hey Thanks for all the votes and comments! Sorry I haven't been on in such a long time! I was at horse camp for a week. It was amaaaaazing=) The whole week I rode a gaited Tennessee walker named Midnight. I rode him all week last year too:) He was said to be the most difficult horse which was why I got him. Not like I'm any great rider or anything but some people there had hardly ridden at all! He really wasn't a bad horse at all he was super sweet:) he just didn't like people jerking in his mouth. He was extremely responsive to leg though. The first day I was there I hurt my foot. and I still rode and everything but a few days later I had to go to the er cuz it was puffy purple and i couldn't move my toes. And they said it was a severe sprain but because of the severity it was worse than a break cuz it would take longer to heal :/ So the whole week I rode stirupless even though I'm supposed to be on crutches for 3 weeks and not ride for a month and a half! But I have our big fair I'm supposed to be showing in less than 2 weeks! ahhhhhhhhhhh! The trails at camp were incredible! The more advanced riders in our group went on a 2 hr trail ride! It was gorgous! There were huge fields to run through, big rivers to cross and huge hills deep back in the hills:) There was one hill especially that was huge! It was all muddy and much steeper than a 50 degree angle! ha, as you can imagine that was fun stirupless! Ya know how horses will try to get momentum and run up the hill? well we were supposed to keep them at a trot and when I got to the top I was behind the camp counselor. She started freaking out cuz she 4got I was stirupless! ha it was kinda funny. One day was like a carnival day where we just played a buncha games with our horses. Midnight and I won every single one we were in! Egg and spoon was the first one which was interesting without stirrups. We got to a canter and that was about it lol. Another game that we played was a bob for apple race. Four horses line up at one end of the arena and race down to the other, do an emergency dismount (which was interesting one legged) take your helmet off, bob for an apple, get back on your horse and race back down (without touching the apple) another emergency dismount then take your horses bridle off and whoevers horse finishes the apple first wins! We have a buncha rounds (10) cuz there were so many ppl who wanted to play and if you come in 1st or 2nd you get to go to the next round. Midnight and I started in the first round and won every time lol. When I got home from camp I found an unexpected $127 vet bill......just what I needed. Aparently he was playing outside, knocked a board down and the nails were sticking up and he has a big nasty puncture right on his throatlatch...=( well I gtg. Hope you guys are doing well! hey! Welcome to horsechannel! Any questions? Your horse is BEAUTIFUL! Wow, so pretty. Is she really yours? Do you do a lot of showing? 6 months ago, after four years of babysitting, I bought my first horse! He hadn't been abused just more of neglected. All he knew was if I kick him really hard he should run and if I pull back really hard on the reins he should stop. He's a 10 year old arabian gelding. He's got such a sweet gentle personality. And he loves to learn! For the first 3 months everything I did with him was groundwork. From free lunging in the round pen, to showmanship, to ground driving. And I'm so glad I did! Building a relationship though groundwork with him has taught us both so much! Before I got him he had never been fed a treat from you hand, never been bathed, never clipped never shown and he's done all of that now! A few weeks ago I took him to his first show! I ride english and was in an equitation over poles class, a showmanship class and a trail class. We came dead last in showmanship =) which was ok cause he doesn't know how to pivot. But my main goal was just to get him out in the ring and used to being at shows without freaking out. He did so much better than I expected! Even when I was riding him he was calm and focused on what I was asking him to do! And the weather was awful! Soooo windy and cold and rainy! It was even hailing for a while! In our trail class we were doing our extended trot to the mailbow and when we were up right next to it, it blew over! It just about hit him on the butt and he kinda freaked and we almost took out the judge! lol =) It was kinda funny. And I got it on tape! Sorry this blog is so long! But I have a quick training question and I was wondering if you had any tips. His canter is very fast unbalanced and uncollected. I can't get him to slow down without breaking. Someone told me to do lots of circles and that'ss slow him down. But I can't make a circle at that almost hand gallop. I took him in a smaller arena where he's forced to go in a somewhat small circle. He slows down and collects nicely but I'm afraid when I get back in the big arena he'll speed up again.
