Type of Riding: Mama was a western horse, all around. She was trained in cattle working and could cut corners very fast. She loved to go on trail rides.

My Horse's Achievements: Mama lived through many years of abuse, she survived Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Dispite this, she was always a very nice, gentle horse. She has had many foals and was a wonderful mother to each one of them.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Mama loved to play chase with her friend, Dream.

Pet Peeves: Mama did not like having her feet picked up. She would do it, but she didn't like it.

How We Met

After Hurricane Katrina, we got to know Mama at the barn we were keeping Dream at. Mama was very thin and not in good shape at all. We bought her in Nov. 2005, knowing that she might not live much longer. Mama bloomed into a beautiful horse with the love and care that my husband gave her. She gave us a wonderful year of happiness. Sometimes a horse comes along in your life that just grabs your heart and runs with it; Mama and Dream, both, have done that. We found out in December 2006 that Mama had cancer in her face bones that was progressing quickly. We knew this pain she was in would only get worse. We put her down that day. She was too good a friend and had suffered enough in her 19 years to allow this cancer to hurt her more. I do hope that we gave her as much happiness as she gave us. She looks like she's smiling in that picture, doesn't she? She is missed every day..

A beautiful story... Unfortunately, sometimes putting our four-legged friend down is the last gift we can give them.
