Saddlebred from Nowhere, MO

About Me

Active within 873 Days

I am from Nowhere, MO and I've been a Club Horse member for 7 years, 9 months and 10 days

Nicknames: Alf, Alfredo, Alferino, and Alfie. By the way I have no idea when his real birthday was so I just guessed... (;

Age: 11 years old

Gender: Gelding

Breed: Saddlebred

Height: He's got a long neck and is a tall horse. If you measured him at his poll, he's at least 7 1/2 feet. At his withers, about 16hh.

Color: Bright red chestnut! I used to think plain 'brown' horses were a dull coat color but man, he puts any chestnut I ever met to shame!

Type of Riding: He hasn't been hauled to any playdays or shows yet. I'm planning on pole bending him b/c he likes to pole bend and he knows the pattern. We are also going on some trail rides this summer and someday a parade.

My Horse's Achievements: He was the first wild colt I ever trained and I'm very proud of him for putting up with me and teaching me so much about instinct and training young 'untouched' horses.

Also I've been giving lessons on him! I'm very proud to say that Alfred was a camp horse at SR horse camp 2010! He made a great team with 11 year old Kerri!

My Horse's Favorite Treat: He loves store boughten apple-flavored horse treats. But he'll eat any veggies or fruits (besides Tomatoes, I read somewhere they were toxic to horses). Grain and sugar are favorites too.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Scarf down food. He has choked before (scared me half to death)and the vet says now we have to soak all his food or put large rocks in it. Also Alfred likes to swim and pole bend.

Pet Peeves: He doesn't like things that change. If I'm riding him on a trail and their's a rock or stick that wasn't their the day before he will notice and usually snorts once or twice. Also if I leave something out next to the barn sometimes he gets silly and won't go near it.

My Horse's motto: "It's easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you're a winner, when you're number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you're not a winner."
Vince Lombardi

How We Met

Loooong story. In a mixed up line of events-I ended up with a few gaited wild Saddlebreds we rescued.
I wasn't much for gaited horses back then but you people who love stock horses, honestly we should all give gaited ones a chance too cause they can be just as good as stock breeds. Don't look down on them like they are french poodles or 'too flashy'. They were made that way and believe me I think Paints are about as flashy as they get. (: Don't get me wrong, I love Paints. Anyhow gaited horses are very versatile and can be used in western and make great trail horses so don't judge!

The dust storms happen every summer. A Semi flipped over on the interstate next to where I work Tuesday night after running into the back of an suv. Haven't heard about the injuries. Hope they were minor. I could see lights from the accident but nothing else.....Solar panels are great. All you have to do is rinse them off when they get dirty. Ours will be off for the next week, or so, because the relay switch broke during the storm. Seems the switch was too small.... Started the girls on their Psyllium treatments Thursday evening. Instead of twice a day, I give it to them once in the evening with a sweet feed mix. I only give Sadie about a third of the feed I give Star. Sadie doesn't need to gain weight... Way too hot to ride. Probably won't until October. Hope everyone is well and Shannon heals fast. Love and a vote.

Come visit me, SADIE *Thx For HOTD - 11/30/17!*.

Yesterday's storm was a bad one. One of the worst dust storms ever. It was said on the news that it was 50 miles wide. A lot of people lost power. Ours flickered. Solar panels didn't kick on today. Something may have blown loose....Picking up psyllium pellets today and starting the treatment tonight. Got to get more Senior feed for Star. She's slowly gaining weight. Love and a vote.
