so its not a fracture in his elbow we have a very good vet he took xrays of the elbow to make sure she was ok but he also took xrays of his foot and he found an absess and some small lolly pops on his novicualer bone. the day after the vet checked him out the absess burst he is back to runing and playing with the other horses. he is doing great in round pen and this weekend he will be ready to ride againe. his novicualer will couse him some trouble in the futuer but for now he is sound and doing very well.

so we were 90 percent sure he had factuerd his elbow the vet took x rays but could not see for sure turns out he was kiked and it was just swolen and bruised the reall problem was in his hoof. i love my vet for finding this he felt his foot for heat and there was none so he ws going to take another xray of his shoulder we he said i was studying to become a vet my mentor told me even if there is an arrow in a horses shoulder u alway test the feet. sure enough as soon as he had the tester on his foot we found the problem so insead of rxaying the shoulder he xrayed the foot and found a very large abbsess in his hoof. so ya for no fracture he pasted his flex test and shoulder and elbow have heal up well no we are trying to get the absess to burst so that he can heal the one other problem he has is that in a few years we are going to have problems with his novicuale he has several small lolly pops iin there so poor boy is going to have a very ruogh life for the rest of his life

"Stubborn as a donkey" "ornery as a mule"- who hasn't heard these sayings? But donkeys aren't stubborn and mules aren't ornery, they're just being donkeys and mules.
Mules aren't just long-eared horses and they simply can't be handled as such. It behooves anyone who is working with them to learn what makes them tick.
The primary difference between donkeys, mules, and horses is that donkeys and mules are cautious to the extreme. A mule won't won't put life or limb in danger, so he thinks things over before he acts. When a mule pauses to contemplate before she loads in the trailer, she is wondering if it is safe to step inside. The wise owner hunkers down and lets her think about it, however long it takes. A kind word, a scratch on the withers or a pan with a little grain in it helps her to come to a positive conclusion. But woe to the person who beats her or winches her into the trailer-he's taught her it was a mule eating dangerous place and she was wise to resist. Hope your weekend is going well...Joey & Betsy

Mule fact for the day:) Hope Two Socks is doing better:)
What is a hinny?.... The hinny is also called a mule. However the hinny is the hybrid cross between a male horse (stallion) and a female donkey (jenny). The hinny is different from a mule in very subtle ways. For instance, the hinny is somewhat slower and a more meticulous mover than the mule. He inherits his way of moving from the jenny as does the mule that tends to be a little faster, more energetic and more agile like the mare. The hinny, because of of his meticulous way of moving is actually better in very steep, rocky terrain and especially in loose rock and will not tire as quickly as a mule. Gaited hinnies are preferable in this kind of terrain where there is little opportunity to gallop because they have a smooth, more ground covering gait. The hooves of a hinny tend to be more donkey-like, narrow, oval, and more upright where the hooves of a mule will look more horse-like, a little more round, but still oval. On both hinnies and mules the hooves should be trimmed more upright and the heels should be left longer than that of a horse.
The hinny will also eat more different kinds of shrubs and bushes to sustain himself where a mule will be more selective. both the mule and the hinny have more endurance than the horse and are more resistant to parasites and disease, require less food for good health, have tougher hooves than the horse, and have an incredible sence of self preservation often mistsken for stubbornness. The horse has a flight reflex when startled and the donkey has has a freeze reflex;the mule and the hinney can exhibit both depending on their personality and the situation. Have a great day... Navigating the Alps in snow and ice, Napoleon Bonaparte rode a mule borrowed from a Swiss peasant, not the rearing stallion he is pictured riding in artists' paintings. Napoleon did not go down in history as a gifted rider, so the mule was a better choice in terrain where sure-footedness and care were necessary. Napoleon won the canpaign to take control of Austria fron Italy when he crossed the Alps through the Great Saint Bernard Pass, using the element of surprise to defeat the Austrians in the Battle of Marengo. We can only wonder how things would have turned out had Napoleon not been riding a mule. Have a wonderful day...Joey & Betsy

Happy Tuesday Two Socks... Except for the long ears, mules look very simular to horses, but their muscle composition is different. Mules have smoother muscles than horses. Think of a football player's muscle build compared that of a ballerina. Both are very strong, but the mule has greater phsical strength for his size, and more endurance. A mule gets his athletic ability from the horse and it's intelligence from the donky. Donkeys and mules have a desire for self-preservation that might make them inclined to resist. Mules and donkeys actually have natural attraction to humans. When treated with patience, kindness and understanding, they learn to trust and obey. If they are treated with force and abuse, they are not likely to comply with your wishes. If only a mule could talk, most people would be surprised at how smart they really are. Have a wonderful day...Joey & Betsy My Daughter has a face book acct. I'll have her send a request. Her name is Brandy that is so cool!!

HC friends.. Many of you know me, and if you don't I hope we will become friends. My name is Joey. My Mule, Betsy is running for August HOTM. Since we have been on HC people have asked questions, and been curious about Betsy. I thought it would be fun to leave a daily blog about mules. My intent is to have fun, and possibly answer some questions about these amazing equines. Not to say mules are better or less than a horse. Personally I love all equine creatures:)I want to thank Frances & Fancy for some of the mule humor, Paula & PF, Marion & Indy, Barbara & Shawnie, for their support of Betsy's run. And last but not least, Shari, Daisy & Levy for being such good friends and supporting the Girls. I have some personal reasons for wanting this honor for Betsy. One, in short is that I was injured on a ride. While other horses and mules walked away as my friends were attending to me, Betsy stayed right there with me. I think she knew I was in trouble. So I hope you will have fun reading the blogs and who knows...We may have a Mule of the month in Auguust. Again, thanks to all my friends on HC. All votes will be greatly appreciated....Joey & Betsy

It has a parking area with rest room. Then you ride across the road to the trail head with a sign. The ride is a loop back to the trail head. Have a great day..I'm off work @ 5:30 and will leave directions:)
