How We Met

Well i'm 15 years old and have been riding since i can remember. The last horse i had, i bought and he was still extremely green. Well with him i discovered i loved training horses! So i kept telling my parents that my next horse was going to be an OTTB. they just kinda laughed and were like 'yeah right.' lol. But i woke up Christmas morning. Opened all my presents, but there was one last present left. A little tiny bag. It was a note from my parents with directions telling me to go get my coat and my barn shoes on. Then to meet them in the kitchen. I did that. then they put a blindfold over my eyes, and took me outside and led me to the barn. They took the blindfold off and there stood Ella! they told me they had just picked her up straight from the racetrack the day before. She had never done anything but race. I was so thrilled. I started crying! I finally got my racehorse! Now we're training her, and let me tell ya. Its not easy. Shes a handful! But shes my girl. And i love her :).

That should be really fun! Good luck with both of them! We have a lady coming out to look at a horse called Legend (who is a goreous buckskin almost Grullo color). While she was in the phone to my trainer Tammy she couldn't remember his name so she said she would describe him as a plain brown wrapper kinda horse. Tammy and I could not stop laughing for the rest of the day. She called the prettiest and most saught after color in the barn plain and boring! Then again she had no idea about horses and said she wanted a pony between 16 hands and 17 hands for her daughter? Good luck finding a 16hh pony LOL. Anyway, I rode Percilla yesterday and the moment we got to the ring she was crazy! We cantered/hand galloped 15 laps before I could even get her calm enough to walk or trot! Then she was exausted and got mad at me for "making her canter" LOL She was trying to buck but without having to work.

hi
I would absolutely love to do the whole jounalist thing! I love creative writing! Apparently i'm really good at it too. My parents both say that i'm very observant. And with the whole vet thing, i'm homeschooled, so it may make things a bit easier. Cuz i can skip through all of the things that are review and stuff that i already know. Cuz right now i'm in 6th grade and actually i actually would be in 7th grade advanced classes right now if i went to public school. So, my mom has talked about how if I worked hard enough that i may be able to graduate when i'm 16 or so cuz there's all kinds of stories about homeschooled kids gradauting way earlier than "normal" public school kids do. Is the weather finally starting to warm up at your place? We're on vacation in MI right now, so it's still pretty cold, but back down to our place it was 72 and sunny when we left on Sat.! I miss Ollie and Delbert a lot, but we'll be traveling back home next Monday:)! I hate the traveling part though, cuz it takes 8hrs to get up here(which doesn't sound like very far, but you really don't know how far it is until you travel it). Hope your having a great week so far!

Sorry it took me sooo long to reply. That really sucks about your leg. I hope it gets better. Yesterday we had a silent auction to raise money for a new barn. I'm still not sure how much we made but hopefully a lot! On saturday Percilla and I jumped for the first time in 3 months! We only went over a 10 or so cross rails but it felt great! Hopefully we will be ready for competing at 2'6" by the next show. Percilla was great and I swear she got bored going over such little jumps. She kept trying to drift towards the coop since thats her favorite jump. Next time hopefully we will get to work on courses again. Have a great week.

Hey! It was a really HOT weekend, I never thought that it would get that warm again! We acually bathed Blossom! I used one of those quick wash shampoos, and we just blasted her with it. At first she was good I got her right side all cleaned off. My sister was holding her since she can't be tied. Then I let my sister wash her other side. I held the rope but she kept pushing on me and was really scared. I kept telling Megan to wash her legs first (I was on the other side and could'nt see what she was doing) but the spray was still directed to high. Finally Megan pointed it at her front legs and she calmed down like magic. Afterwards I asked Megan where was she spraying Blossom to make her so afraid. She said that she had been spraying her shoulder, of all places! If you don't want to scare Blossom you HAVE to start at her back legs and slowlt work to her head. I am LUCKY if I can even wash her shoulder! Well after that we dressed her all up and I braided her mane. It wasn't the best job. Then my mom let me wear my show outfit. Everything was so stiff!!! The boots were brand new and I thought that they would spring me out of the saddle! After awile they were broken in enough to jump. Then today it started raining. I really wanted to ride so I ran out there and rode her before the ground got muddy. It was good training for her and she quickly got used to the puddle covered driveway and the rain dripping off the jumps. I am trying to get her used to everthing possible so that when we go to a show she will be focused on the course and not the noise. Sounds like Ella is doing great! Good luck on those tests! I hate tests!! No I have never gone to a show before but there is one on April 10 that we are going for.

Hey! Blossom and I have worked on cavalettis, grids and double jumps the past few days. I had my lesson and rode Lucky over a show jumping course. It was exciting, but got a little scary when she got very FAST over the double and then we had to turn and jump the biggest jump on the course! We did it 3 times and my instructor talked with my mom. Mom said that she seemed suprised with how good I did, she says that I will definetly be going to a show soon and I might get to show that big horse Felix. I am so excited!!!

Sorry it took me a while to reply. My family and I went to California to look for a house and a barn for Percilla since we are moving there this summer. I rode Percilla again this afternoon and she was a llittle crazy after having five days off. Ouch!! Is your leg better now? That would really hurt. Did he jump the fence or stop? Anyway I've got to go, hope your feeling better and congrats on the lead changes.

hi
That's way cool that you work at the hospital in the summer! I don't think i could ever work in medicine, just cuz...i mean i can do blood and surgeries and all that stuff, but i think it would be more fun working with animals. I'm debating on whether or not i should be an equine vet, equine journalist, or a mounted police officer. What about you, would are you wanting to do? My horses and I are fine, i've been really busy, cuz we're involved in church(a lot) and sports and stuff too. But Delbert and Ollie are just great, i rode Ollie on Saturday, and he was just great. He was kind of nervous, considering the fact that i rode him over to the neighbors for the first time. But Delbert is good, it had started to warm up here quite a bit, like it was 70 3 days or so ago, and now it's back down to the 40's. I can't wait for spring! Things are already starting to green up here!

yes, i'm an aged trainer! trying not to train anymore. lol. hope you check out my mare, sing. she's an OTT thor like ella. now 15. i've got some vids of her on HC. one is of me riding her with no saddle or bridle and another of me jumping her over a 3 ft course. we seldom go out anywhere and she hadn't been jumped for almost a year when i made that video but i had alot of fun. my son was home visiting and i bought a new camera so i wanted to see what we looked like. i never get to see myself ride! i love to see my horse's in the videos. hate all the critiquing though since i'm too old to change (my equitation) and too tired to work more than once a week or so with the 4 horses that i'm training. i use them all in lessons. i look forward to hearing how you do with ella. i know what it's like to work endlessly on the head carriage, collection, getting strides....once sing did a 6 stride in 3!! it was her first horse show and she got pretty strong through the lines. good memories. :)

Hey! Sounds like you got some nice stuff! I've been wanting a new saddle, but since mine is still in good condition, I guess that will have to wait! It is supposed to start raining again tomorrow. So I guess that Blossom and I won't be riding soon. She made some really good progress and I think that she will make a good show horse!

That is SO funny that your dads a doctor, cuz my dad is a physician assistant...who's kind of like a doctor...ask your dad to explain it to you, cuz i'm not exactly sure how too:). I'm sure he'll know how though. I live in KY(The Horse Capital of the World!). That's awesome that your mom is a trainer! Waaay cool! I only have 2 horses...i think I may have mentioned that in the last comment, but i couldn't remeber. Anyways, I have a 39 yr old quarter horse gelding named Delbert who was my very first horse. Hey! Yesterday I rode Blossom, but she had alot of energy! It was the good king of energy though and not the skittish, jittery kind she usually has. I was still a little worried with her being so energetic so we didn't do much jumping. Then this afternoon, I lunged her to get that extra energy off. She was really good when I rode her a few hours later. Even though she was acting really lazy, we still jumped 2'4" and some low oxers. I think she kinda likes jumping, cause when she sees the jump in front of her, her ears prick up and she lifts her feet higher. How is Ella doing? Are you still working on lead changed? Blossom doesn't know her's so I probably should teach her sometime...

Good to hear none of the cuts were to deap :). I went out and saw Percilla today and once again all she wanted to do was trot. When I went to put her blanket back on she was eating her hay so instead of making her stop I decided to just put it on while she was eating. The moment it was on her back she freaked out like she had never seen in before and began snorting at me ;). I couldn't stop laughing at the look in her eyes, like the blanket was gonna eat her. Then she realized it's the blanket she's been wearing all winter and went back to eating.

Did you guys have fun? Hopefully when the weathers a little nicer Percilla and I are planning on going on a trail ride to but for now we are working on getting over the snow (STILL!). Sadly the ring is still covered in snow so no jumping for us but we did manage to find some safe ground to canter on and work on placing our feet exactly where I want them. Since the barn has collapsed we have been using the wash rack as a tie stall to tack up in. When I took Percilla in there she was being really stupid ans snorting at everything but she's been in there a hundred times before. She acted like an idiot until I went to put the bidle on. Right as I was putting the halter around her neck she bolted out of there and into the field! Then she wouldn't let me catch her so I had to tempt her with a bucket of grain. Throughout or whole ride she was a little ball of energy. Ahh but I love her, quirks and all.

Hey! Yesterday, I rode Blossom in her pen. Then I decided to do some jumping. I was riding in the front yard and she spooked. She threw her head up but she didn't bolt. Even though it frightned me when that happened, I decided to jump anyways. I'm glad I did, we did a few good jumps and I have some pics of it. My sister rode bareback, so that is my sister in that picture. I rode again today, Blossom is really pen sour! So I took her up front and jumped higher today. I got 2 more pictures and even cantered the last one. My sister did a little jumping, she is just learning. So Blossom is doing good right now!

Ollie
Hi!
Sounds like you jump pretty high too! What is the name of the barn that you ride at? Mine is called Windy Knoll. I actually just got Ollie in the beginning of this last December, so i've been jumping him around 2-2'3 or so..because when we got him, he was being used as a lesson pony, and the girl that leased him just came to the barn, threw a saddle on him and galloped him at full speed over every jump in the arena. So, it took time to get him calmed down again, but he's got such a sweet personality and such a bright happy go lucky potential that he's learning a lot quicker than I thought he would have. He's an awesome pony and I love him to pieces! I also have my other horse Delbert, who's a 39 yr old quarter horse gelding whom I love to ride bareback and just trail ride on. He's a blast, cuz he's totally bomb proof. And all my friends that live in the city, just love to come out and jump on him and walk and trot him around the yard w/o having to worry about anything w/ him. But in lessons, I use to ride an appy gelding named Rocky, and when i first started out on him, we just worked on cross-rails and 2 ft verticles. Then I moved on to a 17.2 hand Percheron Thoroughbred cross mare named April(her profile's on here and so's Rocky's) and I jumped around 3ft w/ her. And then I moved on to a Spanish Barb gelding named Louis...aka Louie:). He's a big sweetie...kind of a pain to catch, but i love him. Now I am jumping around 3'6 w/ him. Yes, I use to show a lot...I use to ride at Scheffelridge Farm and I rode a lot of ponies there, but i did 4-H w/ a paint pony who reminds me a lot of Ollie. I won 37 ribbons w/ him. He's was great, and we got along really well. In the 2 yrs that i did 4-H I qualified both times to comepete at the State Horse Show. The first time though, we were taking a Family vacation and I didn't make that trip. The second time however, I did end up making it. And we placed 2nd in the jumping! He was a giant spaz though...all in all we had a good time though. Well, that wraps up my story. Do you show? I've been riding for a little over 5 yrs, how long have you been riding?

Hey! We only have a tiny round pen, which isn't very usefull when riding. It is way to small to jump in and if you think about it our front yard is to small as well. I am always slipping back into my old bad habits when I am riding, it is so hard!

Hi! Blossom is doing better. I figured out that she doesn't like a tight rein, and that when I get nervous I tighten the reins, then something will happen and I'll tighten the reins more, etc. So I tried to keep the reins loose with minimum contact. She was alot better, but still threw a few bucks when she got stubborn. I am using my english spurs instead of the crop and it seems to work better. I am still a little worried about riding around in the front yard since there are no fences to keep her in. I can ride through almost anything in our little round pen, but take me out of it and every little twitch she makes I get so scared. Blossom has a really nice canter when you give her enough rein!

LOL, I went out to see Percilla again today and she refused to leave her stall. Most of the snow has melted and bshe is really not into mud. I opened her door while I was watering and went up to talk to Tammy, when I came back 30 minutes later she was still standing in her stall with her heads out and looking at me as if to say "Mom, you idiot, you left the door open!" she was really not into braving the mud ;).

Hi! I think Blossom is going crazy! Well not exactly, she is just getting herself in alot of trouble. The other day she spooked once again, this time there was a jump in her path! It is really scary riding a bolting horse over a jump! I have no idea how I stayed on for that one! I tried my english spurs the other day because the crop was definatly not making any differance. For the fist day or two it helped alot then the next day she could have cared less, she was in total reverse mode. She tried to trot bacwards, seriously. I have no idea what to do with her now.
