Mini Jumps And yes they do! A miniature horse can jump proportionally a lot higher for his size than can the average large horse. Pippin is 31" tall and can jump 36" with no problem. I haven't worked with him enough to see what is his limit but I'm sure he can go higher. And his eyes light up when he knows we're going to jump. I say "jump" and his ears prick up and he looks around to see what we're going to jump. And generally it is indeed "we", because I usually go over the jump too. Since today's fact is indeed quite mini, I thought I'd share my latest of Prince's jumping experience. I've been working with him over small jumps and he enjoyed it but something must have just made him fed up with the whole thing because we got to the stage where he would refuse every time. On the rare occasion that we would go over, he would first stop and then he'd suddenly pop over leaving me in all but the right position which would cause me to come down in the saddle with a thud and therefore reinforce his dislike of jumping. So, I decided to start from scratch with ground poles and after barely making it over those we had a brainwave. He and Eddie hate to be separated so my sister trotted Eddie next to and past the jump (Eddie's not afraid of jumps at all. He barges right through them given the chance!) and Prince ran next to him and over the jump. It worked like a charm! It even works if Eddie just walks next to the jump. Prince hasn't refused once with this method and because there are no sudden stops leading to a coon jump* I can be in the right position and reinforce that jumping is fun! Today's video features a conversation between Eddie and Prince: An Argument Between Friends http://w ww.horse channel.co m/hor se-vide os/wat ch-vide o-51 DDB8742 2EF38 86C364 C1D2B 99D 5EC.aspx (Boy, HC video links are long! Don't forget to remove the spaces!) Wishing everyone a great weekend and leaving a vote. * Coon jumping is jumping from a standstill. P.S. Sorry I can't answer your personal questions. I want to remain anonymous. P.P.S. Thanks for stopping by Prince's page too. I'm glad you like his photos.Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

Not so mini teeth This seemed the logical place to proceed after mini bites. Miniature horses would naturally have small hooves, small appetites, right? Right. Small teeth? Not right. Strange as it may seem miniature horses' teeth are almost the same size as their larger counterparts. This may explain one of the reasons why minis often live longer. A horse's tooth is unlike most (if not all) other creatures. It is not attached to the bone and contrary to a common misconception it does not continuously grow. Rather it works itself out of the gum socket gradually over the course of the horse's lifetime. In most cases literally as without teeth they starve to death. When the horse eats it grinds its teeth wearing them down. The more wear and tear on the tooth the sooner it wears out. Since mini horse eat so much less but have almost the same size teeth they don't wear out as quickly! Today is featured Pippin's most popular YouTube video: Pippin's Love http://w ww.you tube.co m/wat ch?v= 8mG rwlzG vmg (Don't forget to remove the spaces.) Again thank you so much for your support. I'm sorry but tonight I have to do pure cut and paste. I have a long night ahead of me and I wanted to get my blogging done before that. Leaving a vote of appreciation and silent votes for your other pages if you have them.Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

Aw, what a cutie Babe is! Thanks, I'm glad you like Pippin's photos. Sleeping We all know that horses sleep standing up, right? Well, yes and no. Horses need very little sleep per day, anywhere from a few minutes to 2-3 hours. They don't conk out like us but sleep standing in short intervals. In order to acheive the deep sleep state of REM they have to lie down however they only need about 1 hour of REM sleep every few days. Makes me tired just thinking about it! The reason that horses have to sleep standing up is because if they lie down for too long their weight pushes down on their organs and can cause permanent and even fatal damage. Miniature horses have no such restriction. They are the neigh sayers of the equine world and can lie down as much as they want. They're not heavy enough for their organs to suffer. Pippin sunbathes in the late morning after his breakfast and I'm sure that's when he gets his REM sleep. He'll be dead to the world and I can creep up on him without him noticing a thing. If I go out to his pen in the dead of night (like right now) he'll always be awake and up to something. Today's featured video is not about sleeping! Some of you will have seen it before. I made it entirely with avatars. ..·:*¨¨*:·. *VOTE PIPPIN HOTM*.·:*¨¨*:·. . Hi, my name is Pippin and I am running for horse of the month in January. I am a cute but feisty miniature stallion and at 31" tall and 200lbs, I can literally pull my own weight! I love going out with my humans and my favourite activities (after eating, of course!) are driving and jumping. But… really I'm game for anything asked of me. Nothing much scares me and I LOVE new and exciting adventures. Do I have any faults? If you ask me, of course not! I'm perfect! If you ask mama? Well, she doesn't like me nipping her (oh, but it's so tempting!) and she wishes I were better with water. I'm not too keen on baths or puddles. Next month I will have been on the Horse Channel for 4 years and I'm the oldest active member. I would greatly appreciate your daily votes and support for me all next month. I plan to educate all my fans on the wonders of minis and I hope to highlight one of my movies each day. Thank you in advance and I hope to see you all next month so that I can reach my vote goal of 10,000 votes! Wishing you all the best for the new year and leaving a vote!Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

I once owned a Shetland pony named "Little Babe" so when I saw your pony, I had to vote for her. My Little Babe was a mare, too, and she was just the sweetest pony you could ever imagine, and SMART, too! I am visiting from the Bird Channel, so may not be back to respond. Love her, she's darling.
