) So I dismounted and headed out into the yard. We did some more groundwork, then I mounted and she kept her head straight out and didn't move. She is a little stiff on the right side, so I decided to work on right circles. We done several small circles until she begin to listen calmly. As she relaxed and began to listen we made larger circles. Boy, this was better than yesterday! I decided to circle things like the tree, the dog lot, the shed and Fancy was very good. I even let her walk fast and I enjoyed it:) I wish I could have seen it!!!!! We went into the side yard and she did speed up when she thought we were going out of the driveway. More tight circles and back into the back yard, over and over until she calmed down. Since she wanted to go out, I headed to the other driveway and went out and up into the first driveway, did this a few times. Then we walked up and down the street a few times. Fancy didn't want to go in the upper driveway, so, I decided to take her up the street. I walked her past the other horses because I didn't know how she would act. She looked at them and kept going, like she was saying look at me! She ate some grass and then I asked her if she could be a good girl and ride me home past the other horses. Believe it or not, Fancy nodded her head up and down. I put her bridle back on and she stood perfectly still while I mounted and we walked home!!!!!!!!! The only problem I had was, again she didn't want to go in the drive. I gave her a tap on the shoulder and she went on:) I groomed her while she ate grass:) Now I am all cleaned up and tired:)

We bestow upon you this Grand SummerHot Tuesday vote!!!

You wouldn't believe what happened yesterday morning! This guy put his three horses across the street from where Tirnanog is pastured at. And one of them is a stallion. This is the 3rd or 4th time the stallion has gotten out and terrorized the other horses. The horse in the photo with Tirnanog is a mare. This horse bred with her yesterday. Her owner had to get a shot from the vet to abort any pregnancy. My brother called me to medicate Tirnanog. So off I went. He was scratched up, some a little bad and some not. But a lot. BUT one horse there is an appalosa and he got beaten badly. They had to call the vet. His right shoulder was torn open and the muscle was hanging out. I have never seen anything like it. It was a huge wound. It looked like a bomb exploded in his shoulder. But the vet and the guys said the stallion bit him and left that wound. The stallion is small but he is very bad. If Tirnanog would not have ran, he would have gotten hurt very badly. Everyone was very angry, even the vet. I hope this is not something that is seen often or at all:(

Happy 4th of July!
I hope you are having a wonderful celebration today with your family and friends. We've had fireworks and guns going off since the 1st. Fortunately none of our animals are afraid of the loud noises. I guess they're used to hearing hunters.

The only complainers are the peacocks but that's nothing knew. Everytime a firework goes off they start screaming bloody murder. But then again, everytime someone sneezes they scream bloody murder. And if you go past their pen and look at them (yep, you guessed it) they scream bloody murder. So, it's a bit noisy around here.

Pippin has no problem at all with loud noises. In fact, if they were setting the fireworks off in his pen he'd be right there on top of everything. Remember how he didn't react when his tyre blew out? I'm still amazed about that.

My sister and I rode on Thursday. We both rode Jewel but not for long. I wanted to take her out with Prince but I guess it was too much excitement for her and she didn't behave. She kept pawing the ground and acting like she was going to roll. Neither of us wanted a 1 ton creature rolling on top of us so I rode her in a few circles and we put her back in her corral.

Both Prince and Eddie caught her excitement and were a lot of fun to ride. We raced a few times. They're not very good at racing because neither wants to leave the other. So much for the male competitive spirit :)

Well, I hope you're thoroughly enjoying your day and eating lots of good food. We'll have a bbq later this afternoon. Here's a vote for you. ttyl

Oh, Tirnanog has developed a strange habit. The last few times he has been ridden, after mounting him he bucks a few times and then looks back to see if you are still on him and then if you are still there, he walks on like nothing happens. HMMM, I wonder what is on his mind.
We saw the movie Avatar yesterday and it was better than I ever expected. I told my sons I was going to braid my hair and go out and plug it into Fancy's mane to see if we would bond. They laughed. Ha, they just didn't know, it worked. LOL. Now when I ride Fancy I am going to think I am plugged into one of those huge winged creatures soaring through the air!
Have you ever seen a movie that made you feel like that could be you on your horse? Well, that is my fantasy for the week:) What is yours?
