she has won a blue ribbon in pole bending and a red one in barrel racing at a local rodeo in Spring 2011.

HOW I MET SWEET PEA:::::
I wanted a horse for very long, and BEGGED! Finally mom and dad agreed and we got a palomino on trial-but she reared up and flipped over on my friend who was riding her and so we got Sweet Pea, which my friend had on trial and didn't like. It was a pretty rocky start but we bought her, and now, almost a year later, i love her more than ANY OTHER ANIMAL IN THE WORLD!!!!!
Sweet Pea is actually Welsh/Quarter Horse cross, were not sure but that's what we think she is.

This has been a pretty busy week so far. Raining on and off most of the week. I am really happy to say that I am for sure moving my horse on Sunday...can't wait!!! I am so looking forward to all of the new trails and the big outdoor arena. Oh, and the trail/cross country course we are going to build. Here's a vote and have a great day!!! Well...the rodeo's over already :( But it was a fun day!! Sweet Pea won a red in the keyhole and a red in the barrel. I thot she'd do great in the poles, we won 2 blues in that in the past 2 years, but no, she did dreadful and when I took her again, she knocked one over :( It just wasn't her day!!
But I was pleased with the ribbons that I got :)

✞ Cliff finished putting up the barbless wire on turn out #3 yesterday. Will hang gate and add hot wire this morning. When I get off work today we will introduce the herd to it! Scaredy pants Deacon will not want to go to the back end of it because there is a tank and it is surrounded by lots of trees and bush! We haven’t fenced it yet. We will fence tank area next fall. Deacon (with his alpha self) knows coyote’s go down there sometimes so he is always Leary and high headed when I ride around that area. I will work with him on that. Have a wonderful day!

Tomorrow's the rodeo and I'm super excited!!!! Sweet Pea's not as shiny as I'd like her to be, so I'll have to really use some elbow-grease tomorrow morning. I practiced with her Thursday eve and she was really really great.
I can't wait to tell you all how it goes!!
Can you all please pray that it doesn't rain!!! We'll just have it another weekend, but it was rained out last Saturday, too :(

Had some Sadie time today. We both need it everyday. It's getting hot here, so I didn't ride. I put the halter on her and walked her off the property. She was a little nervous, so we took it slow, stopping when she needed to to look around and see that she was okay. Neighborhood dogs were barking at us. She walked a little fast on the way back to the house. Had to keep stopping her to slow her down. She loved it. Going to walk her more often to get her use going off the property. Going to work up to riding her. Last time I rode her off the property, she was nervous and wanted to fight me. She should trust me more now. Hugs and a vote. Went out to check on Sadie when I got home from work last night. She'd torn her fly mask off. It lasted 10 days. Hope to someday move away from the egg ranch. The flies are horrible. I had a long day...slept in cause my siblings are done w/ school for the year. Then we went to their school picnic, which lasted till 5:30. When we came home I turned Sweet Pea and Flicka out, Sweet Pea w/ grain. Lately she has been losing weight and not acting her usual self. I'm giving her a break this week, with lots of time out on the grass and grain with a supplement in it, and corn oil to make her coat shiny.
I had a great workout with Flicka last night. I did half an hour groundwork with her, and got to the next Clinton Anderson exercise in my book, Flexing to the Halter.
Then I rode her for half n hour. Wow, she forgot everything I taught her. I didn't ride her in a while, so it's all my fault. She forgot how to turn, it seems!! :) I cantered her just a little. Mostly working on the turning!!

I hope all of you moms had a beautiful Mother's Day. I had to work, but didn't mind. Being a mom and loving my sons and they loving me in return is what makes it so special. An emotional week this week. My oldest son, a Msgt in the Air Force, leaves the end of this week for 3 years in Germany. He and his oldest son celebrate their birthdays this week, too. I haven't been on HC in like forever!!!!!! The last two weeks have been pretty crazy...ok, really crazy! I have been doing some work for friends and trying to get everything set to move Skye to her new home. About two more weeks, and Skye will be like 5 minutes away...CAN"T WAIT!!!! We got a couple of inches of snow yesterday morning. It is almost gone now, but not very helpful to a growing grass. Sending lots of sunshine and a vote! ugh, we were all excited about the rodeo, which was today...but then, after we rode for an hour to get up there, it started raining. We waited up there about an hour and a half, then when the rain stopped, we headed home. I'm not sure when they're going to have it again..we were all SO dissapointed, but now my two friends can come, so thats one good thing!! :)
So that was my Saturday...hope yours was better!!

Sadie's a handful. She does need to be worked with a lot. Wish my time wasn't so limited. Looking forward to the day when I can have more time with her. She deserves it. FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS: “A mother understands what a child does not say” (unknown)
Are you finally enjoying spring? We went out of town last night to help a friend. It was soo late when we returned I had to call it a night. Fancy is ready for fun. She lets me know she wants an outing by neighing to me when I go outside for any reason. I tried to get some help taking the cart out, but no help just yet. I am giving my mom flowers for Mother's Day, perennials that will come back for her to enjoy. She seemed to be happy about that. I am tired of being still and I am ready to get creative. LOL.

Hi Andrea and herd
Before I tell you more about STERLY and our adventures, I need to tell you a bit about the young rider that suggested her to me. I met her at the boarding barn which was primarily WESTERN, Sonya was the only English rider there. Sometimes after one of my lessons I would just hang around and watch her ride. I wanted to ride like that, SONYA often came to the barn when no one else was around. So, I started planning my trips when I knew she would be there. I would tack up my leased horse, Fool Kat in my borrowed tack, I didn't have any of my own stuff yet. I would ride up beside her, her horse Doolie was a huge TB, and I'd say "Hi" she would look down at us and say "Hi" I'd say "are we posting on the correct diagonal?" and she would say "NO" and I'd say "can you help me?" she would, and off I'd go, then I'd ride back up to her and say "are we cantering on the correct lead?" and she would say "NO" she would help me get the lead and off we'd go....I believe that we became friends because I drove the poor girl crazy, I think she finally said "I might as well be friends because she apparently isn't going anywhere". I'm telling you this because this amazing friendship that started all those years ago in that little boarding barn continues today. SONYA was only 16 when we met, I have watched that young lady grow up, finish her education, become a fabulous teacher, get married, and she now has 3 beautiful children, her daughter Kaitlyn is just 4 and has started riding lessons. SONYA was and still is there for me every step of the way with STERLY and every horse that came after. TO BE CONTINUED. Sassy Miss Sadie's doing good. She's keeping her fly mask on, but has torn holes in it. I dumped her water trough out to clean it and found her old fly mask in it, again. While I filled the trough with fresh water, she blew bubbles in it. So silly. Heat's hitting triple degrees next week. Time to buy another misting system. FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS: “Always drink upstream from the herd.” (unknown)
Fancy & Trigger had their farrier trip this week. Great news, the farrier said Fancy's heel looks normal and you can't even tell it was wounded! We can begin riding when it is not so muddy in the corral. I am going to ride her for short periods of time before we ride out. I want to be sure both Fancy and I are ready when we ride out. And we can use this time to get ready for the horseshow this month. I want to try our first time at showmanship. ♥

♥ I had a really nice day off that included horsey time. I saddled Deacon and rode for a few hours there on the property around our home. When we got back I bathed him from ears to hoofs! I really did the works; he looked so beautiful after his bath. I have a question for my HC friends: how do you wash your horses face? Do you use shampoo, or just water? I was just wondering because I use a wet towel with no shampoo. I do let the hose run on their forelock and I use my fingers to loosen dirt then I wipe the rest of their face & muzzle with a wet towel. ARE YOU MAD AT US????
Sterl May was born and raised on a small but successful STANDARDBRED farm not far from my home. Standardbred racing is very big in this part of Ontario. She was quite good at the track, but at 4 years old she got a respiratory virus that ended her racing career. Roxanne, the lady that I eventually bought Sterl's from worked on that farm. Because racing is a business and not a hobby, Sterly had to go. Roxanne remembers the morning she was told to get Sterl May ready for the market truck. Roxanne had known and cared for her for 4 years and could not bear the thought of her going to market, so she bought her on a whim. That night after work she trailered her to a friends house and said "I bought a horse can I keep her here for now" Sterly spent the next 6 years there playing with her two new pasture pals. WOULD LOVE YOUR SUPPORT
Before I bought Sterl May(read her how we met story please),I used to lease a solid bred paint mare, at a local boarding stable not far from home. Her name was Fool Kat, I leased because as an adult getting back into riding, I wanted to be sure before I bought my own horse. The barn owners thought that I should buy a foal and raise it up. One of the other riders at the barn heard this and she said she knew of someone that had a horse for sale for not too much $$$ she mostly wanted a good home for this horse. The only thing was, she was a STANDARDBRED, that didn't mean anything to me. I went to meet her, and I will never forget the feeling I had when I walked into her paddock, she tuRned to look at me, THOSE EYES, THOSE BEAUTIFUL EYES, she still has those beautiful eyes, thanks for your support, we left a vote too. Saturday is the rodeo and I'm counting the days!! Sweet Pea has been doing good in practice, but I'm going to have some tough competition.
She has been losing weight. Right now she's not, but she's pretty thin. I'm starting her on grain, with Yoder's Horse Powder and Canola Oil to make her coat shiny. Hopefully that'll give her more energy for the rodeo.
I got mecate reins today from a friend. They are blue with black straps. I'll have to upload a pic soon. They are absolutely GORGOUES!! I can't wait to use them!! I can't until tomorrow.

I can't believe that today is Fancy's 5th birthday, I did not spend special time with her today because it is damp, cold, and windy outside. I did spend a few minutes with her after church. I also
spent time just watching Fancy and Trigger. There is plenty of hay to share, but Fancy was chasing Trigger away from the hay. He would pin his ears to look like he was about to make a deal of it, but he still just ran off.
I think my wrist are improving, but still not 100%. I am still having some weird feelings here and there. ✞ It hurts my heart to look at the HOTD today…that is no way to start a foal. Maybe old school does or use to but I am a total natural horseman believer. I hate that the baby has a bad start to its life-shame on that owner. I don’t know about the rest of you but I didn’t give congrats and I erased my blogged because it was not very nice what I wrote.

Big hi to all. Jessica came out Wednesday with her boyfriend, David. Sadie was bad. While Jessica picked her hooves, Sadie yanked her back hoof away. She bucked a couple of times, too, when Jessica rode her. She did okay with me. The strap on the saddle pinched a bruise on the inside of my left knee. Shouldn't have worn shorts. Found the missing fly mask, too. Jessica and I dumped Sadie's water trough to clean it out, and there it was. It had sunk to the bottom of the trough. I didn't think to check there. Congrats to Fancy our surprise HOTM for MAY . Angel HT was a wonderful APRIL HOTM so good luck & best wishes to their families (both equine, canine, feline,human, etc.) Finally got some sun this afternoon so planted some seeds for mountain flowers all around Angel PF’s run in barn. TOMORROW MAY is Alliance’s 3 rd birthday, please wish her a Happy birthday.
