How We Met

Zip's grandad is Zippo Pine
Bar. A horse at our barn Printz got bought so Lisa who owns the barn had to buy a new horse to take his place. When she found an ad for Zip she asked the owners to make a video of him for her to see. Despite the fact that the video consisted of his previous owners chasing him around a ring hitting him with a lung whip that had t plastic bag tied to the end of it he remained calm as could be. He still has that attitude about everything. Lisa had a gut instinct to but him and did. He had a three day trailor ride to get up here from Louisianna and somewhere along the way the person driving the trailor of six horses stopped to give them a break. She tied poor Zip up to a fence near a road (she clearly didn't know much about horses) and when a car drove by and was to loud Zip pulled away and broke the fence. He dragged part of the fence underneath him through a local woods. When he got to us his back and front legs, chest, back, and face were scratched up and his legs were swollen. I spent at least thirty minutes every day I went out in his secluded stall because he also developed a cough brushing him, cleaning his cuts, and bonding with this sweet little pony that quickly became one of the barns favorite horses. When my old horse Dakota develped EPM and became unridable I had to look for a new horse to train. I didn't have to look very hard... Now whenever I come to the barn he nickers at me through his window. He's very calm, sweet, and eager to please. He's much to mentally old for his age though, he gets bored with going over jumps if you go over them to much which makes lessons very entertaining.

We didn't get to walk yesterday because the men came to cut the large tree down and it took all evening. They got the tree down and hauled off the top part. They are coming back with some equipment to load the bottom half cause it is tooo big. They are going to make something with the wood so they couldn't cut it down. This was an excellent experience for Fancy because she was afraid at first. About 20 minutes into the sawing she calmed down and didn't even pay them any attention. I was so proud of her. Everything is a learning experience for our horses, which can be good or bad.

On this grand Monday morning we leave a vote for you in honor of Fancy's last day as QUEEN Of NOVEMBER. Life is short and friends are few, we appreciate HorseChannel and all the friends we have made thus far. LOVE & JOY TO THE NEXT REINING HOTM!!!

nice story. Sorry to hear about Dakota, though. My vet is working on some off label drugs that seem to do a better job than the FDA approved treatment. Of course we still have to catch it early enog=ugh though. Well enjoy your new horse. Sounds like you are bonding nicely.

Come visit me, Storm Warning.
