My Horse's Achievements: He won 1st place at a SWVHA show in slow pace & 6th place at Danville in slow pace; his very first shows as a 2 yr old... He is my very first horse. He was young & I was green...He weaned me of my fears & we grew up together...and ya know what??? WE MADE IT!!!

My Horse's Favorite Treat: apples, carrots, and believe it or not, I go ape over coffee & cream!

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: I like to eat and sleep in the sun, then play and run and do it all over again! But loves giving kisses...

How We Met

Shear luck and an offer dropped in my lap to purchase a 3 yr old! I think it was a little bit of a bribe to get me to agree, because I was no where near ready to own a horse! But I bought him anyway & he is one of my best attributes!

It was a lovely day until the rains came in. There was a long storm that recently ended. It feels really nice outside these days.
Trigger was blind in one eye before we got him. Monday his blind eye was very cloudy. Today the vet told me Trigger is fine long as he is in no pain. He is such a great kids horse. I hate that something happened to his eye and I pray that I can take good care of him from now on.

Please visit Sassy Sapphire #193884 and leave an encouraging word. From what I can tell, her blog to me says Sassy Sapphire's owner lost her father this past Sunday morning.

One of my friends was out last Saturday at one of the state parks riding and there was an accident. Her friend dismounted to help and her friend's palomino TWH walked off. They were on the news tonight asking for help to find the missing horse. Please pray that they find Jasmine in good health very soon.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, in honor of Angel Pixie Dust's (profile 101958) May HOTM campaign for our Angel Joanna, ANGELS HAVE NO PHILOSOPHY BUT LOVE:

I dedicate this special occasion of our first show together to Joanna and Pixie Dust.

Fancy spent Friday night in a blanket with hopes she would be more clean than dirty come morning. The back clip had come undone, but that blanket did serve the purpose. Fancy only had one area on the side of her neck that was dirty. Once at the farm, I cleaned her dirty spot and her feet before introducing Fancy to the sandy arena. At first she was a little excited to be in a new place, but soon settled down. We only entered two classes this time. Fancy was fine, except she did not like horses standing behind her. When horses were lined up behind us, Fancy kept trying to spin around to see exactly what they had in mind back there.
We entered class 2 Adult Halter with 6 entries and Fancy placed 3rd!!!! This was the first time I ever won a ribbon with any horse!!! I was so excited. We didn't do so well in Class 3 as we placed 5th out of 5. However, We did leave with 2 ribbons from our first show!!!

Sometime in 1991, Joanna came across 2 Shetland ponies for sale in a want ad. Both ponies were purchased by her family and given to Bloomfield Hills School Farm. Joanna named the ponies Tinkerbell & Pixie Dust. Joanna helped her mom create and teach 'LOVE-A-PONY', an afterschool and summer class for children. For seven years Joanna was with her ponies almost every day. It has been over 19 years since creating LOVE-A-PONY, and I have read that this pony class is still being taught this very day.

Joanna's was confined to her bed the last 9 years of her life, during which Pixie Dust was allowed to visit Joanna at her bedside. Joanna also made friends all across the world with the use of her computer, thanks to her dad for building a stand that allowed her to safely use the computer while lying down.

Pixie Dust at 21 years old, has joined Joanna in Heaven. I have read that this date was sometime around or on the 27 of February, 2012. I can only imagine the joy felt during that reunion.

Joanna was extraordinary. Always thinking of how she could help others, even through the use of her ponies. She loved unconditional and she reached out to others, even when she needed to be reached out to.

Pixie Dust, belonged to our Facebook pal and HorseChannel member, Joanna Wicke. Joanna was loved by all who knew her. She was always positive and uplifting to others. Joanna welcomed Fancy and I to HorseChannel with unbelievable love and daily support. After a disturbing disappearance of Joanna, Sadie's owner, Joyce informed us that Joanna had passed away in her sleep at the tender age of 34 on September 23, 2011. It was only then that her many health conditions were revealed. Even though being confined to her bed for the past 9 years, Joanna never once revealed a single pain to us. What a remarkable YOUNG person to have as a friend.
It was in 1991 that Joanna & her mom purchased Pixie Dust to share with the Bloomfield Hills School Farm. For 7 years Joanna helped her mom create & teach Love-A-Pony, an afterschool & summer class for children.

Fancy Queen of Heart Month is blowing a heart vote in your direction this beautiful Monday morning.

We thank Joey, Ginger, and Angel Betsy for suggesting us doing the Black History blogs this past few weeks. I enjoyed this project, it was fun to share some of my most favorite horsey characters with you guys. I appreciate the comments and responses we received.

'C' & I trailered Trigger home Saturday morning. 'C' led Trigger to the trailer, however once Trigg saw that he was leaving he pitched a fit for King Kong. King Kong was so busy eating grass, he had no cares for Trigger's plight. Once loaded Trigger was just fine. He didn't like the idea of a bath, but it was fun cleaning him up. After his baths we take him walking and let him graze while he dries.
Sunday evening, Trigger and Fancy were turned out together for the first time. To my surprise, Fancy is not even mean to Trigger, not at all. She lets him walk anywhere he wants to, lets him eat her hay and she even eats with him. However, she does stay in between Trigger and I. I was patting Fancy on the side of her neck and Trigger wanted a pat to. He walked towards me and Fancy ran him off. He looked so pitiful. I think after a while she will allow him to come to me too, because Trigger is the very first animal in our yard that Fancy is not very mean to. I wonder if she is nice to him because she remembers him from last summer when we visited the farm, he visited us, and we went riding together.
I was very tired Sunday night. I did get my profile photos changed, then I was off to bed.

Willie Simms, born 1/16/1870, near Augusta, Georgia, U.S.—died 2/26/1927, Asbury, New Jersey), 1 of only 2 African American jockeys (the other is Isaac Burns Murphy) 2 have been elected 2 the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Simms began racing in 1887 & became the most successful rider 2 adopt the short stirrup since the antebellum slave & rider Abe Hawkins. The short stirrup lifts the rider over the horse’s withers, allowing the animal better balance. In 1895 Simms became the 1st American jockey 2 win in England, where sportswriters referred 2 him as a “monkey on a stick.” The short stirrup earned more esteem after the white American jockey Tod Sloan used it 2 win English races in 1897, & it came to be known as the “American seat.”
Simms won the Belmont Stakes in 1893 & 1894, the Kentucky Derby in 1896 & 1898, & the Preakness Stakes in 1898; he is the only African American 2 have won all of the Triple Crown classics. Simms was the leading American jockey (on the basis of number of wins) in 1893 & 1894. He retired in 1901 with 1 of the best lifetime winning percentages in the sport, 24.8.

Sorry I could not blog or vote Friday due to site problems. I thought I would have time to blog and vote Saturday, but when I returned from my horsey activities it was time for me to get ready for the next activity. We didn't get home till after 12am. I am here now.

Today I will tell you about our Fabulous Friday and next blog I will tell you about our Superb Saturday!

Friday January 13.
Friday was nothing but beautiful in NC, but it was very, very cold. I thought about taking the braids out of her mane. But my fingers were cold.

I took Fancy to the farrier Friday morning to be sure her feet were good for the winter. All was good with her little horsey feet.

We returned from the farrier, I wanted some exercise, so I took Fancy with me for a walk around the neighborhood. She was very calm. There were plenty of puddles for her to walk through and she did not try to avoid any one. We walked through the car wash a few times, went up and down a small wall on the side of a street. We went in between objects that were just laying around. We went to the park and Fancy still remembers how to walk up the steps at the park. People looked at us like crazy when we went up the steps. LOL! Then we walked in between the swings. Of course the swings were empty. LOL. At the many sites we would stop for grass, they have built habitat houses. There are 3 more in progress. They have some boards set on the ground to walk across the mudd. We walked across the boards. That was fun because one of them was like a teeter. Fancy didn't even care long as I was beside her. She had to think twice when a huge yellow city work truck came by. They were very nice and went by very slowly. I talked to her and she did stand with me until it passed. Then I told her what a good girl she was and we went on our way. Well it was a fine time we had, but my feet were freezing! Fancy would stand in the deeper puddles and splash water with her feet. I told her it was a might bit cold for that business. But I had to pull her out of them. At least she likes water. LOL. My silly girl.

Q: What happens if you eat the Christmas Decorations? A: you get tinsel-itus!

Fancy is finally back on HC with a vote for you. We also could not get back onto HC and then Wednesday I had to get the computer worked on because of a virus. All is well now with computing.

It is muddy here, I would like some dry ground under my feet:)
I wish Fancy could share in all the Christmas activities. My family thinks I am crazy, and I know that is not possible, LOL. My son and I watched Scrooge last night before. I love Christmas movies that I remember watching when I was a kid. I think my favorite has to be A Charlie Brown Christmas. Do you have a favorite Christmas movie?

Saturday I spent with Fancy & what a peaceful time it was. Saturday night we went skating, I guess that will be a part of our routine now, horse activities and then roller skating. Yet again, with these wheels strapped to my feet, I did not fall down, I even speed up a bit! That is a huge accomplishment for me!

Today was a very pleasant NC day. It was a little cool, but comfy. We spent Sunday evening with Trigger and my brother. My son and my niece had fun riding Trigger. He is a very sweet horse.
I see our horses as being very human like in nature. Every day we provide their needs and give them extra. Sometimes our horses don't listen to us and they do not care for what we want. I see how our Lord feels when we chose not to do as he instructs us. Even when we are not on our best behavior he still loves us and provides our needs. And we love our horses just the same. We love them the day they behave perfectly and the day when they frustrate us. How about that. Horses are just like us.

I meet Deb & Lady Jane (profile #189648 ), and company! What a wonderful group of friends to make! I was so excited I totally exhausted myself! It was awesome to see the beautiful horses & riders on the beach! They actually had the ACTHA ride along the shoreline!!! How awesome is that? We sat at the campsite enjoying stories and getting acquainted while my son helped Hollie tend to the horses. He enjoyed that most of all. Deb & Lady Jane's group left out for a night stroll along the beach as we were leaving for home. With each breath I longed to ride my Fancy Walk N That Way along the beach. I could not wait to get home to share this with Fancy.

Aimee & Fanny (profile #78967) invited us to enjoy a trail ride with them. This was Fancy's very first trail ride with a group. There were about 30-40 horses on the ride and 2 wagons. My brother & King Kong (profile #218728) accompanied us. We had a wonderful time. Fancy received several compliments on her behavior and some folks thought she was very pretty. They asked me who broke that horse for you? LOL!!!! Me, LOL! God!!! They said Fancy was very patient because she listened to me when I talk to her. I didn't think anything of it because to me that was normal. Fancy is my good girl most of the time and sometimes she is my bad girl. LOL! On one break, Aimee rode Fancy around. I had to tell Fancy to stop following me and listen to Aimee. Aimee enjoyed riding Fancy around in the field. I had planned not to run my little horse, BUT on the return trip, Aimee & Fanny and my brother & King Kong were in the wind. So we did get into a smooth canter. I had forgotten what a canter feels like. Oh! It was wonderful! I was very tired after the ride, but I didn't want it to end.
I hated leaving all the horsey activities but I had another date, one with my son. I promised him I would roller skate with him. I find it quite simple to stay upright upon 4 horse's feet, but if you put me on wheels I am a disaster. I took a skating lesson last week, so now I test my skills. My skills are not good, but for the very first time, I did not fall down once Saturday night. Feels good to stay off the floor. LOL.

Then Sunday was the perfect day to give thanks for all the wonderful friends I have made and all the blessings I share.
You guys are like family, I had so much fun, but I still missed you!!!
I will read all of my blogs within a few days. I look forward to reading about what you have been up to while I was away.

Fancy is leaving a Peaceful, loving, Sunday nights vote.

My Fancy is not spending every waking hour in Scotty's face now. She is eating again and wondering around as normal. She even stands all the way across the corral away from Scotty now.
Fancy and I had our first ride out with more than one horse today. What a ride it was. Fancy was very excited! She had to be first every moment and she left everyone behind with out any hesitation or care. King Kong, Trigger, and one of my brother's friends came to our house and we rode out for a while. Fancy stopped to urinate beside the road and the guys kept going. When she completed her business, she hopped up and just pitched a fit because she was not in front anymore. I had to get onto her for a bit. But, when were back in first place she was happy again. King Kong was on his best behavior today and my brother was soooo happy with him. All the horses were very good today. Except that one indecent when Fancy got upset for not being in the lead.
After Fancy and I returned, my son rode Scotty bareback and groomed him. Scotty seems to be very happy with my son handling him. My son is very happy too. I will post some new photos of Scotty and my son soon.

Leaving a vote to start the week!

Today's photo was taken September 28, 2011. Fancy is performing the only trick that I know I have taught her. I say stump and she will put her front feet onto that old tree stump.

How was your weekend? We enjoyed a nice cool Carolina weekend here. Fancy's hooves had grown out and were beginning to chip, so I decided to try my hand at rasping. I had the tools for over a year, but I was afraid to try. I looked up how to trim hooves on youtube and I did it! I did as little as possible since it was my first time. Made my back hurt, but no more chipping hooves for now. I was very glad they didn't need to be trimmed, only shaped up. I tell you if you ever try it, you will appreciate a farrier with a strong back, LOL. Have you ever tried to do a horses hooves? If you have, how did you come out on the job?

King Kong was very bad yesterday. King did not want to listen to my brother and my brother's friend wanted to help, so he got on King. While my brother's friend was riding King the horse reared and they fell back. He is ok, only suffered whiplash and soreness. We don't know what got into King. When he reared, there was no bit pressure at all. So he could have moved in any direction and he chose up :(

Fancy was very good. My son has ridden her. He has gotten bored riding in the corral, so we walk around the block and through the car wash. My son loves to ride her. He would like me to turn him lose. But I don't think Fancy or my son are ready for that. Because she is still very young and I know my son does not have experience in case something did frighten her. But so far she has been so wonderful on his rides out. I don't take that for granted and I pray that she remains steady.

Fancy and Frances are leaving a vote for your beautiful horse today.
Everything that I did with Fancy Wednesday, I dedicated to Joanna's memory.
When Fancy walked to meet me at the gate, I thought about Pixie and Brisco not being able to see their loved friend meet them at the gate again. As I picked out Fancy's hooves all I could think about was Pixie Dust and Brisco. Wondering if they understand the absence of the constant source of love in their life.
As I worked cleaning Fancy's corral, I thought of my granddad telling me once, "The empty wagon cries the loudest." I asked him, "Granddad, what in the world does that mean?" And he explained to me, if I listen, I will hear that a wagon bearing a full load makes very little to no sound. And the wagon that is empty creeks and squeaks loudly. He explained to me how people are like the wagons. Yesterday I thought of Joanna and I felt like the empty wagon. She never once complained, she was always positive, she loved reading of Fancy's adventures.
After reading her memorial posted on Cross Creek Horses page, I suddenly understood why she loved Dancing With the Stars so much.
This young lady had such an awesome spirit! And we never knew how awesome she really was. But Pixie Dust knew this as she visited Joanna during her illness. What a loving and special little horse. God Bless Pixie Dust, she is truly an Angel on Earth.

Fancy & King has left a Sunday vote for you!

As Paula says it,"Horses are healers" Now my brother may have his healer. Thanks for welcoming King to HC with your awesome comments and with HOTD! I was surely surprised I called my brother just now to tell him. He says "THANKS!" He got the news as he is riding King for the fist time right now as I type. I am jealous, they didn't call me!!!!!! You all are so sweet to us and we totally think you guys are the best, love you with a really big hug!

When my brother said he was ready for another horse, I was very excited and happy! The lady said King is least 16HH and he was vetted in May, which was good for us because he is up to date on vaccines and a new coggins.

Friday morning Fancy was stiff from the rabies vaccine she got Thursday. Good thing we had Bute left from the time she had a reaction to the vaccines she had months ago. I gave her the Bute, it helped. I did spend Friday walking her around to eat grass to loosen up her body. I walked her 1 1/2 hours several times Friday and Saturday. In her corral she stands in one spot when she is not feeling well. And then the stiffness and swelling get worse.
Saturday Fancy was not very stiff, we trailered to the farm where King is. We had them on leads and let them graze for a few hours.
When I got home, some old horseriding pals came by on horseback! One guy rides a Percheron cross and she is huge and beautiful! The other guy rides a well behaved paint. Fancy wanted to ride out with them. She was doing her little gaited thing all over that corral and pitching a fit. She looks at me like she is saying, "LET'S GO, RIGHT NOW!!!" Well maybe we will get some good long rides in soon!

I tried the bareback mounting again yesterday. Didn't work out. So I used the tractor tire again. Once mounted, Fancy listened very well. We walked around in the corral and even did some leg yields. It was so much fun!

Lovely Carolina day to leave a vote for friends.

We are on our way back into the high temps. I rode Fancy around the neighborhood a few times accompanied by my son on his bicycle. He hasn't ridden Fancy for quite a few days because I am adjusting her to a new bit. It is a mild curb I bought last week. My son is more comfy with the curb bit. He had never used a snaffle until the first time he rode Fancy solo. He had trouble with the snaffle bit and he didn't like it. Fancy is very good with both bits but somehow I like the snaffle a little bit better until she fully understands the curb. I was surprised at how well she was today though.
IF you have experience transitioning a horsey pal from a snaffle to a curb, please share with me. You never know. Something you know could really help. This is my first time making this adjustment. The last horse I trained, I tried starting in the snaffle and he wouldn't take it in his mouth after the first day. So I tired a curb and he took it just fine every time, and we took our time and worked it out all the way. So I never had to make the adjustment. Fancy just goes with anything if I take my time and let her do her thing. Hope she stays that way. LOL

Here is a vote from your dirty little Fancy friend. I want to bathe my sweet young horsey, but it keeps storming, sometimes hard, sometimes lightly. I am trying so hard to wait for her bath. I am wearing out brushing mudd off her. LOL! We hope the weather is being nice in your neighborhood.

I saw the new question for the week, 'if you could ride anywhere in the world where would it be?' This is a very interesting one! I would love to ride at historic places all over the world and the beach. I would love to ride everywhere I have to go, all the time! HEALTH ALERT !!! **
I just got an e.mail from ACTHA saying they were rescheduling the World Record Ride for the Mustangs because of an out break of EHV-1 in 6 Western states. I looked it up, the states affected so far are Arizona, Utah, California, Idaho, Washington and Colorado. The infected horses had all attended a National Cutting Horse Assoc. show in Utah in early May. Several horses have already been euthanized. Mine get vaccinated yearly but I just called my vet to see how effective the vaccine is. She said no vaccine is 100% effective and recommended a booster shot 6 mo. after the initial dose just to be on the safe side. Please help me spread the word on HC as there are many members from the west. Please be careful. lotsalov D&J

I had to handle quite a bit of yard work this weekend. I almost didn't get Fancy out cause I was sooo tired. Fancy became very upset that I didn't let her out. She became a little bratty and started kicking inside her trough and pushing against the panels with her chest. She would watch to see if I was looking at her. When she misbehaves, I sit in my chair until she is being a good girl and then I get her halter and let her out. She was very happy when she was out with me. I led her around the neighborhood and let her eat grass.
