Maybe you're right, maybe he does just need more work. In any case, I'll keep working with him, and keep you posted on his progress. I have plans to ride another one of my horses with my little sister, and then take Shadow out to my favorite climbing tree and have some lunch out there with him. My plan for the summer is to get all the horses (4)used to being tied for periods of time, and to get all of them but Shadow to be less dependant on the herd. I have some great exercises lined up for all of them, and then we have out usual sacking out lessons where I get them used to new things. I'll let you know how today goes! Have you been out on SkyHawk yet this year? How's he doing?

Well, it's not the weather that he wouldn't do well with. He gets scared easily by deer and other forest animals which are absolutely everywhere in the place that we're going.
He's an absoluetly wonderful horse, and one thing you never have to worry about is riding him out alone, because I ride him out alone almost every day. However, he is very fast, and me being only 16, I'm afraid of falling off up in the mountains and getting hurt, and no one knowing where I am. I'm working with him a LOT on the trail right now, and he is extremely wll mannered. Honestly, I don't know if I could actually get rid of him, unless he was going to a VERY good home. He's my best friend. He's also a great jumper, although still green at it, and he's as smart as a whip! He catches on to new cues very quickly, and listens very well to the bit. He would do very well with someone who wants to show, or just do pleasure riding. The problem is, where I'm going, I won't have an indoor arena like I do now. Shadow would be limited to being a trail horse, and that's not exactly where he fits in. I would hate to limit him in that way, and I just want him to be happy. I've also been working with him bareback and bridless, and he shows very well in the gymkhanas I've had him in. He always comes home with blue ribbons. His gait needs work, but he could definetely be shown to gait if someone put some time into it. He trots because I wanted him to. I was training him as a hunter, and so I didn't develop his gait. Now I've started working with it, and he's coming along. Thanks for spreading the word, and I'll keep you posted on his progress. I have so much more to say, I couldn't say enough good things about him, I just don't want him to end up in the wrong crowd. He's an amazing animal, and he could go into any discipline his rider wants. I've jumped him bareback and bridless as well, and he absolutely loves to run. The funny thing is, in the ring at the walk, he likes to plod along. When you ask him for speed, he has it though. He's turning 5 in April.... and his price is negotiable to the right home, but I can't go VERY low with it.

Shadow for sale
Hey! I just wanted to let you know that Shadow is up for sale. He's KMH registered out of Old Time Hershey Boy. He is going to be 5 next month, and I'm working with him on his gait. He does dressage, gymkhana, western *neck and direct reins*, and he jumps! He has had little kids on him all the time, and has been around dogs all his life. He's ridden almost every day, and is fantastic at lateral work. He does well in a snaffle bit, and is also being trained bareback and bridleless. I've jumped him bareback, and done almost verything under the sun with him. We're moving up to the mountains, and Shadow won't do well there, so I just need to find him a fantastic home. He would make a great show horse, and has a natural competitive edge. We left a vote for you, and could you please spread the word about Shadow. Thanks!!

Chance and I are getting ready for HOTM this may. It will be his birthday this may and he'll be turning 31! He is a very old man but is hopeing to get your votes! Check out this page! Just about everything is in his point of view so you really get to look into his life so I hope you find that really cool!

I have started and Old Horse Club. I'm trying to get people to understand old horses are still fun and loveable and to never sell them when they get old because we really dont know where they are going after!

No, didn't buy him from Sue Wells, I bought him from a family that breeds in Kentucky, but they sent their mare to get bred to Hershey Boy. I know, I absolutely love Shadow. I have to update his picture though! lol. He looks so much better when he's cleaned up. Maybe I'll take his picture today. I could use all the help I can get with gaiting! I heard that to get them started, you walk them, then ask for a slight speed up, and reward them when they go into gait, but when they start trotting, slow back to a walk and start over. Is that correct? You sound very knowledgable about gaits, I barely know anything about them. My other SSH/ TWH mare gaits naturally. With Shadow, he's young, and it's harder for him.

Hey this is Lys, thanks for coming to see Shadow and me. Woah there, your horse is something else. Right now, Shadow's been having some trouble with gaiting, but when he wants to, the guy can rack! I'm going to get him gaiting over the summer, and then we'll see where he goes. He's out of Old Time Hershey Boy, so he should have it in him to go all the way. We compete locally, and he does really well, he's super competitive. I'd love to come see your horse in the show ring this summer! Here's a vote from a fellow Rocky Mtn. lover!
